Street Food (China) Epi 7.1 - Lost Plate Food Tour
The wait is over! Street Food Season 7 is here!
… Only one problem.
Our hard drive crashed right before we exported the first six episodes of the season. And we lost a ton of footage.
This longer-than-usual video covers about half the snacks featured on the Lost Plate Food Tour - Xi'an's preeminent street food tour! Even though we lost the footage, we want to tell you about the folks at Lost Plate because they're awesome!

Xian Local Morning Market
Thursday and Sunday are market day in the deep, hidden streets of Xian's Muslim Quarter. Our Xian Morning Food & Market tour visits the market where we always find all kinds of interesting things. Take a look!
Xian BBQ
Take a look at our first stop during our Xian Food Tour! This old man sits in a small pedestrian alley every night grilling meat on sticks with his special blend of seasonings and secret sauce. No tourists here, just good food in a quiet community.
Lost Plate Beijing Food Tour
Watch a preview of Beijing's most popular food tour from Lost Plate!
Beijing is a huge city, and the only way to find the best, hidden local food is to wind your way through the hutong alleys of Beijing where the locals live...with your own tuktuk! We only stop at local, family run shops that you (or any other tourist) would never find on your own. Our tuktuks are the only way to get off the beaten path to eat the best food in the city by covering over 10km all around the city, not just one street. Oh, and all of our Beijing Food Tours include unlimited beer (or soft drinks if you prefer) and a stop at a local brewery!

Xi'an Muslim Quarter Info:
The Muslim Quarter is the hub of the Muslim community in Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province. Located to the north of the West Street in the city centre, the quarter covers several blocks inhabited by over 20,000 Muslims. There are about ten mosques in the area of the Muslim Street, among which the Great Mosque in the Huajue Lane is the most famous and popular.
Muslim food and souvenir market is another feature of the area. The Beiyuanmen Muslim Market located just to the north of the Drum Tower is a great choice after the sightseeing in the city centre. About 500 meters (about 547 yards) in length from south to north, the street can be reached through the archway under the Drum Tower. This street is paved with dark colored stone with green trees providing heavy shade during summer; the buildings on both sides of the street are modeled on the styles of both the Ming (1368-1644) and the Qing Dynasties (1644-1911). Some of the constructions are restaurants; while others are stores. But here there is one thing in common: the owners are all Muslims.

Into the Deep-End of Chengdu’s Food Scene w Lost Plate Tours
I've lived in Chengdu for a year and a half. I've tried so much incredible Sichuan food - soups, stir-fries, hot pots, and more - but it's time to go deeper into the Chengdu food scene. There are so many restaurants and food stalls in Chengdu, that it's hard to find the best places, so I'm enlisting the help of Lost Plate, a company that specializes in food tours. They have a reputation for finding the hidden gems of the Chengdu culinary world.
Our ride was a tuk-tuk, complete with a cooler full of beer. We zipped from food stand to restaurant, trying as much food as we wished. Everything was delicious and the atmospheres had exactly what I look for when I'm traveling overseas - authenticity. We ate fried rice balls, egg pancakes, wontons, various noodles dishes, shuizhu pork, century egg, and all sorts of interesting meats skewered on sticks (ever eaten the palm of a duck? How about pigeon stomach?). I was thoroughly impressed by the knowledge of our guide Ling. She made me realize that I have a long way to go before I can call myself an expert in Sichuan cuisine. I guess I'll have to keep eating... ????
???? If you want to book a tour with Lost Plate, it's as easy as heading over the and filling in some information. The have tours in Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai and Xian. ????
Please check out my series Chengdu: City of Gastronomy where I am eating my way through a deck of cards. I bought a deck of food themed playing cards that feature a different Sichuan dish on every card. Every week I'll shuffle the deck and pick one random card to hunt down and sample.
