Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail Hike| Traveling Vlog | Nepali Brewboy Channel
The Makapuu Lighthouse Trail, also known as the Kaiwi Scenic Shoreline, is the second most popular of all the Oahu hiking trails, next to the Diamond Head Hike. This easy to moderate summit trail is definitely one of the most memorable, with stunning views overlooking Makapuu Beach, Koko Head, the windward coast, and Molokai & Lanai neighboring islands. You will also discover some exciting points of interest along the way including Makapuu Point, old military pillboxes, giant tide pools, a hidden blowhole, and the popular Makapuu lighthouse landmark.
The Makapuâu Point trail, within Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline, offers outstanding views of Oâahuâs southeastern coastline, including Koko Head and Koko Crater. From the trailâs destination at Makapuâu Head, one is rewarded with magnificent views of the windward coast and offshore islets, as well as the historic red-roofed Makapuâu Lighthouse built in 1909, which makes a stunning picture against the deep blue sea below (the lighthouse itself is off-limits). On a clear day, you may even see Molokaâi and Lanaâi. The offshore islets are wildlife sanctuaries for Hawaiian seabirds, such as the âiwa, frigate bird, and tropicbird. This trail is an excellent place to view migrating humpback whales in season (November â May). Binoculars are suggested for viewing the whales and seabirds. An interpretive sign and viewing scope along the trail help you view and identify the whales seen from this location.
This portion of the island tends to be hot and dry and the vegetation includes low-growing kiawe and panini (cactus). The trail is exposed and is usually sunny and hot. It can be very windy at the summit. A hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water are recommended. Give yourself about 2 hours to enjoy this hike and itâs wonderful views.

Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Trail 30.03.2015 Hawaii Hiking GoPro HERO4 Silver (Oahu)
The Makapuu Point Light on the island of Oahu has the largest lens of any lighthouse in the United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
This is a moderate 2 miles (3.2 km) hike. Although paved it is quite steep in spots. No shade and no outhouse or restroom facilities exist. An A.M. start is advised to beat the heat. Bring water and wear sunscreen. Parking is along the street. Unusual cacti are along the trail.
The experience and view is said to be worth the walk. However, the parking area is a high theft area and is posted accordingly; leaving valuables in the car is ill-advised.
HERO4
GoPro Hero 4 Silver Edition.
In September 2014 GoPro announced the HERO4, available in Black Edition and Silver Edition, which replace their respective HERO3+ generation predecessors. The Hero, a budget camera, was also announced.
The HERO4 Silver Edition[44] is basically a HERO4 Black Edition with the addition of a micro speaker, touch screen, the first GoPro with this, a lower clocked Cortex-A9 and missing the Black Editions integrated Analog-to-digital converter which supports a wider variety of professional low-sensitivity external mics. [45] The video modes supported by the HERO4 Silver Edition are similar to those of the HERO3+ Black, due to the higher processing speed and thermal requirements of 4K video (3840×2160), but it supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and contains the same [46][47] Ambarella A9[48] SoC as in the HERO4 Black.
The HERO4 models maintains the H.264 video codec of previous versions and MP4 file formats. GoPro claims the mono microphone in both the Black and Silver Editions have twice the dynamic range of the HERO3+, and that the HERO4 Black and Silver Editions have improved low light performance.

The eastern most point of Oahu is occupied by Makapu'u Lighthouse and the hiking trail up to it. In December to February it's also a great place to do some whale watching as Humpback and Blue whales birth and raise their calves in the waters here.

A parking area offers access to the trailhead. Follow the trail as it climbs up the western side of the ridge. Upon reaching the top of the ridge (about the halfway point), the trail switches back to the north, following the eastern side of the ridge. At this point it levels out somewhat, but still climbs gradually to the summit, where a pair of guard-railed lookouts offer panoramic vistas. To return, retrace your route.

Places to see in ( Oahu - USA ) Makapuu Lighthouse
This is an opportunity for a hugely scenic, hilly trail run on a wide, paved path. The trail runs nearly 2 miles one-way from just off the Kalanianaole Highway to the red-roofed Makapu‘u Lighthouse, which was built in 1909. There great views of the coast and islets. Note this is a 500 foot gain over about 2 miles, one-way. For a longer run, you can also take the Kaiwi Shoreline Trail (1.4 miles one-way), That virgin undertaking at the southeastern-most point of Oahu, and I’m hooked, line, sinker and all! I revel in the crowds and excitement on the trail, and parking is easy with recent improvements by the state. Here’s why this trail holds such a draw. It’s not the Lighthouse, because you only see the picturesque structure crowned in red and the white fence leading up to it from a distance. The hike actually wends it way to the top of a hill, bypassing and rising above the off-limits path to the Lighthouse itself.
What’s attractive about the hike is: One, it’s a short ascent, just under a mile. Two, the view at the top is breathtaking, of the scenic shoreline of Makapu’u beach stretching toward the North Shore, of southeastern Oahu including the inside of Koko Crater with its distinctly eroded lip, and of off shore islands, crystal tide pools and waves breaking dramatically against the base of the cliff far below. Three, there’s great fluke-slapping, geyser-spouting, wondrously breeching aquatic giants in them thar waters below.
The stunning Ka Iwi shoreline is now my most frequent morning outing. The wide, paved path is lined with cactuses and windblown brush. As you round the bend for the final stretch to the top of the hill, look up to the left and see a number of WWII pillboxes peaking out of the landscape. Toward the summit, marked by two lookout points, a plaque is dedicated to nine naval aviators who crashed into the hillside in 1942. Meanwhile, the entire stretch offers gorgeous, show-stopping views of the coast and the dreamy, deep blue sea stretching to the horizon.
From Waikiki, take Kalakaua Avenue to Diamond Head Road. Follow the signs for H1 freeway going east. H1 quickly turns into Kalanianaole Highway. Go past Hawaii Kai, Hanauma Bay, Sandy Beach and Hawaii Kai Golf Course. About a mile past the golf course, turn right onto Makapuu Lighthouse Road, entering an open gate marked by a sign that reads “Ka Iwi Scenic Shoreline.”
