Cerro Tronador in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina
Imposing glaciers
It is located in the southern part of the Andes mountain range, on the border between Argentina and Chile. It separates two national parks: Nahuel Huapi, in the provinces of Río Negro and Neuquén, Argentina; and Vicente Pérez Rosales in the province of Llanquihue, Chile.
The name of the hill is due to the noise that is produced by frequent icefalls in glaciers, similar to thunder. Its height of 3554 meters above sea level and stands out among the mountainous massifs of the Nahuel Huapi national park. The Tronador has a total of seven glaciers which are currently in remission due to global warming.
The Tronador Hill is the highest in the surroundings of Bariloche. After leaving the city center, the mythical National Route 40 takes you south, crossing the coasts of the Gutiérrez and Mascardi Lakes until it joins with the Provincial Route 82.
On the way you will find viewpoints to enjoy the stunning views offered by the Bonete and Cresta de Gallo hills, or you can get close to one of the dark sand beaches of Lake Mascardi. Passing Villa Mascardi, turn right and you can walk a path surrounded by native forests. It is an area of exceptional beauty, visited every year by lovers of the mountain, climbing and fishing, as there are optimal areas such as Lake Los Moscos and the Manso River, which leads to Lake Hess.
When you reach the Manso River (a river that rises on the top of the Tronador and that changes color along its route), you can stop at the Los Rapidos bridge to watch trout swimming in the crystal clear water. If luck accompanies, it is also possible to see some kingfisher.
The route continues through a winding road, ascending until reaching the point of maximum height of the entire route. From there you can see the valley of the upper Manso river in almost all its extension, with its meandering course and greenish waters. Following up to Pampa Linda, you will find a beautiful place where accommodation and gastronomy services are located. From here, you will make your way to the base of the hill, where there is a warm confectionery and from there you can see other Tronador glaciers.
The ascent continues until you reach the last viewpoint of the route, the Black Snowdrift, a glacier that descends from the Tronador and that stands out for its dark color. On the way back you can take the detour of the road that reaches the Los Alerces waterfall to contemplate this 30 meter high waterfall.

=======
Nahuel Huapi National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi) is the oldest national park in Argentina, established in 1934. It surrounds Nahuel Huapi Lake in the foothills of the Patagonian Andes. The largest of the national parks in the region, it has an area of 7,050 km2 (2,720 sq mi), or nearly 2 million acres. Its landscapes represent the north Patagonian Andean Zone consisting of three types, namely, the Altoandino (with perpetual snow above an altitude of 1,600 metres (5,200 ft)), the Andino-Patagónico (in the lower reaches of the hills) and the Patagonian steppe. It also represents small parts of the Valdivian Rainforest.
The park and the reserve lie at an altitude of 720–3,574 metres (2,362–11,726 ft), and are designated under IUCN management categories II (National Park) and IV (Management Reserve). The park is completely protected while the reserve is partially protected. The national park is dominated by the high mountain chain of the Andes, many lakes, rapid rivers, waterfalls, snow-clad peaks, glaciers and extensive forests. It is bordered by Chile on its western side.
