Oslo Nightlife: Metal bars and rock venues
Let me show you the best bars for metal heads in Oslo! Visit the most popular venues for the rock and metal crowd. Norway is known as the birth place of black-metal, but the bars that actually play the music can be a bit hard to find. But they are there!
* Last Train (lasttrain.no)
This is the oldest rock bar in Oslo. It was started in 1984, and is still among the best. Most of the crowd that visits Last Train is a bit mature, but not exclusively. The venue is small but nice, and there is a pinball machine in the back. Many, many bands have played here over the years, including Turbonegre, BigBang, and Hellacopters. The music genre is rock in the broader sense of the term, mostly older stuff.
Rock In (rockin.no)
This is a large metal bar located in a basement just off Karl Johans gate, by Egertorget. It's as central as can be, but a bit hidden in a side street to Karl Johan. The age limit here is 20 year. Therefore it's a bit more popular among younger people, but there really are all kinds of people here. The beer here is particularly cheap, and the vibe is good.
Fiasco (fiasco.no)
Fiasco, or Cafe Fiasco is a pub with an odd location in between the bus terminal (Galleri Oslo), the train station, and Plaza Hotel. They have a large selection of craft beer from tap, and great burgers. The music genre is rock and metal, and the crowd is mixed.
Aye Aye Club (stuntsquad.no/ayeayeclub)
This pirate themed pub is a well known drinking establishment in Oslo for metal heads. They also serve pub food here, given that it's not too late in the evening. There is a large back yard with tables where you can smoke. Normally in the weekends there's a DJ and the vibe is relaxed.
Mono (cafemono.no)
This is a very well known pseudo-rock bar in Oslo. It is located at the corner of Youngstorget, which is a square with lots of good nightlife venues. The music is mostly rock, but also other stuff. The theme is dark, dark, and ugly wallpaper. After midnight there will be a long queue to get in. There is also a large smoking area in the backyard. The crowd is mixed, mostly younger people. This is also a concert venue.
Kniven (knivenbar.no)
The word Kniven translates into The Knife. The owner got stabbed in a street not far from here back in 2008, and was awarded compensation money from the attacker. He then used the money to start this bar, which since has become very popular. This bar is a bit more metal than for example Mono or Fiasco. The crowd also look a bit more metally as well. It's not a large venue, but the layout is nice. It's easy to get in touch with people at this place. They have the regular Frydenlund beer on tap, but also Brooklyn lager, Bulmers cider, and a guest brew. There is a DJ in the weekend. Along with Rock In, this is my favorite metal bar in Oslo.

Oslo is a small town with only 600,000 inhabitants you'd think there isn't much to do in Oslo. Well, you may be pleasantly surprised. Oslo has a lot of great bars & night clubs to offer but the only downside; Oslo is VERY expensive and venues close at 3:00am but that shouldn't prevent you from having an amazing time.
I recommend you start your evening in the Grünerløkka hipster district, this renovated district has quite a few great places to grab a few drinks like Blå & Bortenfor easily located right next to each other. Blå is often considered the best place to be on a Sunday.
In the downtown core of Oslo there is a bar alley way called Strøget which houses a conglomerate of bars namely; Uhørt, Angst, Den Gamle Stobutikken and Karusell all great for socializing and a few beers.
My favorite venue in Oslo is Kulturhuset, a massive social complex with ping-pong tables, fussball, multiple stories of bars and multiple dance floors. I met so many incredible locals at this place that I always ended my nights at this place. A must visit in Oslo!
For some good ol' fist pumpin' and beats head over to NOX/Sollihagen for a young Norwegian crowd or Stratos for an upscale EDM rooftop party with incredible views of Oslo. Alternatively, there is the Lawo lounge where you can mingle with the high rollers and upscale peeps of Oslo. Make sure to try the true Norwegian shots: Akvavit or Aquavit, this extremely strong liquor will have you question your new found Norwegian friends.
If you are an electro head or techno music enthusiast there is a great club called The Villa, this place often featured world famous techno DJ's. End your night with an epic pork knuckle wrap from the Crowbar & Brewery on the Torggata street where you will also find Cafe Sara. In conclusion, Oslo is a small, expensive but amazing city for a few days of sightseeing and making new Norwegian friends.

It`s a HUMAN Right To Be Yourself!!!
Judy-Viv Live 2009
Over the years I have taken to great pains listening to people who insist that it is not natural for a person to experience love between the same sex.
The arguments are basically that it is not NATURAL and they quote the holy Bible... Well... Natural? Homosexuality has existed since the Beginning of Time and will always be here till the END of Time - and who in their right mind can stand up and proclaim they live strictly by the Bible?
Even in the world of nature we find homosexuality. We were put on this earth with love and care.
I challenge every man and female who in the name of religion and love stresses the subject that love and marriage between two adult people is a sin, a crime or a sickness.
We have murder, child abuse, adultery, liars and greed..... and many who has committed these sins quote the Bible and will cleanse the world for a better place....
As Jesus himself said when he rescued a prostitute from being stoned.... he said something to this effect:
The first one who is free of sin, throw the first stone...!
No one did and left the premises....
Furthermore.... it is an individual`s right to be ones self.... We all fight that right daily. This video pays tribute to people within the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender groups----

A Walk Around The City Centre, Oslo, Norway
The inner city centre is bounded by Oslo Central Station (Oslo S) to the east, the Royal Palace (Slottet) to the west and the seafront (from Akershus fortress to Aker brygge) to the south. It is fairly compact and easily walkable. Karl Johans gate, the mostly pedestrian main street connecting Oslo S and the Palace, is the main artery of downtown Oslo. However, several of the neighbourhoods close to the centre hold interesting sights and entertainment offerings, so to explore these you should make use of the city's comprehensive and modern public transport system.

Oslo Nightlife: Grünerløkka
Check out the best bars in Oslo's finest bar district. This is where Oslo locals go to drink, well away from the touristy bars in Karl Johans gate and downtown Oslo.
Django is a jazz bar at the top of Grünerløkka, by Birkelunden park. They have live jazz performances Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday. The bands are regulars, but there are different ones on different days.
Tea Lounge is a cozy bar by Birkelunden park.
Cafe 33 is a famous dive bar in Thorvald Meyers gate, at the corner of Birkelunden. It has recently been refurbished and is now called Sport 33. It's a great place to watch the game, they even have a 92 plasma screen. After dark in the weekends, the big screens go off and it's back to the good ol' 33 again. This bar closes at 3 am. every day of the week. When the other surrounding bars close earlier at 1 am. on weekdays, this place usually gets crowded.
Bar Boca was the first cocktail bar on Grünerløkka when it opened in 1998, and it's a real hipster place. The music is Rumba, Mambo, 50's, Rockabilly, Surf. You should try the Dry Martini, which is the classic Bar Boca drink.
Grünerløkka Brygghus is a micro brewery pub which has food and 21 beers on tap, where 13 of them have been brewed close by, on Grünerløkka.
Aku Aku bar is a tiki bar. Feel the tropical vibes while enjoying one of the three local beers from tap, or have a cocktail with in-house squeezed juices. They are famous for their rum based chili drinks.
Chair is Norway's only gin bar. They have more than 100 types of gin, and 9 beers on tap. The music profile is motown and funk.
Fru Hagen is a popular bar which attracts a mixed crowd. They have DJ's in the weekends, and dancing may occur. This bar has been here for over 20 years, so they must be doing something right.
Parkteatret is a bar and concert venue in an old movie theater by Olaf Ryes plass park. It's immensely popular, both inside, and the side walk bar which is overlooking the park. They have 10 beers on tap, and a cider as well.
Ryes is a 50's themed bar on the lower side of Olaf Ryes plass. They play 50's music and rockabilly. Lots of different characters come here, including bikers, most of the crowd are between 30 and 50 years old.
Rebell is an 80's themed bar which attracts all kinds of people. They play club oriented music, and there are new DJ's almost every weekend. They have 6 beers on tap, and a range of fancy drinks.
Memphis bar has more of an international crowd. It's a dance place, and they play mostly hip hop and R&B. Vodka Redbull is the drink of choice here.
Mir / Grünerløkka Lufthavn is an alternative bar, hidden away in a backyard in Toftes gate. There are lots of concerts of alternative music here, and the place has existed for over 20 years. You can play the foosball table in the basement, or sit in the old airline seats by the stage.
Qadis is located in a building which has housed some really nasty bars earlier, but this time they got it right. The new owners have completely changed the bar to a sports bar/cocktail bar. In the weekends it's more danceable music, and there will be a long queue. They have 7 beers on tap.
Glød is a chill beer and wine bar with varied music played exclusively from vinyl.
Hytta is another small cozy bar right next to Glød. It's the hang-around for local artists, and they play strictly vinyl of course.
Alexandria is one of the oldest pubs on Grünerløkka. You can watch the game here, and a cover band plays Rolling Stones etc. on Mondays. This place has the cheapest beer on this list.
Bettola is a cocktail bar at the end of Thorvald Meyers gate, right by Nybrua bridge. They play mainstream music, and they have fantastic cocktails. The furniture is exclusively Scandinavian from the 60's and 70's, and you can actually purchase it if you like.
Territoriet is a wine bar in Markveien. They have 450 different wines which can be ordered by glass, and they also have one beer on tap. The music has rock profile, and it's only vinyl (duh).
BD57 is the name of the BrewDog pub in Oslo, it's also in Markveien. They have pub food until 9 pm., burgers, ribs, and more. They have a new beer on tap almost every day, and about 20 on tap at any given time.
Syng is a karaoke bar by the Akerselva river. They have four karaoke rooms, and a large main area. In the weekends they play upbeat music you can dance to. There will be a line after 12 in the weekends.
Ingensteds and Blå are two nightclubs on Grünerløkka, by Akerselva river. Blå is the oldest and most well known of the two, and they are both very popular. Expect long lines after 9 pm in the weekends.
Party hard, and take care!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the #travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :) #travelvlog #oslo #norway
