Volunteering with the Lytham St Annes Spitfire Display Team - Hangar 42, Blackpool Airport
In July 2015 the Lytham St Annes Spitfire Display Team took over the lease of Hangar 42, Blackpool Airport. This original Bellman Hangar was constructed in 1939 and survived only due to its mothballed, but delapdated state. Volunteers make up the ranks of the Lytham St Annes Spitfire Ground Display Team. Established in 2009 by Fylde Council Leader John Coombes, the Team successfully raised £130,000 to build the RAF Memorial located at Fairhaven Lake, Ansdell. The Hangar 42 visitor Centre is a living History project focusing on the restoration of former WW2 RAF Vehicles, Aircraft and Ground Support equipment. In 2017 the Group has turned its focus from the Hangar refurbishment programme to that of locating and returning an airworthy WW2 RAF Aircraft to the former RAF Squires Gate Airfield.
