City councillors have deliberately chosen to favour their political donors and well-connected lobbyists rather than the people of Richmond.
There is no way to sugar-coat this: Richmond City Council has abdicated leadership and moral stewardship on the preservation of farmland, which is being overdeveloped into extravagant mega-mansions.
Councillors voted Monday, at the general committee meeting, to not only keep the maximum farmhouse size at the current 10,764 sq. ft., but to also allow an additional house 3,000 sq. ft. to be built on larger farm lots without rezoning. That's 14,000 sq. ft. on some of the most fertile soil in British Columbia.
