Manly City Centre - Manly NSW - Sydney Australia
Manly is a beach-side suburb of northern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is 17 kilometres (11 mi) north-east of the Sydney central business district. Manly has a long-standing reputation as a tourist destination, owing to its attractive setting on the Pacific Ocean and easy accessibility by ferry.
Manly is most notable for its beaches which are popular tourist destinations. Manly features a long stretch of sand on the ocean side, that runs from Queenscliff through North Steyne to South Steyne . This is followed by rock pools and sandy beaches called Fairy Bower and Shelly Beach. There are also a number of beaches on the harbour side of the peninsula. Norfolk Island pine trees are symbolic of Manly and are a prominent feature of both the ocean and harbour beaches.
The commercial Manly is centred around The Corso, which runs from the harbour side at Manly wharf to the ocean side at Manly Beach. Part of The Corso is a mall which allows outdoor dining for cafes and restaurants. The commercial area extends to surrounding streets with more cafes and restaurants concentrated along the ocean and harbour shores.
The Corso is one of the main streets and a pedestrian mall in Manly. It connects the Manly ferry wharf to Manly Beach on the Pacific Ocean side of the Manly peninsula.
Transport services to Manly include a ferry service from Manly wharf and State Transit bus services to the city and other suburbs. The Manly Ferry journey takes 30 minutes and allows for scenic views of Sydney Harbour, surrounding national parks and Sydney icons including the Harbour Bridge and Opera House.
Manly has Sydney Harbour on its western side with calm water, ferry wharf, a swimming area, the Oceanworld Manly aquarium and sailing and yacht clubs. About 300 metres (1,000 ft) to the east is the Pacific Ocean and Manly Beach. There are more than 20 kilometres (12 mi) of cycle tracks that can be used to explore the area.

My Travel Diary 2018
MANLY WINE
On a sunny weekend Sydney siders flock to Manly. The friendly peninsula is known for its relaxed holiday vibes and fantastic dining options. It’s the Bondi of the North but arguably even better as your spoilt with both harbourside restaurants and beachfront eateries.
We spend the morning on the beachside. The golden stretch of sand is busy with locals and a whole bunch of visitors here to see the parade of VW kombis lined up on the promenade. The atmosphere is electric and mother earth is putting on a brilliant show with a flawless blue sky and a perfect 27’. Before we know it, it’s lunch time and we head Manly Wine for a casual bite at an old favourite.
The atmosphere at Manly Wine is best described as a relaxed summer beach house. Ceiling soar above comfortable banquets, it’s bright and breezy with white shiplap walls punctuated with a fun seaside palette of yellows, blues and even pink.
We love the fact that no matter where you sit you can look out to the heavenly strip of blue sea and watch the beach goers enjoy the weekend.
The seafood driven menu is fitting given the sparking waterfront location and we order lots of plates to share.
After ordering, the dishes arrive together as we requested and it’s a ridiculously good spread. It’s also worth mentioning the staff are incredibly friendly, so we give full points on service.
The mushroom poppers are delightful. Your teeth break through the the crunchy crumbed exterior to a juicy field mushroom infused with truffled parmesan. Seriously good.
The lobster roll is also substantial and the tea smoked king trout is as you would expect and looks beautiful plated up.
The split and grilled Yamba prawns are also a delectable favourite. The Smokey grilled flavour is ridiculously moorish with the gentle hint of heat from the chipotle. The warm spice is offset with fresh lime juice, it’s a real winner and all the serves are a good size to share.
Our camera man Rad has a burger and coke which seems to be his standard order when he’s on our shoots and all reports are encouraging with the mmms and ahhhhs of satisfaction.
Of course, true to form we order a side of chips which is the WTE naughty standard and they are amazing. The perfect chunkier cut is what we love and all this is delicious food is washed down with a glass of crisp, chilled vino.
Outfits guides for this venue is simple.
You can afford to dress up a little but use a beachside palette for your inspo. Whites, pastels, maybe pops of bright yellow or a rusty pink. Navy and white stripe is definitely an option and we suggest a loose and unstructured silhouette. Boho or floaty frills would be perfect for this spot and if you love linen this is exactly where you’d wear it!
Manly is fairly low key generally so you can dress casual if you really have to!
