Japan is known for its anime, love of seafood, and its rich cultural history, which can be seen through its local festivals. Petty Officer Lorelei Vander Griend gives us a small peek into that history.

Brazilian man charged with killing Japanese old man to get rid of debt repayment
A Saitama man in his late 50s was found dead in a river in Kumagaya, Japan after being the victim of a stabbing. Police identified a 63-year-old Brazilian national as the murder suspect and arrested him last Thursday.
The pair were well acquainted with each other over the past few decades. The Brazilian national reportedly borrowed money from the victim several times, most recently borrowing about five hundred thousand yen (US$5,000) in October of last year.
According to the victim's wife, he told her on December 30 that he was going to pay his friend a visit.
The Brazilian is facing charges for stabbing the victim in the head, and leaving him bleed to death in the Arakawa River. The police believe he wanted to be free from his debts as the motives behind the murder.
Police discovered the victim's body and his mobile phone. They were able to identify the suspect through analyzing the call log on the mobile.The suspect is currently undergoing intense interrogation by investigators about the motive and accident. While he admits that he met the victim before the incident, he is denying any involvement in the murder.

This time I am taking you guys on a little trip to the wonderful mall that is located in Saitima, Japan called Cocoon.
This mall is very unique in the essence that it has 3 different separate building (cocoon 1, cocoon 2, & cocoon 3).
We pretty much spent the whole day there discovering this mall.

Why I Love Japan
Recently the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea held a contest asking contestants to post on YouTube videos with the theme or title Why I Love Korea. The contest deadline has passed.
Related information:
This video is my entry in a non-contest Why I Love Japan. Hopefully others will post similar videos and/or leave comments.
The points mentioned in this video are but a very small example on why I love Japan due to time constraints our desire to watch abbreviated videos.
1 -- Taiji, Japan has been harassed by Sea Shepherd's Cove Guardians for months. With this in mind I am sitting at the waterfront when an elderly couple sat next to me and offered me an orange. I politely declined and they proceeded to eat it. It was meant for them, yet they offered it to me first. Remember now this after being harassed by Seas Shepherd foreigners.
2 -- Dotonbori, Osaka, Japan: The Dotonbori area of Osaka is considered the culinary center of Japan. In this area there is a pedestrian bridge spanning the Dotonbori Canal. Saturday evening the bridge and surrounding streets we packed with tons of people. There was no running, not screaming, no loud yelling. Also missing from this enormous crowd was any visible sign of law enforcement.
3 -- At our conference in Osaka a Japanese flag and American flag were positioned on the wall. A Japanese member of the staff ironed the American flag first, then asked to iron the Japanese flag. Illustrating they are gracious host caring for their visitors first.
4 -- I observed a gentleman who needed to elevate himself by standing on a chair in a public venue. He removed his shoes and stood on the chair. Shoes removed in consideration of a person who will sit on the chair later in the day.
5 -- We were delayed in traffic jam for about forty-five minutes. No one complained, questioned or bemoaned about having to wait. Once traffic cleared, once again no one questioned the reason for the delay. Can you see this being repeated on 5th and 42nd in Manhattan?
6 -- At a hotel in Kumagaya, Japan I left my computer out on the table all day long. I was gone from before breakfast to about mid-night. During which time the hotel staff entered the room at least twice, once to make the bed, and second time to deliver my suit that was dry-cleaned. The computer was not touched.
7 -- Clothing hangers in their hotels are normal with the round hook on top to hang over a horizontal pole. While in the USA hangers do not have that hook to deter theft.

I know I've been MIA for almost a week now but I am back with another vlog. I had a hard time filming because I am feeling a bit awkward again in front a camera. This time I decided to film a chatty Get ready with me and vlogged our date night. Mauro and I were able to go out without Eli. 川越線の南古谷駅、指扇駅の近傍で冬季に撮影された9600型蒸気機関車の活躍です。Operations of 9600 type steam locomotives in winter season were recorded at nearby MInami-Furuya and Sashioghi station on Kawagoe line, JNR, Saitama Pref., Japan.
この８ミリ映画は国鉄に勤務していた熱心な鉄道マニアが記録した物です。This 8mm cinema film was recorded by enthusiast for railways, who worked for JNR. 関係者以外では撮影出来ない貴重映像が満載です。it is full of rare footage that nobody can record without insider person.

Isang lalaking galing sa Saitama na nasa kanyang 50s ang natagpuang patay sa isang ilog sa Kumagaya -- biktima ng isang pananaksak. Noong Huwebes, inaresto ng pulis ang isang 63-year-old na Brazilian na lalaki.
Matagal nang magkakilala ang suspect at biktima. Ang Brazilian ay ilang beses nang humiram diumano ng pera mula sa biktima -- noong Oktubre ay humiram siya ng 500,000 yen, o 5,000 USD.
Ayon sa asawa ng biktima, sinabi sa kanya ng biktima noong December 30 na dadalawin daw niya ang kanyang kaibigan.
Nakasuhan ang Brazilian ng pagsaksak sa biktima sa ulo, at iniwan itong nagdurugo sa Arakawa River. Naniniwala ang pulis na pumatay ang suspect dahil hindi niya mabayaran ang kanyang utang sa biktima.
