Completing The Circle - L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site (Parks Canada)
One of the most significant events in human migration history occurred by accident when the Vikings took a wrong turn and landed on the northern tip of Newfoundland.
In Completing the Circle we used an engaging host to debunk the many myths associated with Vikings and tell the epic journey of how Viking explorers came to L'Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland on a quest for resources. Reenacting the Vikings' dramatic encounter with local First Nations inhabitants, viewers are treated to a significant event in history—the first full-circle reunion of two different migrating branches of humans who had both left Africa 100,000 years ago! Reenactments, and CGI, were also used to tell another dramatic journey filled with suspense; that of the search for the Viking village and its ensuing archeological dig.

L'anse Aux Meadows - Newfoundland
Long before Christopher Columbus discovered the New World, the Vikings had crossed the Atlantic and beaten him to it. The proof can be found among the timber framed turf buildings excavated on the tip of the Great Northern Peninsula in Newfoundland. Closely resembling Norse dwellings, the site is the first known evidence of European influence in the Americas. Visitors learn about the Viking lifestyle and archeological discovery through various exhibits, and can explore the surrounding area with a number of hiking trails.

Secret History of the Vikings that discovered America
The story of how the Vikings discovered North America is one of the most fascinating accounts in the history of exploration. With on-location filming at the ruins of the Viking settlement at L’Anse-aux-Meadows in Northern Newfoundland, the remains of ships unearthed in Norway, and with several fully reconstructed Viking ships, we will see how these voyagers traveled the globe. And we’ll present the growing, but still inconclusive, evidence that an explorer dispatched by King Ferdinand of Spain may have used the Vikings’ navigational information to reach North America.
In 1965, a controversial map of Vinland and North America emerged. It has confidently been dated to 1440, 52 years before Columbus sailed to the New World. It is believed that Columbus traveled to Iceland in the 1470's. Did he have a copy of the map? Did the map originate with the Vikings as a record of their travels? Or was it created by someone else entirely?
Vikings (Danish: Vikingerne; Faroese: Víkingur; Icelandic: Víkingar; Norwegian: Vikingene; Nynorsk: Vikingar; Swedish: Vikingar), from Old Norse víkingr, were Germanic Norse seafarers, speaking the Old Norse language, who raided and traded from their Scandinavian homelands across wide areas of northern and central Europe, as well as European Russia, during the late 8th to late 11th centuries.
