Gravity - Cathryn Shilling & Amanda Simmons at London Glassblowing
Gravity is our first exhibition of 2014, and showcases the stunning work of artists Cathryn Shilling, and Amanda Simmons.
Both Cathryn and Amanda use a combination of heat and gravity (not to mention a huge amount of skill and judgement) in order to form their glass. This exhibition demonstrates the beauty, and technical intricacy of kilnformed glass at its very highest level. It is a privilege to have such a magnificent body of work by two very talented ladies.
The exhibition will run from January 31st, through to 1st March.

Traditional glassblower re-opens for business despite crisis
One of Syria's few glass blowers has re-opened for business.
Despite the country's economic crisis and lack of tourism, Abu Talal is refusing to let his profession die.
The ovens glow red hot, awaiting the attention of master glass blower, Abu Talal.
He's one of the few glass blowers left in Damascus.
It is a very ancient profession, invented by the Phoenicians more than 3000 years ago. They invented it and they used to use the towing and moulding. The Damascenes are the first who blew the glass in the world, he says.
Talal owns a small workshop a few metres outside the city walls.
He went out of business two and a half years ago, when the price of fuel for the ovens rocketed and the tourists stopped coming.
Business had also been slow because people rely more on imported glass and machines.
But he recently decided to re-open, on a much smaller scale.
Nowadays there are only two workshops in Damascus and only a few ones in all of Syria that are still using the same mechanism that you have just seen, he says proudly.
Tourism was one of the most important sectors in Syria.
But the three and a half year war that has ravaged the country has taken its toll.
Talal has had to adjust his business, and his oven, accordingly:
We used to work using a bigger one, a much bigger one, and we used to run it 24 hours a day. For this we made this small oven to pass the time and to manage our life in this tragic situation we are going through, .
He's hoping these glass lamps might provide the light at the end of the tunnel he's looking for.
