A Spectacular Bike Tour from the Mountains to Mazatlan
The Annual Vagabundos de la Montaña Durango-Mazatlan Cycling Journey is an important national cycling journey. This year, the seven-time consecutive winner of the Tour de France, Lance Armstrong, led close to 500 participants from 29 Mexican states and countries from the U.S., France, Italy and Spain who pedaled through the Sierra Madre Mountains and crossed over the new Baluarte Bridge -- the world's highest cable-stayed bridge. After the challenging 220 mile journey, local residents cheered the professional cyclists as they arrived to the welcoming sounds of traditional banda music and a festive atmosphere.
Mazatlan, Mexico - Port of Mazatlan HD (2014)
Mazatlán is a city in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. The city serves as the municipal seat for the surrounding municipio, known as the Mazatlán Municipality. It is located at 23°13′N 106°25′W on the Pacific coast, across from the southernmost tip of the Baja California peninsula.
Mazatlán is a Nahuatl word meaning place of deer. The city was founded in 1531 by an army of Spaniards and indigenous settlers. By the mid-19th century a large group of immigrants had arrived from Germany. These new citizens developed Mazatlán into a thriving commercial seaport, importing equipment for the nearby gold and silver mines. It served as the capital of Sinaloa from 1859 to 1873. The German settlers also influenced the local music, banda, which is an alteration of Bavarian folk music. The settlers also established the Pacifico Brewery on March 14, 1900.
With a population of 438,434 (city) and 489,987 (municipality) as of the 2010 census, Mazatlán is the second-largest city in the state. It is also a popular tourist destination, with its beaches lined with resort hotels. A car ferry plies its trade across the Gulf of California from Mazatlán to La Paz, Baja California Sur. The municipality has a land area of 3,068.48 km² (1,184.75 sq mi) and includes smaller outlying communities such as Villa Unión, La Noria, El Quelite, El Habal and many other small villages. Mazatlán is served by Gral. Rafael Buelna International Airport.
Short Tour of Old Mazatlan
I haven't had much reason to go to Mazatlan. The RV park I have been in on the Isla de la Piedra has pretty much everything that I need. And I had not intention of going to the Golden Zone where all the hotels and other tourists are. Old Mazatlan is laid back and over all just a beautiful area to chill and explore for a day. I took the water taxi over with a friend and then we got bikes and explored the sites.

Mountain Biking in Mazatlan Mexico with Rudy Valdez
Wonderful sunrise ride in Mazatlan Mexico. Took a 30-50 KM loop through jungle all the way to the beach. I would highly recommend this as a must while visiting Mazatlan. Rode on brand new never used bikes and provided my wife and I with everything needed to complete the ride.
