Let's explore Sendai City...
We start, as many do, in front of Sendai (train) Station. We then hop onto the Sendai City Loop Bus (Loople Sendai) and ride the bus out of the heart of city, up to the location of Aoba Castle. Where there are terrific views over the city skyline below.
We head back into the city centre to see some folks taking photos with a group of samurai warrior cosplayers. Finally, we take a walk down Asaichi Market street and check out the rich selection of foods they have for sale.
I hope you enjoy your spring day exploring Sendai City. If you did please leave a comment below!

My name is Rob Dyer. I was born in England and have been exploring Japan since 2000. In 2001 I married my Japanese wife in a traditional ceremony in a Shinto Shrine.
My wife and I now split my time between Japan and the UK.
As The Real Japan, I share inspiration and resources for discovering and exploring Japan beyond the cliches - The Real Japan. I have a passion for those off-the-beaten track places and I love to share my experiences. If you're really serious about discovering and exploring The Real Japan, I've personally put together a free guide to Amazing Adventures in Japan that you really need to get a copy of. In that guide I cover 5 (actually there's 6 - but don't tell anyone!) unforgettable adventures in Japan, spanning the northern most and coldest island of Hokkaido, through the main island of Honshu, and down to the sub-tropical southern island of Okinawa. BRL: お正月 2015 (New Year in Japan)
► The main idea behind this video was to show the contrast between New Years in the west and how it's celebrated in Japan. The original plan was to go to Meiji-Jingumei by Yoyogi Park as it's one the biggest temples in Japan and millions folk there to bring in the new year.
However, while walking back home, I stumbled upon a local shrine near my place which was celebrating new years in the way that thousands of smaller shrines do across Japan. After a quick look inside I figured I should grab my camera and take a few shots. After returning a few shots turned into an hour or so filming followed by me rushing home to put the edit together.
I did end up getting up early and going to Meiji Jingumei, but it was a little bit of a let down. At 7:00am everyone had either queued in the night and gone home or were at home. The crowds were mainly old folk, tourists and a handful of really drunk Japanese teenagers who had stumbled in from the previous night out, so not quite the authentic Japanese vibe I was after.

JR Sendai Station (JR 仙台駅), Sendai city, Japan
Sendai (仙台) is the capital city of Miyagi prefecture in Japan. It is also one of the largest cities in Japan. JR Sendai station (JR 仙台駅) is in the center of the city and is one of the large stations on JR East Railways. Major Shinkansens (Bullet Trains) that travel in the Northeast (Tohoku) region all stop at Sendai. Around Sendai are two large shopping avenues (Aoba-dori and Ichibancho) are Sendai's version of Ginza shopping district in Tokyo.
Sendai suffered a devastating Tsunami as a result of the Great Japan Earthquake in March 2011. The tsunami devastated a large section of the coastline but spared the center of the city. While the Sendai Airport was hit by the Tsunami (because it is closer to the coast) the Sendai Train Station is spared. Now the Sendai city is trying to get back to normal with all it's vigor and vitality.
Enjoy.
