BBMF Douglas DC-3/C-47 Skytrain Flypasts @ Blackpool & Lytham
Filmed at Blackpool Airshow and Lytham St Anne's 1940s weekend.
The Douglas C-47 Dakota is without doubt one of the most successful aircraft designs in history. It became one of the world's most famous military transport aircraft and saw widespread use by the Allies during World War Two and subsequently by Air Forces and civilian operators worldwide.
The C-47 is a military version of the DC-3 airliner, which first flew in 1935 and was used extensively thereafter by America's airlines. Recognizing the DC-3’s great potential as a military transport, the United States Army Air Command specified a number of changes needed to make the aircraft suitable for military use, including more powerful engines, the replacement of airline seating with utility seats along the walls, a stronger load-bearing floor and the addition of large loading doors. Deliveries of the military version of the DC-3, which was designated C-47 ‘Skytrain’ in the United States, commenced in October 1941. When production finally ended, a remarkable 10,692 DC-3/C-47 aircraft had been built.

Volunteering with the Lytham St Annes Spitfire Display Team - Hangar 42, Blackpool Airport
In July 2015 the Lytham St Annes Spitfire Display Team took over the lease of Hangar 42, Blackpool Airport. This original Bellman Hangar was constructed in 1939 and survived only due to its mothballed, but delapdated state. Volunteers make up the ranks of the Lytham St Annes Spitfire Ground Display Team. Established in 2009 by Fylde Council Leader John Coombes, the Team successfully raised £130,000 to build the RAF Memorial located at Fairhaven Lake, Ansdell. The Hangar 42 visitor Centre is a living History project focusing on the restoration of former WW2 RAF Vehicles, Aircraft and Ground Support equipment. In 2017 the Group has turned its focus from the Hangar refurbishment programme to that of locating and returning an airworthy WW2 RAF Aircraft to the former RAF Squires Gate Airfield. BBMF D-Day Douglas C47/DC3 'Dakota' flypast at Lytham Green's 1940s weekend
