visit to #kendal #castle in #lake district [last part]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The castle was probably built in the late 12th century as the home of the Lancaster family who were Barons of Kendal. The best-known family associated with the castle was the Parr family; including Queen Catherine Parr, the sixth wife of King Henry VIII of England. Her family had lived at Kendal since her ancestor Sir William Parr married the heiress of Kendal, Elizabeth Ros, during the reign of Edward III of England. By the time Catherine Parr was born, the family had long deserted the castle which was already falling into disrepair. Catherine's father preferred to live in the centre of court in London. Sir Thomas's father seems to be the last of the Parrs to have lived at Kendal Castle.[2]
The building has been a ruin since Tudor times but imposing stonework remains are still present.-------

Kendal Mountain Festival 10k 2019
In association with Yugen Explore I filmed the Kendal Mountain Festival 10k went up Beast Banks and eventually back down the cobbles of Stoney Lane...
I took the sound of the ascent I was using footage from two devices. Video quality lower on my phone footage as I was live streaming.
The cobblestones are a pretty unique and treacherous part of the final kilometre which is why plenty of folks watch at this point.

Young Persons Weekend: OFFICIAL Promotional Video - October 2012
CMT Young Persons Weekends
A support group for young people with Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease & Supported by CMT United Kingdom.
This support group is for kids, teenagers and young adults who have CMT and aims to help you to keep in touch with other young people with CMT. This group is not for parents unless your child is not yet old enough to join. You can ask questions and talk about anything you like, not just CMT!

History of the Young People's Weekend
=================================================
The Young People's Weekend was started in 1992, when we decided to take a small party of children with CMT to Centre Parcs in Sherwood Forest for the weekend. A grant was forthcoming from BBC Children in Need and a small number of children with CMT, together with a friend or sibling if they wanted, spent a fantastic weekend meeting other kids with CMT.
Since then, we've tried to do a similar weekend every other year to start with and every year for the last 3 years. We've been to Butlins at Skegness; the Bendrigg Trust Centre in Kendal, Cumbria; and latterly the Calvert Trust Centre on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, near Keswick in the Lake District.
Latterly, the focus has been more on activity weekends - allowing kids of between 11 and 18 the chance to experience rock climbing, abseiling, zip wire, archery, canoeing and other equally scary pursuits! Both the Calvert Trust Centres and The Bendrigg Trust are centres specifically catering to disabled clients, so they have specialist knowledge and training to ensure that the weekends are a complete success.
There are lots of pictures of the 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 on Flickr - links are below so if it's your thing - why not come along!

Stunning Lake District mountain bike ride out at Kendal Mountain Film Festival
Wheelbase Cycles asked me to help them herd riders on a classic route out of Staveley in the Lake District the morning after Bike Night at the Kendal Mountain Film Festival. Turned out to be a stunning day with the Trek Factory Racing Enduro team, Tracy Moseley and everyone from local young lads and a not so young lad on his Trek Powerfly charging round Sleddale, Sadgill and Green Quarter. Thanks to Wheelbase and Trek for the invite as well as Specialized, Gore, Camelbak, Bell, Mavic, Maxxis, Bontrager and 7 Mesh for the kit used while filming.

South Lakes Foyer - What Does It Mean To You?
This film was made by Kendal College students on the L3 Film Diploma.
South Lakes Foyer is a joint partnership between Impact Housing Association and Kendal YWCA. It adopts an holistic approach and is committed to effective working with other agencies to enhance the service each resident receives. South Lakes Foyer provides 14 self-contained flats for 16 to 25-year-old, single young people with a maximum tenancy of two years. The flats each have their own lounge, kitchen, bedroom and shower room, and each is furnished with a fridge, cooker, bedroom and lounge furniture.
There is an extensive team at South Lakes Foyer to ensure that we are able to provide the support that our residents require. Each tenant has a named worker who works with them on their individual personal plan and helps them to make informed choices on issues important to them, to ensure that they can enhance their life chances and opportunities. Residents also have the option of a flexi-worker to pursue any of their extra personal goals and interests.
YWCA Kendal operates the Resource Centre at South Lake Foyer. The aim of YWCA Kendal is to inspire people to achieve their potential through developing skills, self-confidence, knowledge that will empower them to breakdown the barriers they face in the community and gaining employment. We have researched what needs exist within the local community and through contact with local agencies and have developed a Community Programme that offers a range of services to meet those needs. Our Community Programme includes a work club, advice and information drop-in sessions, computer for beginners courses, cv writing session and letter writing service. The services that we will offer have been developed to meet these needs and fill the gaps in service provision created by the reduction or withdrawal of existing services in the locality.
In addition, the Resource Centre hires conference and meeting space to local businesses, charities and community groups. The income generated from the rental of the conference and meeting rooms helps to support the community activities, sessions and drop-in services.

Mountain Walking at Newlands Adventure Centre, Keswick
Mountain Walking is a great way to exercise but is not the sort of outdoor activity that should be taken lightly. Proper attire, equipment and route planning are included in any mountain walk as well as reference to the weather forecast. We can arrange everything for your group, from a low level wander around the lake to a full day on England's highest mountains, all very close to Newlands. You will be taken on a guided walk by one of our Instructors who will be able to tell you about many of the things you will see e.g. local mines for the 'lead' in the worlds first pencils and the quarries for Kendal Mint Cake.
