Speech by Marshal of the Soviet Union Georgy Zhukov at the Victory Parade in Moscow (1945) - fragment of the documentary «Victory Parade».
The Moscow Victory Parade of 1945 was a victory parade held after the defeat of Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War. It took place in the Soviet capital of Moscow, mostly centering on a military parade through Red Square. The parade took place on a rainy June 24, 1945, over a month after May 9th, the day of Germany's surrender to Soviet commanders.
Marshals Georgy Zhukov, who had formally accepted the German surrender to the Soviet Union, and Konstantin Rokossovsky, rode through the parade ground on white and black stallions, respectively. The fact is commemorated by the equestrian statue of Zhukov in front of the State Historical Museum, on Manege Square.
Marshal of the Soviet Union Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov (1896 - 1974), was a Russian career officer in the Red Army who, in the course of World War II, played a pivotal role in leading the Red Army through much of Eastern Europe to liberate the Soviet Union and other nations from the Axis Powers' occupation and conquer Germany's capital, Berlin. He is the most decorated general in the history of the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation.

USA: RUSSIAN SOLDIER GEORGII KONSTANTINOVICH ZHUKOV IS HONOURED
English/Nat
A Russian soldier considered to be one of the greatest military leaders of his time was honoured Sunday at Arlington National Cemetery in the United States.
Marshal Georgii Konstantinovich Zhukov is best known for his leadership in World War Two.
Two solemn ceremonies commemorating the 100th anniversary of Zhukov's birth were held at the National Cemetery on the outskirts of Washington DC.
A historically unique joint ceremony with U-S and Russian dignitaries on hand took place at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a special place at Arlington National Cemetery symbolising all of the forgotten soldiers.
With Taps being played, the military song in remembrance of the dead, Russian Ambassador to the U-S Yuli Vorontsov laid a wreath honouring Marshal Georgii Zhukov.
Zhukov is one of Russia's most renowned World War Two leaders.
The late Marshal is best remembered for launching the final offensive in the last months of the War which resulted in Germany's unconditional surrender.
A second consecutive ceremony was held at the Elbe River Crossing Monument which is about 100 yards away from the first wreath laying.
Vorontsov told the crowd of diplomats that Marshal Zhukov will not and should not ever be forgotten.
SOUNDBITE:
Old soldiers don't die, they just fade away. How true and how applicable to Marshall Zhukov. But I only dare to add our grateful memory of him and his accomplishment will never die nor fade away.
SUPER CAPTION: Yuli Vorontsov, Russian Ambassador to the US
Marshal Zhukov was daring and decisive, traits the Ambassador believes Joseph Stalin needed to protect Russia...and traits that U-S General Dwight Eisenhower admired.
Zhukov's desire to cultivate and maintain a good relationship between Russia and the U- S was very important.
He succeeded and the Ambassador indicated that the relationship is still visible 50 years later.
SOUNDBITE:
Today Russia and the United States once again are learning to co-operate for mutual benefits, for the good of humanity. Today, reinvigorating the legacy of Marshall Zhukov and General Eisenhower's personal friendship, President Yeltsin and President Clinton lead our countries into the twenty-first century as partners.
SUPER CAPTION: Yuli Vorontsov, Russian Ambassador to the US
A second wreath was laid by Zhukov's wife, Mrs. Era Zhukova, and Ambassador John Eisenhower, the late General's son.
Zhukov's daughter, Mrs. Ella Zhukova was touched by the remembrance of her father.
SOUNDBITE:
All through his life he used every opportunity to stress the importance of the allied contribution and he also made a friend. The name of his friend was General Dwight Eisenhower, and my father was very proud to pin the highest military award of the Soviet Union, the Order of Victory onto the chest of General Eisenhower.
SUPER CAPTION: Mrs. Ella Georgievna Zhukova
Zhukov's daughter has been instrumental in the erection of a monument to her late father.
The monument stands in Manezh Square in Moscow.

Russia: Putin and Zhukov discuss Russia's performance at Rio Olympics
Russian President Vladimir Putin held a working meeting with President of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov in Moscow, Wednesday, to discuss the results of the Russian athletes at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russian): Alexander Dmitrievich, we have already discussed the outcome of the Olympic Games with the [Russian] Sports Ministry, with the government and sports federations. But we have agreed to meet separately and discuss this topic in your capacity as head of our National Olympic Committee.
SOT, Alexander Zhukov, President of the Russian Olympic Committee (Russian): In general, I believe that our [Olympic] team performed successfully. In such difficult conditions most of our sports federations managed to prepare very good teams. And the athletes expressed their desire to win in a difficult situation, and showed their skills. I think that the outcome of the Olympic Games is very good.
SOT, Alexander Zhukov, President of the Russian Olympic Committee (Russian): In my opinion, the main outcome of the Olympic Games is a huge interest in sports in many of our regions. Our Olympians have already returned home and it is important how warmly our medallists were welcomed back home and how many children follow their example and go to do sports. I think it is a wonderful moment.
SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russian): A very important part of sporting results is that they have a sort of ‘prolongation’ effect in sports. It generates interest in sports and a healthy lifestyle.
