Mall of Africa is a shopping mall located in Waterfall City, Midrand, Gauteng. It is the largest single phase shopping mall to be built in Africa. The total retail area is 131 000 square metres, and a gross area of 550 000 square metres. The shopping mall has two main levels of shopping as well as an outside restaurant area which connects directly to the Waterfall City Park.
History:
Mall of Africa was incepted to be the centrepiece of Waterfall City, an upcoming mixed-use development located in Midrand, Gauteng. Located between Johannesburg and Pretoria the Mall and Waterfall is easily accessible to most of Gauteng. Construction began in 2012 and was originally planned to open in March 2016, but was later slated to April 2016.

Eastgate Shopping Centre is a super-regional shopping centre based in Bedfordview, near Bedford Gardens and Johannesburg City Centre in Gauteng province.
Eastgate was Johannesburg's first 'super-regional' shopping centre. When it opened in 1979, it was the largest shopping centre in the southern hemisphere. It remains one of the largest centres in the country, and is the fourth largest shopping centre in the Gauteng, after Sandton City , Mall of Africa and Menlyn Park. The centre lies next to the R24 airport freeway, between the Johannesburg CBD and O. R. Tambo International Airport.

We spent the afternoon at Sandton City, a huge shopping complex that is adjacent to Nelson Mandela Square. In the Square, you can also find the Sandton Public Library, which is very nice.
If you have a long layover or, like us, are stuck at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, you can easily go into the city by taking the Gautrain, a commuter train. Most of the stops are in residential areas, but if you want to do a bit of shopping, see a movie, etc., take the Gautrain from OR Tambo to Sandton City. You'll have to buy a Gold Card, which costs a one-time fee of 11 Rand, then add value to the card. A one-way trip from OR Tambo to Sandton City costs 115 Rand per person, which is pricey but still cheaper than taking a taxi.
If you're staying at the Garden Court Hotel, which provides a free shuttle bus service to and from OR Tambo Airport, take the Gautrain back to Rhodesfield Station, which is one stop before the airport. This will cost you just 27 Rand (compared to 115!)! The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from Rhodesfield Station. We strongly suggest that you take this option during daylight hours. If your shopping trip extends into the night, then we recommend that you pay the extra money to take the Gautrain to the airport then ride the free shuttle bus to the hotel, which is the safest option.

Attempted kidnapping incident which occurred in Gauteng.
Don't for 1 second fool yourself that kidnapping or child abduction is not a reality in South Africa. It is.
The other 2 male suspects in the video appear to be accomplices.

In Mall of the South yesterday (26 July 2016) a man tried to take my 2 year old daughter out of my trolley. When she noticed she didn't know the person picking her up she immediately said mommy.
That's when I looked. At that moment this man made it seem like he was helping her sit properly in the trolley, which in fact seemed like it could have been the case, because she had stood up a few times in the trolley.
My instinct told me otherwise, and I went to get the camera footage this morning.
My worst nightmare nearly came true... please please watch your kiddies closely in the shops...
I dont know what I would have done if he'd taken her... ????
