Bagnall 2996 'Victor' Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway 2017
Seeing as we've been rather busy lately (you'll see why soon enough) we haven't had the time to film any recent mainline excursions, so here is a little video of Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railways' 0-6-0ST 'Victor'
Possibly one of the most advanced industrial steam locomotives built in the UK by W. G. Bagnall & Co Ltd, works number 2996 was one of three locomotives ordered by the Steel Company of Wales (SCOW) for their Abbey, Margam and Port Talbot works in 1950.
At SCOW, the locomotive was given running number 403 and, with its two sister engines, performed above and beyond the requirements of its original design. However, in 1957 all three were replaced by diesels and 2996 was sold, with sister 2994, to the Austin Motor Company Ltd. (later to become British Leyland) for use at their Longbridge plant in Birmingham.
At Austin’s, the locomotives were named “Victor” and “Vulcan”, and continued in service until late 1973 when they were sold on to West Somerset Railway and used to kick-start the newly preserved railway’s steam services, with “Victor” hauling the “Directors Special” first train in December 1975, then in 1988 ‘2996’ went to the Strathspey Railway for a time then on to the Great Central Railway (Nottingham section) at Ruddington.
In 2009, “Victor” was privately purchased for use on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway and moved to their locomotive works Haverthwaite, where it currently undergoing a programme of extensive refurbishment and repair. Her first public runs at the L&HR being in 2015, and filmed by ourselves here:

Hi and welcome to Aidan's Railways.
1st: My channel is aimed at adult model makers and collectors of railway related models.
2nd: My channel also covers visits to railways around the U.K. in various gauges.
3rd: My channel also covers events that myself and my brother attend in relation to his classic car collection.
Aidan's railways is a channel where i shall bring you reviews of railway related models, the construction of various layouts in different gauges (OO, OO9, O & G).
For years i have collected models, locomotives, rolling stock and scenery with the plan to build Aidan's Railways.
I have used the term Railways because there will ultimately be more than one railway and in various gauges.
I have a real passion for railways and model making.
So follow me as i go through reviewing my stock, New Purchase's, Constructing the Railways and getting Inspiration from our Days out and visiting railways and related locations.

Fairburn 42073 was the motive power at The Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway so with no steam on the mainline at the moment I ventured down for a look . 42073 is seen at various points along the line on a warm spring day . Thanks to Shep Wolley for the call that told me she was in steam.

The train with it's coaches arrives in Haverthwaite, Cumbria, Tourists get off, the steam coal-burning locomotive Repulse is detached and moves to the other side, coupled, passengers enter, the doors are closed, and the train departs for Lakeside via Newby Bridge. It arrives 18 minutes later in lakeside, where steamers arrive to take tourists East across Lake Windermere to Bowess-on-Widermere. I ran out of memory when filming the arrival at the end. To load it all up on YouTube I had to reduce the resolution.

LMS 7120 (AD601) on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway 2017
Diesel Loco haulage is a rare sight on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway, but we were lucky enough to catch LMS 7120 (AD601) BR class 11 Diesel Shunter on a rare passenger turn
Built as a standard diesel shunter for the LMS, the design later went on to become the basis on British Rail's hugely successful BR 08 shunter.

Lakeside & Haverthwaite steam railway; 2013-03-29
A compilation of clips from the Lakeside & Haverthwaite railway on Friday the 29th March 2013. Starts off with the day's service loco shunting a couple of other locos from the carpark tramway back into the siding within the railway boundary.
Then the loco coupled up to its train, before the crew went off to sprinkle sand on the line ahead - a promising sign for an exciting getaway! And sure enough, the little loco was working hard as it set off from Haverthwaite - pumping out a lot of soot as it did so. Once up the hill, it could gently coast along the lake, and into Lakeside station.
Filmed on a Panasonic HDC-SD90.
