When we think of South Africa, the images that typically come to mind are incredible wildlife roaming the grassy plains or the sparkling city of Cape Town. But only 90 minutes drive up the coast is a holiday haven with a beautiful blue lagoon.
In this edition of Destinations, we're visiting Langebaan, South Africa.
In South Africa's Western Cape, there are kite spots all along the coast. However, few locations bring the warm water and all level friendly conditions of Langebaan. This dreamy kite Destination is complete with a relaxed small town vibe along the lagoon beachfront. Langebaan is the perfect blend of kite trip and beach holiday. If you're looking for a family friendly location where you can still get in some epic sessions, Langebaan is the place to go.

Kitesurfing Cape Town, South Africa - Wind | Water | Wild - - Ep. 04: Kite Beach Downwinder
When the wind and waves line up at Cape Town's Kite Beach, every kiteboarder in town piles into their cars in pursuit of the perfect downwinder. In this episode, the entire Liquid Force South Africa squad get together for a downwind super session.
The classic Cape Town downwinder starts at Dolphin Beach and ends at Doodles Beachfront. When that cloud starts dripping down Table Mountain, you know you've got the recipe for a wild ride. Mix 30+ knots with 3-4 foot waves, bake for an hour, and serve with an ice cold beer!
As we take you downwind along the beachfront, we're also taking you on a look back at the funniest and most epic moments of the season.
The end of a kite season is a bit like the end of the perfect session... it's bittersweet! But the next South Africa season is almost underway, and we can't wait!

Kitesurfing Cape Town, South Africa - Wind | Water | Wild - - Ep. 03: Langebaan
Wind Water Wild is a four part series highlighting kitesurfing in stunning South Africa. From the wild west coast to the southern tip of the continent, we dive into the remarkable yet formidable natural conditions in the Western Cape. Cape Town local Luke McGillewie takes you on an incredible journey in this video series produced by Madic Media. We're searching for the perfect wave where the Pacific and Atlantic ocean meet, experiencing close encounters with wildlife in the heathlands, sending insane airs at Kite Beach (home of the Red Bull King of the Air), and clinking glasses after a day well spent with the local kiteboarding community.
Kiteboarding in South Africa can get pretty crazy - and not always in the best ways! When the crowds and conditions at Blouberg's Kite Beach get to be too much, it's time for another escape. In this episode of Wind Water Wild, Luke and his crew head into the wild West Coast National Park to kite the blue lagoon of Langebaan.
We go to Langebaan to chill out, have some fun, and try new things. Not every session has to be a serious one. We always leave the water laughing!
The warm, clear water of Langebaan's lagoons make for ideal conditions for a kitesurfing escape with friends. Kicking back on the beach, goofing around in the water, and pushing each other to progress. Not to mention the incredible wildlife nearby. Driving to this spot always feels like a bit of a safari!
In Langebaan, you can ride all day long if you have the right gear. On this day, we spent the morning riding freestyle, the afternoon lull on the foil, and a sunset session hitting the waves. As always, the day ends with beers and a braai!
After an epic weekend in Langebaan, it's time to head back to Cape Town for a crazy downwinder with the crew... After all, that's what kiteboarding in South Africa is all about! Stay tuned for the last and final episode of Wind Water Wild.

There's a place way down in the Southern Hemisphere where the scenery will steal your heart and the wind will knock you off your feet. It sounds intense and it is... in all the best ways! In this edition of Destinations, we're checking out a kite spot that's close to my heart: Cape Town, South Africa.
Cape Town is the home of the Red Bull King of the Air, and a popular kiteboarding hotspot. In the high season, it seems like the entire kiteboarding community comes together. Kitesurfers come from all over the world to chase their Big Air dreams and to kite with the legends of the sport.
On your average January day at Kite Beach in Cape Town, having the likes of Jesse Richman, Aaron Hadlow, Kevin Langeree, and Ruben Lenten throwing huge megaloops over you would not be an unusual sight! Not to mention the up and coming riders that spend their season training in these extreme conditions...

Fun downwind on the SA Kite Camp in Cape Town
We have had allot of fun sessions lately with new and old friends. Here is a little clip from a downwind on our Wave kitesurfing Camp in Cape Town. There been allot of improving skills from the riders on the camp and many new kitesurfing friends.

If you are coming on a kite surfing holiday to Cape Town be sure to check out a few key spots:
1) Langebaan is an awesome kite location - 100KM up the coast from Cape Town this small village is on the edge of the West Coast National Park and has a 13km lagoon. The Main Beach and Shark Bay are the main locations with the annual Downwind Dash happening mid summer. Windtown Hotel and Spa is a great place to stay and has a kite shop.
2) Blouberg Kite Beach, Table View - check out the guys doing the big air. This is a surf beach and every year they hold the Red Bull King of the Air (KOTA) and those guys rock.
