Things to See in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii
=================================
1 - Lahaina Historic Trail
What: Self-guided tour of 62 historic Lahaina sites
Where: Spread throughout 55 acres of Lahaina
When: The best time to visit is Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. This historic trail takes about an hour
Lahaina is a town of major historical significance. Once the first capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii, a busy whaling port and a plantation settlement, you can follow the Lahaina Historic Trail (Ala Moolelo O Lahaina) to walk in the footsteps of Lahaina’s past.
This self-guided tour takes you to significant sites throughout 55 acres of Lahaina, many of which have been designated National Historic Landmarks. Members of the Lahaina Restoration Foundation have worked for three decades to create the trail and preserve many of the buildings along it. They’ve also labeled dozens of historic sites with informative bronze plaques, each providing explanations about an important point of interest from Lahaina's past. Look for them around and about Front Street.
You’ll see a fascinating blend of influences covering Hawaiian history, the whaling era, the missionaries and immigrant plantation life. The Baldwin Home was the two-story house of Protestant missionaries in the mid-1830s. Hale Paahao, the “stuck-in-irons house,” was a jail for rowdy sailors in the 1850s. Structures like the Wo Hing Temple and the Lahaina Jodo Mission highlight the influences of Chinese and Japanese immigrants in Maui.
To get a historical walking guide highlighting all 62 historic sites, visit the Lahaina Visitor Center in the Old Lahaina Courthouse located between the Banyan Tree and Lahaina Harbor.
2 - Lahaina Art Galleries Maui
Lahaina has gained a reputation as a renowned art market with dozens of art galleries. Begin your art walk at the Old Jail Gallery run by the non-profit Lahaina Arts Society, home to 185 member artists. Village Galleries is Maui’s oldest gallery showcasing acclaimed local artists. For fun, check out the kinetic sculptures and pop art at the Martin Lawrence Galleries.
To experience all that Lahaina’s art scene has to offer, visit Art Night each Friday between 7pm and 10pm. Join the festivities along and around Front Street as art galleries open their doors, inviting the public to chat with artists, view their works, listen to music and celebrate the arts.
You can also discover other types of unique art in Lahaina, including ceramics, handcrafted woodwork and jewelry. This historic whaling town is also one of the world’s largest markets for scrimshaw, the whalers’ art of carving on ivory. For more unique finds, treasure hunt in Lahaina Printsellers for a collection of maps, prints and engravings from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. You’re bound to uncover the perfect Maui memento in Lahaina’s art galleries.
3 - The Banyan Tree
What: One of the country's largest banyan trees
Where: In front of the Lahaina Courthouse, adjacent to Lahaina Harbor
Cool down in the shade under one of the largest banyan trees in the United States. Imported from India and planted in front of the Lahaina Courthouse and Lahaina Harbor on 1873, this sprawling tree along Front Street is the size of an entire city block and stands more than 60-feet high. If you need to cool down a bit, you can walk for two-thirds of an acre under the shadow of its sweeping branches. Many events and art exhibits are held beneath this popular gathering place. At Art in the Park, which takes place every second and fourth weekend of the month, browse for affordable paintings, limited edition prints and a wealth of crafts under the dangling vines and twelve major trunks of this Lahaina landmark.
4 - Lahaina Jodo Mission
What: A Japanese Buddhist temple in Lahaina
Where: Located 45 minutes from Kahului Airport by car in Lahaina just off Front Street at 12 Ala Moana Street
Head west from Lahaina's Front Street toward Baby Beach and you'll discover the Lahaina Jodo Mission. Established in a private house in 1912 to propagate Buddhism in Lahaina, the temple moved to its present location in 1931. This serene destination looks and feels more like Japan than Maui and features one of the largest statues of the Buddha outside of Asia.
The mission is a replica of an authentic Japanese Buddhist temple. Explore these peaceful grounds and you'll discover a towering pagoda and an enormous bronze Buddha statue, 12 feet high and roughly 3 ½ tons. The statue was installed in 1968 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the arrival of Japanese immigrants in Hawaii. The grounds and buildings of the mission are open to the public and voluntary contributions are accepted.
Maui Camping Guide - Lahaina Jodo Mission
A trip to the West Maui harbor town of Lahaina is not complete without a visit to the Lahaina Jodo Mission. The intricate woodwork of the temple buildings is amazing, and the colors of the worship houses are vibrant. The centerpiece of the Mission is the giant Buddha statue, resting firmly and peacefully on a concrete and rock altar. The Buddha's looks toward the sunset... and west toward Asia.
There is no cost to visit the Mission grounds, but please be a respectful visitor in and around the sacred buildings and monuments. There is a donation container near the front gate to help maintain the Mission and support it's good works.
While there are no camping opportunities here, there are campgrounds nearby at Olowalu and Papalaua. Check availability before you travel.

Nakalele Blowhole - Water shoots 100 feet in the air, Maui, Hawaii USA || Telugu Vlogs from USA
Nakalele Point is a land mass on the eastern edge of the northern tip of the island of Maui in the state of Hawaiʻi. In Hawaiian, Nakalele or Nakalele means the leaning. The Point is known for its blowhole and has become notable for its dangerous conditions when waves crash in. The point and blowhole are located just east of Poelua Bay.
Blowhole
Nakalele Point is famous for a blowhole which produces powerful geyser-like water spouts with the waves and tides. Water spewed from the blowhole can rise as high as 100 feet in the air. Visitors to the site should never stand between the blowhole and the ocean, and visitors should never turn their backs on the ocean as rogue waves could cause injury at anytime. Only one person is confirmed to have been sucked into the blowhole and died.
The banyan tree in Lahaina, in Maui, Hawaii, United States, was planted on April 24, 1873, in Lahaina to mark the 50th anniversary of the arrival of first American Protestant mission. The banyan tree (Ficus benghalensis) known in Hawaiian as paniana, located in the Courthouse Square, which was renamed Banyan Tree Park covering 1.94 acres, is not only the largest in the state but also in the United States. The tree was a gift from missionaries in India. A mere 8 feet (2.4 m) when planted, it has grown to a height of about 60 feet (18 m) and has rooted into 16 major trunks, apart from the main trunk, with the canopy spread over an area of about 0.66 acres (0.27 ha).

Lahaina Banyan Court Park
Lahaina Banyan Court Park is a public park located at the corner of Front Street and Canal Street in the town of Lahaina, Hawaii, which was the capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii from 1820 to 1845. The 1.94 acres (0.79 ha) park, also known as Lahaina Courthouse Square and commonly called Banyan Tree Park, contains multiple heritage sites on the Lahaina Historic Trail, and a self-guided walking tour through the Lahaina Historic Districts.[1]
The park occupies the site of the Old Lahaina Fort, originally built in 1831. Hoapili, the Royal Governor of Maui, built the fort to protect the town from riotous sailors when Lahaina was used as an anchorage for the North Pacific whaling fleet.[2] After the fort was demolished in 1854, a courthouse was built on the site. A portion of the old Lahaina Fort was reconstructed in 1964. The old Lahaina Courthouse was recognized as a contributing property of the Lahaina Historic District in 1965, and is currently used by the Lahaina Arts Council and the Lahaina Historic Society.
Sheriff William Owen Smith planted an Indian banyan tree in the courtyard square in 1873 to memorialize the 50th anniversary of the first American Protestant mission in Lahaina. The banyan tree has become the largest banyan tree in Hawaii, and one of the largest banyan trees in the United States. Its extensive trunk and aerial root system now covers 0.66 acres (0.27 ha). The park is managed by the County of Maui and the Lahaina Restoration Foundation.

Maui Camping Guide - Waianapanapa Cave
Found at the end of a jungle trail located in Waianapanpa State Park, the fresh water cave is a cool respite from the tropical heat. Steeped in legend and lore, it is said to be the place of refuge where Queen Popualaea hid from her jealous husband, King Kaakea. Betrayed by her reflection in the glistening waters, the King found her and murdered her in his rage -- turning the waters red with her blood. Each spring red shrimp appear in the waters of the cave to remind the King of the wrong he had done.
This is one of my favorite places on Maui. When camping at Waianapanapa State Park, make sure you make the morning or evening visit to the cave after the mid-day crowds have left the area. It isn't often that you can find such a magical place -- floating in the cool water, with palms and jungle outside, listen for the whispers of the wronged Queen as the wind moves through the cave.
If you choose to jump into the water, be careful! There is a low ledge opposite the jumping area, and the water is only four to five feet deep.
