Knox Presbyterian Church 25th Anniversary Celebration
Here's the movie that was made to celebrate Knox's 25th Anniversary. Hope you enjoy it!
Pre-Convocation Workshop
Full inclusion of women in the church – what were they thinking?
As we mark the 50th Anniversary of the decision in favour of full inclusion of women in the church, we’ll reflect on the church’s early conversations around the issue, asking: what were they thinking, how did the church address the issues and concerns raised, and how does this shape us as we move forward as a church and the things we struggle with today?
Participate in conversation together at tables and enjoy opportunity for reflection as we remember our shared history and share our stories.
The workshop will be led by The Reverend Linda Ashfield (B.A., M.Div.)

Canadian Society of Presbyterian History Conference (2017)
On the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation CSPH celebrates two PCC scholars whose teaching applied their understanding of the Reformation to the life and witness of the Canadian church.
Allan Farris taught church history at Knox College after pastoral ministry in Trail. British Columbia. Visits to Geneva engaged his students as he shared his fascination with John Calvin’s theology.
Stanford Reid taught at McGill and went on to found the history department at the nascent University of Guelph. As a church planter, he established a Presbyterian congregation in a Montreal suburb. He called his ministry bivocational. He took over Allan Farris’ classes following his untimely death in 1977. Reid’s chef d’oeuvre was a 1975 biography of John Knox which he titled The Trumpeter of God, a self-description.
In addition, papers will focus on an aspect of Presbyterian-Roman Catholic relations in the 1890’s and a fascinating paper on property rights of dissenters in 1925 lensed through the famous case of St. Luke’s Salt Springs. Pictou County, NS which went all the way to Privy Council.
Presenters
Stephen Farris son and father of Rev. Allan recently retired from the Vancouver School of Theology, having previously taught at Knox College, Toronto. He was moderator of the 140th General Assembly in Waterloo. Ontario.
John Cameron, born a Pictonian, was for 24 years minister of the Kirk of St. James in Charlottetown. He was 1991 Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.
Don MacLeod is Research Professor of Church History, Tyndale Seminary, Toronto. He wrote W. Stanford Reid, An Evangelical Calvinist in the Academy.
John Vaudry is minister of First Church, Pembroke, having served churches in Montreal and Wingham. Author several books on PCC QC clergy and sermons.

To celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, The Committee on History of The Presbyterian Church in Canada is holding a series of 5 one-day events starting in 2013 and continuing until 2017. Each event will create a conversation about what the five solas (“onlys” or “alones”), mottos of the Reformation, mean in the lives of Christians today. The five solas are:
- Sola Gratia: Grace Alone
- Sola Scriptura: Scripture Alone
- Sola Fide: Faith Alone
- Solus Christus: Christ Alone
- Soli Deo Gloria: For God's Glory Alone
To stimulate the conversation, each event will bring together academic understanding with living church practice of one of the solas. The presenters will be a mix of theological thinkers/teachers and persons doing ministry.
The five events, being held in different places in Canada, will be live streamed to include participants from anywhere who log into the event, and participants anywhere will be able to ask questions and make comments during the dialogue portions of the events.

Knox Presbyterian filled to overflowing
Knox Presbyterian Church in Waitara, Taranaki, is doing amazing things in its community, which has its share of negative statistics. But the church's facilities are hindering the growth of its ministries.
