Costa Rican Rainforest Boat ride through Tortuguero National Park
Video of my boat ride down Tortuguero Canal in beautiful Costa Rica. During my boat ride I seen sloths, monkeys, bats, iguanas, caimans, one crocodile and a lot of birds. The canal runs through Tortuguero National Park which is on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Despite it's remote location it is the third most visited park in Costa Rica and is reached only by airplane or boat. The park is home to many animals including manatees, crocodiles, 4 species of turtles, lowland pacas, peccaries, Baird's tapirs, white tailed deers, armadillos, frogs, salamanders, peacocks, toucans, jaguars, basilisk (Jesus lizard), bats, caimans, sloths, four species of monkeys, iguanas and 375 species of birds including the mangrove swallow, kingfisher, ibis, blue herons, parrots, cranes, vultures and many other animals. The park has over 20 miles of coastline which provide sea turtles a protected place to lay their eggs. Also home to the park are more than 400 species of trees and about 2,200 species of plants. The parks diversity is due to the existence within the reserve of eleven different habitats including rainforest, mangrove forests, swamps, beaches and lagoons. Located in a tropical climate, it is very humid and receives up to 250 inches of rain a year and over 330 days of cloud cover per year.
