Mayor Bowser Delivers 'State of the District Address' 3/30/17
USA: WASHINGTON NATIONAL ZOO GIANT PANDAS
English/Nat
XFA
Dozens of people are getting their first glimpse of Washington's newest couple -- and it isn't the Bushes.
More than 200 people lined up this morning to see the National Zoo's newest giant pandas.
Some lined up about four hours before the exhibit opened to see Mei Xiang (may-SHAHNG') and Tian Tian
The fuzzy pair probably felt right at home -- the first person to enter the exhibit was a little girl in a panda costume.
The pandas have been quarantined since arriving from China last month.
In an opening ceremony, Chinese officials said the pandas have brought the two countries closer together.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
The new pair of lovely pandas, Tian Tian and Mei Xiang, whom we are going to see very soon, are not only the new two residents of the National Zoo and the District of Columbia, but they are the two VIPs - very important pandas - who have brought our two great nations closer once again.
SUPER CAPTION: Li Zhaoxing/Ambassador, People's Republic of China
SOUNDBITE: (English)
We hope Mei Xiang and Tian Tian will wow all of you as they have wowed us, not just with their incredible appeal, those round black and white faces and their playful nature, but we also hope you'll be wowed by how agile they are and how much bamboo they eat. By how rough and fast they can play at times, because all of these features are part of the pandas adaptation to the natural world.
SUPER CAPTION: Lucy Spelman/Director, Smithsonian National Zoo
SOUNDBITE: (English)
I think they're kind of cool and they're different from normal bears. They don't, like, roar at you and they sometimes can get scared. They don't try to hurt people.
SUPER CAPTION: Vox Pop
SOUNDBITE: (English)
I think pandas are really pretty, and really beautiful and I feel very lucky to see them. (Reporter Q: Are you going to come back and see them again?) Yeah, definitely.

Watch: The Washington Nationals’ championship parade
A parade honoring the Washington Nationals’ historic World Series win against the Houston Astros is scheduled for Saturday, November 2, at 2 p.m. ET. Join Washington Post reporter Libby Casey and others for live coverage of the celebration. The Nationals are the first team in major league history to win the World Series by claiming four games on the road. They beat the Astros, 6-2, in Game 7 to secure the franchise’s first title and Washington’s first World Series championship since 1924, when the Senators topped the New York Giants in seven games.
While the final game was held in Houston, fans gathered across the city and at the stadium in Navy Yard to watch. They wore shark hats in honor of the team’s unofficial anthem, the children’s song “Baby Shark.” Watch the moment the ballpark erupted in celebration after the victory: Read more: Subscribe to The Washington Post on YouTube:

Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 27, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
The House managers wrapped up their arguments against President Trump on Jan. 24. Trump’s team, including lawyers Pat Cipollone and Jay Sekulow, now has 24 hours to present their case. After Trump’s lawyers conclude their presentation, senators will have an opportunity to submit questions to both sides in writing. Following that, debate will turn to whether to call witnesses and subpoena documents.
Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Impeachment does not mean that the president has been removed from office. In the next phase, the Senate must hold a trial to make that determination. A Senate impeachment trial has happened only two other times in American history and once in the modern era. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son.

Watch: House final vote on articles of impeachment (FULL LIVE STREAM)
The full House of Representatives will debate and vote on the articles of impeachment. If at least one of the articles passes, Trump will be the third president in U.S. history to be impeached. If the House decides to impeach, the Senate will hold a trial to consider if Trump should be removed from office. On this historic day, The Post’s Libby Casey will be joined by Washington Post reporters Elise Viebeck, Amber Phillips, and Rhonda Colvin to take you through the process.
Trump is the fourth president in U.S. history to face impeachment, which could be approved this week on the House floor. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son. Trump Impeachment Trial: Q&A begins (Day 8)
With opening arguments wrapped up in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, the next phase begins. For the next two days, senators get to ask questions of both legal teams. During that time, people will be looking for signs of whether enough Republicans will cross the aisle and agree to bring in witnesses -- particularly former national security adviser John Bolton.

Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 21, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
Today, the Senate will vote to start President Trump's Senate impeachment trial with a resolution that sets up the rules of the trial, including how long it will last and how long everyone has to speak. Each side will get a set amount of hours to present its case for or against the president.

DAVID CAY JOHNSTON: LIVING IN TRUMP'S AMERICA
While Twitter feuds and Russian hackers dominate news headlines, President Donald Trump’s administration is radically changing the policies and programs that define the American way of life. In their first year, the Trump administration’s efforts to defund Obamacare, repeal LGBT protections in the workplace, impose tax cuts and deport undocumented immigrants have significantly impacted millions of Americans, all while the mainstream media has struggled to keep up. Beyond the tweets, firings, scandals and indictments, how will Trump’s policy agenda continue to affect our daily lives?
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David Cay Johnston says he has the answers. Since 1988, Johnston has been chronicling Trump’s personal life and business dealings—from his casinos to his marriages and beyond. In his new book, It’s Even Worse Than You Think, Johnston is going where the media won’t—into the weeds—to shed new light on the Trump administration’s policies and bureaucratic choices and how they will change America. Join Johnston for a revealing conversation about the Trump administration’s impact on our finances, health care, safety and much, much more.
