Mariel Waddell & Alexi Hunter - We Are Glassblowers - Kingston Glass
Owners of the Kingston Glass Studio and Gallery, Alexi and Mariel Hunter have established themselves as two of the country’s most talented contemporary glass artists. Graduates of the Hot Glass Forming program at Sheridan College, they have been working together since 2003.
Allowing the spontaneity of the glass to be the driving force behind their designs, Alexi and Mariel’s unique pieces take advantage of the optical qualities of glass. Their shared experiences of growing up in different locales- Kauai, Hawaii, and Cassiar Northern BC for Alexi, and Trinidad, Barbados and Costa Rica for Mariel; have greatly influenced their style. References to these places can be seen in the surface texture, shapes and colours of their work.
Continuously exploring the advantages of hot molten glass, Alexi and Mariel are dedicated to creating one-of-a-kind pieces that in their aesthetic and purpose will continue to hold meaning.

Into the Woods- Kingston Glass Studio & Gallery Special Exhibition
This video highlights the three artists who are featured in an upcoming exhibition at the Kingston Glass Studio and Gallery. Into the Woods explores the Canadian forest through the eyes of landscape artist Keith Cornell. He shares with us his passion for the countryside and invites the viewer to 'listen' to the silence and beauty of Northumberland County and Algonquin Park.
Gary Matthew's hand turned wooden bowls act as a complement to Keith's woodland scenes and earthy colour palette. Glass artist Mariel Waddell evokes the forest in winter, playing with the similarities between glass and ice.

Early Spring at Lemoine Point (Kingston, ON - 2015)
A variety of birds and mammals could once again be spotted at Lemoine Point Conservation Area in Kingston, Ontario. It was a warm, early May afternoon when this video was shot. A cool breeze was blowing off of Collins Bay. There was no shortage of chipmunks and squirrels in the forest. While many tree branches were budding, there were still some that were bare, making it easy to spot red-winged blackbirds. Flocks of seagulls and geese could be found, as well as the odd mallard.
