Chichen Itza Tours - Everything You Need To Know
This is an inside look at a Group Sightseeing tour of Chichen Itza. From everything you can expect, prices, pro's and con's of visiting Chichen Itza while on a private tour.
It was the middle of September and while we were in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico we decided to go to Chichen Itza. One of the new 7 Wonders of The World. We started shopping around and while there is a ADO that does a daily trip from Playa Del Carmen and back we decided on booking on a group tour from the travel agency Solatino Tours and Travel. Using Group Sightseeing as tour company we were off. We paid $750 peso per person. As far as I could tell everyone we went to in Playa Del Carmen was selling the exact same tour experience of Chichen Itza.
The tour starts with them picking you up at your hotel at around 8 in the morning to transport you to the tour bus. It's a mix of English and Spanish so the tour can be a little long. During the ride to the first destination, which took about 3 hours they go over a lot of Mayan history. How the civilization grew to be as powerful as they were, their writing, numbing system and a complete backstory on the Mayan culture.
Our first stop was at the Cenote Hubiku just north of Valladolid Mexico. A cenote is a natural sinkhole resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath. While you're here you have access to the cenote, all you can eat buffet (excluding drinks), there's a Mayan replica village, gift shop and tequila room but remember to use your time wisely because we only spent 2 hours here.
To finish the trip off we spent 30 minutes in the city of Valladolid Mexico. The bus tour stops in the city center and let's tourist get off, stretch, grab a quick meal or visit the Iglesia de San Servacio. A Catholic Church that was once a Mayan city, destroyed by the Spanish in the 16 century and used to build to what you see in the video.
Now on to the main attraction. Chichen Itza. The tour starts at the iconic Mayan temple, Kukulkan. Also known as El Castillo. The tour then took us to the Great Ball Court, Temple of the Warriors and The Plaza of a Thousand Columns. It's hard to do justice of Chichen Itza in a video so I tried to focus more on the review of the tours they sell in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
I hope you like the video, subscribe to my channel for similar videos and i'll see you in the next one =)

We started off in the morning in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, and the plan was to drive all the way to Merida, the capital of Yucatan state. But on the way, we’d stop off to eat some amazing Mexican food, and also visit some attractions in Yucatan like a cenote and Chichen Itza. It turned out to be one of the most amazing days of my Mexico trip - here’s everything we did and ate.
Tacos De Cecina Estilo Yecaixtla - Before leaving Playa Del Carmen, we desperately needed some taco nourishment, and so we stopped at Tacos De Cecina Estilo Yecaixtla, a street food stall that’s known for their beef tacos. I tried a few of their tacos, all of which were outstanding, and overflowing with meat!
Price - 74 MXN ($3.97) for my plate
Cenote X'canché - We drove towards Valladolid, and not too far from there is a cenote known as Cenote X'canché. The hard thing about Yucatan and visiting a cenote is that there are so many to choose from, but since we had a car, I wanted to go to one that was a little more off the beaten path and quiet. It proved to be an amazing experience, so quiet and peaceful.
Entrance - 50 MXN ($2.69), Bicycle ride - 100 MXN ($5.37) per person
La Tía de Kaua - There’s a Mexican food Yucatan dish known as poc chuc, that’s one of the ultimate dishes from the region - usually made of pork marinated and grilled or cooked over a hot fire griddle. In the sleepy town of Kaua, we stopped at La Tía de Kaua for some incredible poc chuc and freshly ground habanero tomato salsa. It was such an insanely delicious meal.
Total price - 300 MXN ($16.11) for 4 adults
Chichén Itzá - Finally, to wrap of the day of Mexican food and attractions in Yucatan, we drove to Chichen Itza. It’s one of the most visited attractions in Mexico and it’s an amazing sight to see. We arrived in the late afternoon, and luckily it wasn’t too busy.
Entrance price - 242 MXN ($13) per person
Mérida - Finally we arrived to Merida at night. Stay tuned for the next Merida street food tour!

Mexico-Playa del Carnen:
Playa del Carmen is a city located along the Caribbean Sea in the municipality of Solidaridad, in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. It is a popular tourist area in eastern Mexico. Playa del Carmen features a wide array of tourist activities due to its geographical location in the Riviera Maya. It has also been the destination of PGA Tour golf tournaments and the set location for various television shows. Playa del Carmen is located within the Riviera Maya, which runs from south of Cancún to Tulum and the Sian Ka'an biosphere reserve. Playa is a stop for several cruise ships which dock at the nearby Calica quarry docks, about six miles (10 km) south of the city. The Xcaret Eco Park, a Mexican-themed eco-archaeological park, is a popular tourist destination located just south of the town in Xcaret
In October 2005 Hurricane Wilma passed directly over Playa del Carmen, remaining in the vicinity for two days and causing significant damage and a temporary drop in tourist arrivals. Fortunately, most of the damage was relatively superficial and repaired within a few weeks of the storm. Hurricane Wilma arrived from the Caribbean Sea, passing over Cozumel before making landfall in Playa del Carmen. It then moved north along the Mexican coast, hitting Cancún especially hard.
Tourism: Originally a small fishing town, tourism to Playa del Carmen began with the passenger ferry service to Cozumel, an island across the Cozumel Channel and a world-famous scuba diving destination.
Playa del Carmen has recently undergone extreme rapid development with new luxury residential condominium buildings, restaurants, boutiques and entertainment venues. Tourist activity in Playa del Carmen centers on Quinta Avenida, or Fifth Avenue, which stretches from Calle 1 norte to Calle 40. A pedestrian walkway located just one or two blocks inland from the beach, Fifth Avenue is lined with hundreds of shops, bars and restaurants. There are many small boutique hotels on and just off Fifth Avenue and on the beach.
Playacar is a residential and tourist development in Playa del Carmen just south of the main urban area. Most of the all-inclusive hotels, the aviary and the golf course are located in this development. There are two phases -- phase 1 is mostly residential with a few hotels and some stores, while phase 2 contains the largest all-inclusive resorts as well as the golf course and a significant number of residential properties.Wikipedia

At 17 years old, she studied Spanish for at least 3-4 hours per day from Monday to Friday, for at least 3 weeks living on her own in a hostel instead of a homestay.
A homestay would have been better in my opinion, but this is her journey.
Good luck Ate Bree!
