The CBD is the heart of Cape Town, and Long Street is its major artery. Running all the way from the Cape Town Convention Centre, cutting through the middle of the CBD, and ending at Kloof Street, Long Street is a major part of the city’s street culture.
During the day the street is a full with people visiting the interesting shops and café that line the street, and when the sun drops behind the mountain the activity intensifies around the street’s many restaurants, bars, and clubs.

Dean put on his tour guide hat for a day and visited Long Street in Cape Town. His journey takes him from the bottom to the top and down again. There are close to 60 shops and people in this video, but you only see Dean 3 or 4 times. He used a simple trick we like to call The informal interview.
The Informal Interview
Not everyone likes being on camera, but luckily there is another way of getting information across to the viewer. This is something we call an informal interview. Just ask people simple questions. Obviously you may want to give your interviewee a pre-warning that you are filming (and ask permission). I put emphasis on the word simple because you don't want long open ended answers. Also try and get them to answer with the question repeated in the answer.
Example:
Q: Where are we? A: Here. Wrong.
Q: Where are we? A: We are here. Correct
This way you can cut your voice asking the question out of the final video.

Long Street is a major street located in the City Bowl section of Cape Town, South Africa. It is famous as a bohemian hang out and the street is lined with many book stores, various ethnic restaurants and bars. Restaurants include African restaurants such as Zula, and Indian restaurants such as Masala Dosa. Long Street exhibits a diversified culture and attracts tourists from all over the world. It also has a number of youth hostels which provide accommodation to an international roster of guests. Several theatres which showed anti-apartheid plays were located on the street during the 1970s and 1980s, although most have now closed and been replaced by restaurants or stores.
Architecturally it is noted for its Victorian buildings with wrought iron balconies. These were featured in an article in an edition of the annual publication The Saturday Book.

In this episode we venture into the heart of Cape Town. Between the cracks of our Mother Cities streets, to what was once known as the hottest stretch of club life this city had to offer.
In recent years the club life has drifted more towards the outter rim of the city center, where the beach side lounges are now brimming with short skirts and tequila.
Although legends never die, I tagged along with my friends to Club 169 in Longstreet, here you will still find mainstream hip hop and lovely ladies, and if you are the kind who likes to read while people are twerking... there is a small library which adds soo much character to the VIP section, sadly I was not allowed to film in the VIP section, for obvious reasons, O well hope you enjoy this insight into Cape Towns Night Life

If you're like most people, Africa in general is a pretty foreign land to you. And you might be thinking of visiting Cape Town in South Africa, but are concerned with whether it is safe, considering that a lot of folks have heard about the crime levels in the city.
We spent about a week and a half in Cape Town, and we can tell you that the tourist parts you plan to visit are indeed safe. We can also tell you, after talking with many locals, that the city bowl downtown area is not what we'd call safe.

Our local friends took us to Orphanage which to me, rivaled any cocktail club I've been to in NYC or Buenos Aires and later to Beerhouse--a rowdy but laidback beer hall filled with quality brews.
Cape Town indeed has it all.
