London Kings Cross Station
King's Cross railway station, located in the London Borough of Camden, on the edge of Central London is one of the busiest stations in the United Kingdom and the southern terminus of the East Coast Main Line to North East England and Scotland.
Adjacent to King's Cross station is St Pancras International, the London terminus for Eurostar services to continental Europe. Beneath both main line stations is King's Cross St. Pancras tube station on the London Underground; combined they form one of the country's largest transport hubs.
When was Kings Cross Station opened?
The station was opened in Kings Cross on 14 October 1852 by the Great Northern Railway to accommodate the East Coast Main Line. It quickly grew to cater for suburban lines and was expanded several times in the 19th century.
As part of the Big Four grouping in 1923 it came under the ownership of the London and North Eastern Railway (The LNER) who introduced famous services such as the Flying Scotsman, and locomotives such as Mallard. Kings Cross later because a major terminus for the high-speed InterCity trains such as the Intercity 125 and 225 services, It will also accommodate the new Class 800 InterCity Express Train known on the East Coast Main Line as the Azuma.
As of 2018, long-distance trains from King's Cross are once again run by London North Eastern Railway to Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Central via York and Newcastle; other long-distance operators include Hull Trains and Grand Central. In addition, Great Northern runs suburban commuter trains in and around north London.
In the late 20th century, the area around the station became known for its seedy and downmarket character therefore a major redevelopment was undertaken in the 21st century, including restoration of many of the stations original features.
Kings Cross has many names.
King's Cross can be spelled both with and without an apostrophe. King's Cross can also be referred to as Kings X, Kings +, London KX, KX and has the station code is KGX.
Why is it called kings Cross
The station took its name from the King's Cross building, a monument to King George IV that stood in the area and was demolished in 1845. Construction was on the site of a smallpox hospital and it replaced a temporary terminus at Maiden Lane that had opened on 7 August 1850.
If it was not called Kings Cross I am sure the king would have been very cross.
More about the Station
The station originally had one arrival and one departure platform (today's platforms 1 and 8), and the rest of the space between was used for carriage sidings.
A significant bottleneck in the early years of operations was at the famous Gas Works tunnel underneath the Regent's Canal immediately to the north of the station, which was built with a single up and down track however the second and third Gas Works tunnels opened.

It's a great place for photography and people interested in architecture.
A Walk Through London King's Cross Railway Station
King's Cross railway station[4][5] is a major London railway terminus which opened in 1852 on the northern edge of central London.
King's Cross is the southern terminus of the East Coast Main Line, providing high speed inter-city services to Yorkshire, the North East and Scotland. Virgin Trains East Coast is the main inter-city operator with destinations including Leeds, Newcastle and Edinburgh. Other inter-city operators serving the station include Hull Trains and Grand Central.
King's Cross is also a terminus for Great Northern which provides commuter services to North London, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. Immediately to the west across Pancras Road is St Pancras International, the London terminus of Eurostar services to continental Europe. The two stations share King's Cross St. Pancras tube station on the London Underground network and taken together form one of Britain's biggest transport hubs. The station is 820 yards (750 m) north-east of Euston, the southern terminus for the West Coast Main Line.
Cambridge to King's Cross Station, London, Great Northern Line, England, UK
Train From Cambridge to King's Cross Station in London, Great Northern Line
Cambridge is a city in Cambridgeshire in southeastern England, a few miles north of London. It is best known as the home of the University of Cambridge, Britain's oldest and most prestigious university aside from Oxford University. Cambridge is a university town and many of its residents are students. The River Cam, a relatively small, but navigable river, flows through it.
There are several other towns in the world named Cambridge, most of them probably named after the original English town or its university. Wikipedia lists at least 45 other places named Cambridge in Australia, Barbados, Canada, Jamaica, Malta, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Cambridge, England (population 124,000) is a little smaller than the city of Cambridge in Ontario, Canada (pop. 130,000), and a little bigger than Cambridge, Massachusetts in the U.S. (pop. 105,000).
A network of passenger railway stretches across Great Britain and, from London, into France and continental Europe. Cambridge's railway station is located a few miles southeast of the city centre. It is within walking distance (about 20 or 30 minutes, I think). But you can also take one of several buses. The 1, 3, and 7 Cambridge city buses should all take you from the city centre to the railway station.
I got the train to King's Cross Station in the north part of Central London. Other trains from Cambridge to London will stop at Liverpool Street Station in the eastern part of Central London. I think the Great Northern Railway (GNR) goes from Cambridge to King's Cross, while the West Anglia Main Line goes from Cambridge to Liverpool Street. Both King's Cross and Liverpool Street stations are connected to the London Underground or London Tube, making it easy to go from the surface rail line to the London subway train system.
King's Cross Station is known as the location where part of the Harry Potter movie was filmed. The rail platform of the station was the setting where Harry Potter left home for his magic school (I could be getting the details wrong, I've never seen the movies or read the books).

Anne announces at Kings Cross station
Today’s video is somewhat out of the ordinary, and it shows Anne making posh-sounding announcements at Kings Cross station in central London.
Most train stations in the UK use automated passenger announcement systems and there are different voices in use at different parts of the railway network. However, Anne is quite pervasive as she seems to get gradually deployed everywhere around the network.
Enjoy!
Recorded: 21 October 2015.
