It is the main tourist resort on the island of Phuket, and is the center of Phuket's nightlife and shopping. The beach became popular with Western tourists, especially Europeans, in the late 1980s. Numerous hotels are located there and the area has expanded into a tourist Mecca... Patong Beach is famous for its nightlife and 3.5 kilometres (2.2 mi) beach that runs the entire length of Patong's west side. Nightlife is centered in two main areas, Bangla Road and the Paradise Complex...

Phuket (Thai: ภูเก็ต, IPA: [pʰuːkɛt]; formerly known as Tha-Laang or Talang, or Junk Ceylon in Western sources, a distortion of the Malay Tanjung Salang, i.e. Cape Salang)[1] is one of the southern provinces (changwat) of Thailand. Neighbouring provinces are (from north clockwise) Phang Nga and Krabi, but as Phuket is an island there are no land boundaries.
Phuket, which is approximately the size of Singapore, is Thailands largest island. The island is connected to mainland Thailand by a bridge. It is situated off the west coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea. The region has an area of approximately 570sq. km. and is made up of 1 large and 39 small islands. Phuket formerly derived its wealth from tin and rubber.[citation needed] The island was on one of the major trading routes between India and China, and was frequently mentioned in foreign traders ship logs. The region now derives much of its income from tourism.
The Phuket International Airport is located in the north of the island. There are many scheduled flights and chartered flights from domestics and other countries in Asia, Australia, Europe and North America landing in Phuket.
There is no rail-line to Phuket, but the trains do run to nearby Surat Thani. Songthaews (passenger pick-up vehicles) are a common mode of transport on Phuket. Phukets songthaews are larger[citation needed] than those found in other areas of Thailand. They travel between the town and beaches. There are also conventional bus services and motorbike taxis. The latter are found in large numbers in the main town and at Patong Beach. The traditional Tuk-tuks have been replaced by small vans, mostly red or some are yellow. Songthaews are the cheapest mode of transportation for travel from town to town.

The main goal was to visit the famous places in Phuket Island. The best way to do it is to rent a motorcycle, it's fast, cheap and ... hm almost safe :-) The feeling to ride in this crowded traffic is exhilarating. Take care! :-)

Phuket Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Phuket
This isn’t surprising considering Phuket is surrounded on all sides by the Andaman Sea. In fact, stay in any of its beautiful beach towns and you’ll be a fishing line away from many seafood restaurants, not to mention Italian pizzerias and sushi bars! Yes, Phuket can be touristy.
I love seafood so I didn’t mind getting my fill, but I was happy to find that there’s so much more to Phuket cuisine than just fresh seafood. Interestingly, traditional Phuket food is characterized by a blend of foreign influences, much of shaped during its time as a destination port in the China-India trade route. You just have to get off the beach and go to the Old Town to find it.

PHUKET
................
Phuket island was on one of the main trading routes between India and China and has been frequently mentioned in foreign trader's ship logs. Most beaches are on the west coast, with Phuket Town to the southeast and the airport in the north west.
WHAT TO DO
......................
Kata -- occupied, clean tourist beaches with great surf, divide into Kata Yai and Kata Noi Beaches
Nai Thon and Nai Yang -- 2 silent beaches at Sirinat National Park
Patong -- the biggest beach hotel famous for its night life
Phuket Town -- the administrative centre of the state, along with the island's Most Important population center
Rawai -- place off stage for plenty of local islands, popular with locals for ingestion on the front
Surin -- an up-and-coming up-market destination
One day excursions to the islands around Phuket
It's possible to charter ship to all those islands out of Rassada pier or Chalong pier but might be too pricey, so to purchase the 1 day excursion is a fantastic idea.
Food in Phuket is amazingly cosmopolitan, particularly in Patong, as most foreigners have setup shop to appeal to their own fellow travelers. All of the normal Thai favourites are of course still available, with a specific emphasis on fish. See the individual city articles for comprehensive listings.
Phuket has its own type of cooking and preparation.
Some interesting Regional dishes include:
Fried or boiled noodle meals (หมี่ผัดหรือหมี่น้ำแบบต่าง ๆ), generally using poultry or pork, can be found at several noodle shops in town including Mi Ton Pho, Mi Sapam, Mi Ao Ke, Mi Hun Pa Chang.
Khanom Jin (ขนมจีน), a variant of noodles consumed at breakfast, generally served with a hot curry sauce and fresh vegetables.
The nuts can be found fried, dried, or coated.
Phuket pineapples are yummy, firm and sweet.
An tourist hub for neighboring islands, e.g.,
Ko Hong, Ko Poda and Rai Leh
Khao Lak -- family-oriented hotel region that's made an impressive comeback following the tsunami
Khao Sok National Park -- among the most beautiful wildlife reserves in Thailand
Ko Lanta -- 3.5 hours from ferry, yet another island destination, gaining more fame
Ko Phayam -- arguably Thailand's most beautiful little island, 20 minutes by boat in Ranong airport
Ko Phi Phi -- 1.5 hours by ferry, portions of The Beach were filmed in this stunningly lovely place
Krabi -- provincial capital of Krabi Province that functions as a transportation hub to a lot of shores
Rai Leh -- 2.5 hours from ferry, departure Ko Phi Phifamous for the rock climbing
Similan Islands -- national park comprising nine little paradise islands. Hugely popular with divers as a result of incredible underwater scenery.

Phuket island was on one of the main trading routes between India and China and has been frequently mentioned in foreign trader's ship logs. Recently, however, Phuket's top earner has been tourism, which has transformed the island into Thailand's wealthiest province. Expect prices to be a little higher than on the mainland. The west coast of Phuket was hit badly by the Indian Ocean tsunami of December 2004, but almost no signs of the damage now stays. Most beaches are on the west coast, with Phuket Town to the southeast and the airport in the north west.

Trip to Soi Dog Phuket
It is my great pleasure and honor to have been invited by John Dalley to visit the Soi Dog Foundation in Phuket, Thailand and share the success of the Yulin 2016, No Dog Left Behind Rescue Mission, with members of his team, prior to my returning to the USA. Soi Dog exemplifies world class rescue. I spent the last 8 months fighting against cruelty in China and experienced first-hand the challenges of rescue on a global platform. Soi Dog was there when I needed them the most, without question or judgment. It is critical that the world understands who the reputable and true rescue organizations are in order to support their efforts in many different ways. This short video is a taste of world-class rescue. Soi Dog truly puts the dogs’ welfare first in all that they do.
One way you can help is to donate to Soi Dog

Cashew Nut Factory Phuket Thailand
It's just a little glimpse of the Cashew Nut Factory Phuket Thailand
Our time at The Soi Dog Foundation Phuket 2015
THINGS TO DO IN PHUKET THAILAND - Live Sex on Bangla Road, Phuket Old Town, Kata Beach
We spent one day searching for the best things to do in Phuket Thailand! Although we were surprised to find live sex shows on Bangla Road, we can highly recommend the area for a dose of crazy Phuket nightlife. Our favorite things to do in Phuket Thailand were exploring the beautiful Phuket Old Town and catching an amazing sunset on the world renowned Kata Beach.
So you only have one day in Phuket Thailand? Look no further, here is your one day in Phuket travel guide which includes the 3 best spots in Phuket. Spend your morning exploring Phuket Old Town with a latte in hand as old town is home to a wide variety of hip cafes and coffee shops. Walk around Phuket Old Town’s colorful and historic streets while snapping some of the best instagram photos of your trip. There is also a ton of street art that you shouldn’t miss while exploring Phuket.
Next stop is to visit what has been called the best beach in Thailand by many travelers, sun lovers, and beginner surfers alike. Unlike it’s neighbors Karon Beach and Patong Beach, Kata Beach is a little less crowded while still offering great Phuket attractions like parasailing, surfing and sun bathing. After an afternoon of soaking in the sun, this Southern Thailand beach is particularly great for watching the sunset light up the sky with pink and purple hues. The sun sets right beside a limestone rock formation making this a must-see sunset destination while exploring Phuket.
Last but certainly not least we recommend soaking in a one of a kind Patong nightlife experience by walking on Bangla Road. Also called Patong Walking Street, live sex on Bangla Road is a popular Phuket attraction that we stayed as far away from as possible. There are promoters lining the streets inviting you to watch the best ping pong show, which is something we can’t even fathom. If you decide to partake in this part of Thailand’s dark nightlife, more power to you, but either way it’s something you just can’t miss. You’ll be happy to have went to Patong Beach and said “I did it”… and you’ll have a lifelong story to tell, especially if it’s your first time in Thailand!
We hope you enjoyed this Phuket travel vlog. We have a new Thailand travel vlog on the way so make sure you’re subscribed to see more content like this! Check out our new installment on IGTV and follow us there for behind the scenes footage and never before seen travel vlog clips. Seeya in the next one!
