Kosho-ji Temple - Kyoto - 興聖寺 - 4K Ultra HD
Kosho-ji Temple (Kōshōji) was originally built in 1233 and at a different location in Kyoto. It wasn’t until 1648 that it was moved to its current location in Uji, by Nagai Noamasa. Belonging to the Soto Zen branch of Japanese Buddhism, Kosho-ji is famous for its Heian-period statue of Kannon. The other well-known attraction is its gorgeous maple approach, known as Kotozaka, that turns into a magnificent mix or red and yellow leaves in autumn.

Mimuroto-ji - Kyoto - 三室戸寺 - 4K Ultra HD
Located not too far from Kosho-ji, and in the northern hills of Uji City, Mimuroto-ji (Mimurotoji), also known as the flower temple, was founded roughly 1,200 years ago. It features not only a gorgeous three-tiered pagoda, but also a nicely designed main hall, built in the early 1800s that houses an image of the thousand-armed Kannon Bodhisattva. Also on display there is a statue of an ox and a rabbit. Touching the stone ball in the ox's mouth is believed to lead to victories in your endeavors, while reaching your hands into the stone sphere in front of the rabbit, is supposed to grant your wish, but only if you manage to put on equilibrium the egg- shaped object found in the sphere.

Japanese Buddhist Temple 大泉寺 - Brushless Gimbal
The location is in Oyamada, not so far from Tokyo - a beautiful temple in a valley. That is my practice ground for my gimbal operation. I found it very hard to film in 4K due to Moare issues and because clear resolution picks up every small mis-operation.

Byōdō-in - Kyoto - 平等院 - 4K Ultra HD
Featured on every single 10-yen coin found across across Japan, Byodoin or Byōdō-in/Byōdōin is one of the most striking examples of Jodo, Buddhist Pure Land sect, architecture! Together with its small, yet beautiful garden, Byōdō-in represents the Pure Land Paradise and was very influential on later temple construction.
Unlike many other temples, Byōdō-in was in fact built as a countryside villa first, in 998, by the powerful politician Fujiwara no Michinaga. It was only turned into a temple in 1053 by Michinaga’s son, who also ordered the construction of its most striking feature, the Phoenix Hall.
While the Byōdō-in building has been destroyed many times over the centuries, the Phoenix Hall at the other end has never be damaged, and still retains its original design.

Fujita Memorial Garden - Aomori - 藤田記念庭園 - 4K Ultra HD
Located in the heart of Hirosaki city in Aomori (northern Japan), the Fujita Memorial Garden was built in 1919 by Fujita Kenichi who was the first chairman of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
While not unique in Japan, this garden features both a traditional Japanese house, now used as an art gallery, and a European style house which has been turned into a cake shop. The latter happened to be Mr. Fujita’s main residence. There are also a pair of Japanese gardens.
Despite it’s modest size, the Fujita Memorial Garden is a fantastic place all year long for a small stroll and some good cakes!

IACCP 2016 – The 23rd Congress of the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology
The 23rd Congress of the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP 2016) saw nearly 1,000 participants gather in Nagoya to present their research, catch up with old faces and network with many new, while hearing the latest from Keynote Speakers including Professor Ed Diener of University of Illinois, Professor Ying-Yi Hong of Chinese University of Hong Kong, Professor Peter J. Richerson of University of California Davis and Professor Junko Tanaka-Matsumi of Kwansei Gakuin University, as well as from Distinguished Invited Lecturer, Professor Laurence J. Kirmayer of McGill University. The theme of the congress “Honoring Traditions and Creating the Future”, inspired many varied responses from an international and diverse gathering. The theme resonated outside of presentation rooms, too, with delegates honouring Japan’s history and tradition during visits to the famous Koshoji Temple, where they experienced a tea ceremony and zazen meditation. At the welcome reception and congress dinner delegates forged new friendships and partnerships, shared research and discussed the future of their fields.
IAFOR was proud to support the organisation of this event.

From Kotohira to Uchiko is a nice trip for train lovers.

Daimon Gate and Danjo Garan by Night - 金剛峯寺大門 壇上伽藍 - Wakayama 4K Ultra HD
Koyasan Daimon Gate was originally built in the 11th century in the Tsuzuraori Valley and was moved a century later to its current location, marking the entrance to the city of Koyasan.
Danjo Garan is another important place of worship in Koyasan and where Kobo Daishi is also worshipped. Legend has it that Kobo Daishi himself when studying in China, threw his Sankosho (a pestle with three prongs at each end, usually made of gilt bronze) toward Japan and it landed in a pine tree. It was only when he came back and was looking for a place to erect the headquarters of his new religion that he came across his Sankosho still stuck in the branches of a pine tree. So he decided to start construction of his headquarters around the tree.
According to the temple administrators, Kobo Daishi worked on the construction of both the main hall and the Konpon Daito Pagoda, a 45m tall red tahoto style pagoda where a statue of Dainichi Nyorai (Cosmic Buddha, also known as Variocana) rests.
After Kobo Daishi ‘s death, his followers continued his work and erected several other buildings including Toto and Saito, two other pagodas, as well as Miedo, the founder’s hall, and Koya Myojin Shrine, which enshrines Mount Koya’s local kami (God).
