Places to see in ( Munich - Germany ) Schwabing
Schwabing is a borough in the northern part of Munich, the capital of the German state of Bavaria. It is divided into the city borough 4 (Schwabing-West) and the city borough 12 (Schwabing-Freimann). The main boulevard is the Leopoldstrasse. For further information on the Munich boroughs, see: Boroughs of Munich.
Schwabing used to be famous as Munich's bohemian quarter and is still popular among tourists and locals, especially young people, for its accumulation of bars, clubs, and restaurants. Another popular location is the Englischer Garten, or English Garden, one of the world's largest public parks. (Other not so common parks in Schwabing are: Leopoldpark, Petuelpark and Biotop am Ackermannbogen).
The main buildings of Munich's largest universities, Ludwigs-Maximilians-Universität and the Technical University of Munich and Academy of Fine Arts are situated in the nearby Maxvorstadt. A student housing area called Studentenstadt (literally, student city) ist located in the north of Schwabing.
Schwabing became very famous especially during the reign of Prince Regent Luitpold when numerous artists like Ludwig Ganghofer, Heinrich Mann, Thomas Mann, Oskar Panizza, Otto Julius Bierbaum, Frank Wedekind, Ernst von Wolzogen, Gustav Meyrink, Rainer Maria Rilke, Isolde Kurz, Ludwig Thoma, Max Halbe, Annette Kolb, Stefan George, Karl Wolfskehl, Ludwig Klages, Roda Roda, Christian Morgenstern, Max Dauthendey, Mechtilde Lichnowsky, Lion Feuchtwanger, Leonhard Frank, Joachim Ringelnatz, Claire Goll, Oskar Maria Graf, Hugo Ball, Hermann Kesten, Thomas Theodor Heine, Olaf Gulbransson, Bruno Paul, Eduard Thöny and Rudolf Wilke lived or worked there. Lenin was a resident of Schwabing for some years, as was noted psychoanalyst and bohemian Otto Gross. The Countess Fanny zu Reventlow was known as The Bohemian Countess of Schwabing. The gentrification of Schwabing and various construction projects have led to protests, so around 2011.

Academy of Fine Arts Munich
Academy of Fine Arts, Munich - COOP HIMMELB(L)AU 1992-2005
COOP HIMMELB(L)AU's design concept is based on the idea of transforming the three different urban spatial systems which come together on the site: the axial system of Leopoldstraße / Akademiestraße with its stately buildings; the structure of Schwabing, developed over time with its small-scale, differentiated buildings; and the garden areas of Leopoldpark and Akademiegarten with their historical trees. The open configuration of buildings locked together produces a sequence of transitory spaces between the park and urban spaces: the glass facade as a media membrane, the gate to the Academy, the inner court, the studio terraces as the connecting link and gate to the park. Diagonal ramps and gangways connect the functional areas of the various parts of the building and thus the different departments. In this way, an energized complex is created, which corresponds ideally to the diversity of creative activity. The art school extension houses painting studios, sculpture studios, a media workshop, photography studios and a print workshop.

Urban Outdoor Sessions, #28/30, Leopoldpark
Leopoldpark is a small park between Leopold and Friedrichstrasse. There's a playground and the University Kindergarten, couple of table tennis spots and that's it. It's small and beautiful and a tiny quiet spot to leave the city behind for a moment.
Urban Outdoor Session 28 is done, feeling strong (despite the migraine today), see you tomorrow!
Oostende to Southend
On April 1st 2007 we made a flight from Oostende to Southend, Oxford and back to Oostende. This is footage of the first leg to Southend.

Urban Outdoor Session, #18/30, Bavaria/Theresienwiese
This is a good one. I recorded at Theresienwiese, the huge square of the famous Munich Oktoberfest. During the year this place is mostly empty except for smaller events. Currently there's the Circus of Horror.
The big palace and statue in the background is, of course, Bavaria, the 19th-century female personification of the bavarian homeland. You can enter the statue and walk a trillion stairs up into her head.
This place is huge! And when it's empty ideal for roller skating, picknicks flying kytes etc...
OK, so that makes 18 out of 30, 12 to go.
Enjoy, Like and Share! See you tomorrow.
Urban Outdoor Sessions, #16/30, Marienplatz Muenchen
Today was the toughest session so far. I thought the city center in front of town hall would be quiet and easy on a sunday morning at 5am.
I was dead wrong. I guess it was bad timing. Just yesterday, Bayern Muenchen celebrated their 1millionth time of winning the A-league trophy at town hall with thousands of drunk fans, then there is Street Life Festival, which is running on a stretch of 3km through Ludwig and Leopoldstrasse (washing up huge amounts of people who are too drunk to find their way home), plus there are tons of clubs around Marienplatz and they all close their doors at around 5am.
At exactly the time I started playing, street cleaning started as well, making a hell of a noise. I've never encountered anything from old guys hitting on young women to weird looks to drunks throwing money at me in such a short amount of time. Also the place reeked of alcohol and old party stench. Choose the time of your visit of this place wisely, best during shopping hours!
Anyway, feeling strong. See you tomorrow!
Urban Outdoor Sessions, #12/30, Schlachthof Muenchen
Today I went to the secret gardens at Schlachthof Muenchen. This part of the slaughterhouse is not really in use anymore, except for the truckwash stations, where they clean their trucks after delivering the animals to the slaughterhouse (the part that is still in use).
People went in there and built little gardens where they plant fruits and veggies. behind the wall are traintracks, you can hear trains going by in the video.

Urban Outdoor Sessions, #14/30, Theatron Munich
Last night I played a gig with Dr.Will, came home late, so I just couldn't get up at 5am to go shoot a video. Many years ago I played Theatron at Olympic Park (they host a big summer stage there) and so I thought it would be fun to play there on my own this morning.
Turns out, today is a huge E-Bike exhibition, where you can look at bikes and even rent and test drive them on tracks through the entire olympic park. If you have the time, go check it out!
This is episode #14/30. 16 to go!

Urban Outdoor Sessions, #23/30, Maximilianeum
Maximilianeum is where the Bavarian State Parliament is housed. It is also a home for specially gifted students.
As I started to play I realized there are tons of security cameras surveilling the area. It is an official state department building. I expected some sort of security outfit to show up but nothing happened.
It is a beautiful place surrounded by a lovely park that offers beautiful and quiet spots to enjoy city nature.
This is Urban Outdoor Session 23. 7 to go.
Feeling strong, see you tomorrow.
Urban Outdoor Sessions, #8/30, St.Emmeram
Today, again it looked like rain, so I recorded at St.Emmeram Bridge at Englischer Garten. The park has such a tremenduously calming atmosphere. I think it's one of the most beautiful city parks in the world.
This is session nr.8, so I've got 22 to go.
See you tomorro from somewhere in Munich.
Urban Outdoor Sessions, #13/30, Hauptbahnhof Muenchen
The sun is out, it's officially summer! Nothing better to do than going to central station to record music. Hauptbahnhof is actually a very pretty place early in the morning, lot's of interesting people who are all not quite awake yet.
Went out to the end of track 18 to record todays Urban Outdoor Session.
Also, I tried to be a bit more adventurous with the film editing. Unfortunately, my mac handles video extremely slowly, so while I'm editing I can't really tell if the cuts are smooth. So it says rough, but that's just what it is.

1 hour | Brussels Park Fountain, Belgium
Brussels Park - Parc de Bruxelles (French) or Warandepark (Dutch), is the largest urban public park in the center of Brussels. The area of the rectangular park is 13.1 ha (32 acres). It is surrounded by the Royal Palace of Brussels, the Belgian parliament and the United States embassy. In the summer, free parties are organized every weekend in the heart of this park. The park is served by Park metro station on line 1 & 5 of the Brussels metro.
The park was created between 1776 and 1783 on the site of the gardens of the former Coudenberg palace. The park was designed in a neoclassicist, geometric style by Gilles-Barnabé Guimard and Joachim Zinner. Its main entrance is on the north side, opposite the Belgian House of Parliament. An avenue leads to the main pond, from which three other avenues offer views of three important places in Brussels: the Palace of Justice, the Royal Palace and the Place du Trône (Troonplein). The park is surrounded by a double row of lime trees and a monumental fence designed by Tilman-François Suys. The park was most recently renovated between 2000 and 2002.

Urban Outdoor Sessions, #17/30, Dedicated to Sophie Scholl
Sophie Scholl, her brothers and everyone involved in Die weiße Rose were great young people and I admire their unshakeable believe in freedom and freedom of speech.
Today, more than ever in the last 70+ years it is important to not only observe what's going on but to speak out.
Looking back sometimes is the best thing to do to avoid repetition of mistakes.
I, as an artist, believe in the freedom of expression and although this is just a small contribution, it's a statement I whish to make more often these days.
That's why I shot this video in front of Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, where Sophie and her brother Hans distributed their letters to students in the foyer of the building shortly before they were arrested by the Nazis.
Tomorrow will be a lighter session again, promise!
17 down, 13 to go. Feeling strong, see you tomorrow!
Urban Outdoor Sessions, #7/30, Hangover at the beergarden
Today it looked rainy, so I didn't know if I should do another tunnel video or risk it and go to a beergarden. I chose the beergarden. This one's at Chinesischer Turm (Chinese Tower) in the middle of Englischer Garten. It was still kinda dark out with heavy clouds. Despite a light drizzle I was able to get the whole session done without getting soaked.
