Lytham to Blackpool Trams and Views 1903 (v2)
This film is part of a series of six from the Mitchell and Kenyon collection from 1903 originally uploaded to Youtube by Gordon Birt. The first reel of this film was taken on Lytham Green opposite the Clifton Hotel on West Beach. The remaining reels follow parts of the Tram journey as it was from Market Square in Lytham to the junction of Station Road and Lytham Road in South Shore Blackpool. The order of the reels in this film has been changed from Gordon's original compilation to reflect the actual tram route.
Please take a few moments at full screen and enjoy this fascinating set of clips from over a 115 years ago. You might consider changing the speed of the clip to 1.25 in the settings following a suggestion that this more replicates the correct running speed of the film.
The first reel begins with the camera opposite the Clifton Hotel in Lytham before sweeping across Lytham Green with views of Lytham Windmill and the former Lytham Pier. The actual Tram journey commences in Market Square with passengers alighting the tram and the camera also picks out views of the County Pub and 'Old Tom' the tree which used to sit in the middle of Hastings Place. The camera now films the route as the tram slowly begins moving off along Church Road with the camera positioned on the upper deck. Views then follow of Lowther Gardens and St Cuthberts Church before the tram proceeds down Cambridge Road. With Blackpool Road bridge in the background you can also see a steam loco passing underneath. Various parts of an unbuilt Clifton Drive and St Annes Square are captured before heading along Clifton Drive north and then turning down Squires Gate Lane. The railway can be seen as it crosses Squires Gate Bridge together with trams stored by the railways sidings. Finally travelling down Lytham Road the tram crosses Lytham Road bridge with a rare sight of the original South Shore station and platforms which can be seen underneath on the right before this journey finally comes to an end at Station Road.

A lovely calm day at Lytham beach.
Welcome to my channel.
This channel is mainly dedicated to videos of my hometown, Blackpool, Lancashire, England.
Blackpool is a beautiful seaside town on the north west coast of England.
We have many cool attractions here including our world famous Blackpool Tower, the Pleasure Beach, three piers and a lovely sandy beach..
Blackpool is a relatively poor town that gets (unfairly in my opinion), a lot of bad press..
The aim of my channel is to show Blackpool in a better light..
No town or city is perfect so it's best to appreciate the good parts wherever you live :)
Also videos of areas surrounding Blackpool. going north we have Bispham, Cleveleys, maybe as far as Fleetwood and Knott End. In the other direction, going south we will be visiting St Annes and Lytham.
In this video I am at Lytham.

Poulton-le-Fylde, commonly abbreviated to Poulton, is a market town in Lancashire, England, situated on the coastal plain called the Fylde. At the time of the Norman conquest Poulton was a small agricultural settlement in the hundred of Amounderness. The church of St Chad was recorded in 1094 when it was endowed to Lancaster Priory.
Poulton has the administrative centre of the borough of Wyre and is in the parliamentary constituency of Wyre and Preston North. It is part of the Blackpool Urban Area and approximately 5 miles (8 km) from Blackpool town centre; there are rail links to Blackpool and Preston, and bus routes to the larger towns and villages of the Fylde. Poulton has a library and two secondary schools; Baines School and Hodgson Academy. There is a farmers' market once a month and since October 2011 there has been a weekly market on Mondays in the centre of the town.
Poulton-le-Fylde stands 19 feet (5.8 m) above sea level. It is approximately 5 miles (8 km) north-east of Blackpool and approximately 16.5 miles (27 km) north-west of Preston. It is situated on the Fylde, a coastal plain that is approximately a 13-mile (20 km) square peninsula. The town is on flat, slightly raised ground, approximately 1 mile (2 km) from the River Wyre and 3 miles (5 km) from the Irish Sea.
Poulton's public spaces include the Jean Stansfield Memorial and Vicarage Park, Tithebarn Park and the Cottam Hall Playing Fields. The Jean Stansfield Memorial and Vicarage Park is close to the town centre. It was built in 1955 on the grounds of the town's former vicarage, sold to Poulton Council in 1951. Tithebarn Park, north-west of the town centre, was built on the site of a former railway halt, Poulton Curve. It features grass play areas.
Poulton town centre has been a Conservation Area since 1979 and 15 buildings and structures in the town have been designated as listed buildings by English Heritage for their special architectural, historical or cultural significance. The market place at the centre of Poulton is the width of two streets and is now closed to motor traffic.
Poulton-le-Fylde railway station, on the line between Kirkham and Fleetwood was originally situated at the bottom of the Breck, the road leading north out of Poulton. Poulton is approximately 13 miles (21 km) west of the M6 motorway and is linked to it by the M55 at Greenhalgh. There are A roads to Fleetwood, Blackpool, Preston, Garstang and Lancaster.
( Poulton Le Fylde - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Poulton Le Fylde . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Poulton Le Fylde - UK

A Victorian chemist shop and Second World War observation post and a kinetic water feature in Liverpool are among the hundreds of historic places that have been given heritage protection by Heritage England. The public body aims to help people enjoy and care for the country's historic environment by listing buildings so that they are protected from development. There were 553 new protected historic buildings and sites on the National Heritage List for England in 2019, according to the organisation's figures. They include 37 scheduled monuments, two parks and gardens and one protected ship wreck off the Norfolk coast. Also on the list are a Tudor playhouse and First World War training trenches among the numerous historic and quirky sites. Sites that have been added include a concrete arrow in the ground in Putsborough Sands, North Devon, used to direct bombers the right way to practice and First World War training trenches in Kent. The north Devon coast was one of the major training centres for allied troops in the run-up to D-day and the structure's one of only two of its kind in the county. Duncan Wilson, the chief executive of Historic England, highlighted the latest additions including a kinetic water sculpture, and the 19th Century Nursemaids Tunnel in Regent's Park, London. It is one of the earliest surviving pedestrian subways, built in 1821 and was built as the busy road above was considered dangerous, especially to children being taken to the park by a nursemaid. By celebrating the extraordinary historic places which surround us, above and below ground, we hope to inspire in people a greater interest in our shared heritage, and a commitment to pass it on, said Mr Wilson. The list includes a vertical spinning tunnel, a lido and a phone box in a field in north Yorkshire. Sandford Parks Lido in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, was listed because it is a remarkably intact example of a 1930s lido in the Arts and Crafts style which was built between 1934 and 1938. A former chemist shop in Lowestoft, Suffolk, was also added to the list, which was purpose-built for Chemist and Druggist Robert Morris in 1851 along with a vertical spinning tunnel in Milton Ernest, Bedfordshire. The Piazza Fountain at Beetham Plaza, Liverpool, was also included (which is known locally as the Bucket Fountain) was created by Welsh designer Richard Huws based on a prototype designed for the Festival of Britain in 1951.
