Maracas Beach is a beach on the island of Trinidad. It is located on the north side of the island, an hour's mountainous drive from the capital city of Port of Spain. Unlike many of the northern beaches of Trinidad, Maracas Beach is protected by a deep bay. It is one of the most well known beaches in the island of Trinidad as its considered by some to be the most beautiful beach of its size located closest to the capital city. Maracas Bay is a beach on the island of Trinidad.
It is located on the north side of the island, an hour's mountainous drive from the capital city of Port of Spain via the North Coast Road.
Unlike many of the northern beaches of Trinidad, Maracas Bay is protected by a deep bay. It is one of the most well known beaches in the island of Trinidad as it is considered by some to be the most beautiful beach of its size located relatively close to the capital city.
Start your day with a scenic drive along the North Coast road with the most amazing panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea. Stop at the Maracas Lookout where you can take photos of the surrounding bays and maybe try some local snacks. Continue on the 1.25-mile beach, lined with coconut trees, where waves can reach an average height of 1-meter. Swim, relax or have a cool walk along the sandy shores. Also enjoy the famous bake and fish sandwich.
Probably the most relaxing way to spend a morning or afternoon in Trinidad, this tour allows for an approximate two and a half hours on the beautiful beach at Maracas Bay. The drive leads you through the residential areas of St Clair and Maraval, close to the capital, Port of Spain, before continuing up to the scenic North Coast Road. Along the way you can admire the stunning view of the Paramin Hills to the west with their plantations of herbs and spices, and thick rainforest to the east. Upon reaching the Caribbean Sea, you can take in the most spectacular panoramic view of the ocean. A short stop at the Maracas Lookout gives you the opportunity for some photos of the surrounding bays.The most popular beach in Trinidad, Maracas Bay is surrounded by lush, green rainforest-covered mountains, with a sandy beach lined with coconut trees. This unspoiled Caribbean scenery is free of high-rise hotels and practically untouched by tourism. Taste a famous Bake and Fish, a hot crispy fish sandwich with homemade bread, at you own expense. There are many different sauces from which you can choose, just beware of the very hot pepper. Basic dressing rooms with changing and toilet facilities are available.
On any given Sunday, Maracas Bay is never empty. Its beauty – off white sand, palm trees and blue-green waters – attracts beach lovers to this crescent coast line which stretches for 2 km. Call it a pilgrimage if you will. Making Port of Spain the departure point from the west side, the drive is about 16 km from the capital. From the east traveling through San Juan and via Santa Cruz, the trip may take just under an hour. From either direction stone pillars are the landmarks that welcome you to the North Coast Road. The tumbling waves, with an average height of 1 meter, make it an ideal place for body or board surfing. The expanse of beach is enough to accommodate the sunbather who likes her space or the nature lover who welcomes the sea blast as they set up camp. Maracas Bay has also garnered the reputation for being the lunch spot with an idyllic view. Known as the home of bake and shark, this destination is host to a variety of vendors who prepare the tasty offering. The secret, they say, is in the sauce. Really, the sauce – the tamarind sauce, the pepper sauce, garlic sauce – as these give the edge in deciding the best bake and shark among the huts that sell them.
