Places to see in ( Huntingdon - UK )
Huntingdon is a market town in Cambridgeshire, England. The town was chartered by King John in 1205. Huntingdon is the traditional county town of Huntingdonshire and the seat of the Huntingdonshire district council.
Huntingdon is well known as the birthplace of Oliver Cromwell, who was born in 1599 and was the member of parliament (MP) for the town in the 17th century. The George Hotel, on the corner of High Street and George Street was once a posting house. It was named after St. George in 1574 and was bought some 25 years later by Henry Cromwell, grandfather of Oliver Cromwell. Charles I made The George his headquarters in 1645. Later Dick Turpin is reputed to have been a visitor when it was a coaching inn on the Great North Road.
Huntingdon lies on the north bank of the River Great Ouse, opposite Godmanchester and close to the market town of St Ives in the east and the village of Brampton in the west. Huntingdon now incorporates the village of Hartford to the east, and the developing areas of Oxmoor, Stukeley Meadows and Hinchingbrooke to the north and west. Between Godmanchester, Huntingdon and Brampton lies England's largest meadow, Portholme Meadow.
Huntingdon is home to many local businesses, including a local Horseracing Course, Huntingdon Racecourse. Hinchingbrooke Business Park has many offices and warehouses located in it. Huntingdon railway station has direct services to London Kings Cross station. It is served by Great Northern.

Exploring an abandoned football stadium
I stumbled across this abandoned football stadium so decided to have a look around
Abandoned Football Stadium - Kettering Town FC URBEX
The Stadium, of which was the previous home of Kettering Town FC closed down in 2010 (We visited in December 2015), and has not been used since. The stadium has since gone into disrepair.
It is clear to see that even after the closing of the property, the love for the club and it's home ground still exist to this day. This can be seen from the various words spray painted onto the walls.
--
Me and my mate David (Of which I was also with when I was recording) have planned to go to the Stadium for a while because it is local to us. After a lot of planning, we finally thought it was time to go!

Midland Red Film Find
Midland Red Film Find
In 1967, a wood-lined metal case containing reels of 35mm film, was found in the vaults of Nuneaton Council House. At that time, I was Chairman of our local film society and I had the opportunity of looking into this box to find out its contents. On examination and with help from our local cinema manager, we found out that most of the films were of Nuneaton carnivals between 1932 and 1938. There was a smaller reel that, on examination, turned out to be nothing to do with carnivals. Instead, it contained a film of an outing to Wicksteed Park in August 1932 that had been arranged by the Red Rovers Club, a social club of the Midland Red Omnibus Company. After showing the film on the cinema screen one Sunday, the films were sealed, placed back in the box and forgotten.
In 1980, the Curator of the Nuneaton Museum contacted me because he had found this box on the local rubbish dump. I had written a report on the contents in the box, and he wanted to know whether there was anything we could do to save the film. The problem was that the films had been made on nitrate film stock and was highly inflammable. At that time, I knew a man who was experimenting to convert old films onto the then new medium called video-tape. I went to see him and after some experimentation, we managed to transfer the film image onto video- tape. The film shows scenes of many models of Midland Red in 1932 leaving Nuneaton with children waving their arms out of the windows, and in the case of the char-a-banc coaches, over the top of the drivers' windscreen. It also shows scenes of the vehicles going along the road on their way to Wicksteed Park. The rest of the film shows scenes of Wicksteed Park (near Kettering) a theme park with miniature railways and other attractions. The film sequence closes with an egg and spoon and three-legged races carried out by the drivers and conductors, employees of the Midland Red Company, and a quick scene of the return home. The film ran for approximately fourteen and a half minutes and was silent. At a later time, after some research, I added a sound track in keeping with the old thirties newsreels. The film was shown around the town at various social clubs, along with the carnival films, as a look into the local history of the town.
Here then are six still scenes from that film. These pictures have never been seen before and so we are looking into the past at buses as they were in 1932. A review of these films and an article of how I managed to transfer them onto video also appeared in the Midland Red's own newspaper in 1984.

B of the Bang Demolition 2 Eastlands Manchester City Football ground Sports City
Demolition of the B of the Bang at Eastlands Sports City, next to Manchester City football ground. Thank God it's coming down. The £1.42 million should have been spend on something better and for something that was going to be a feature for more than just 4 years! What do you think?
The Haunted Location Of Lings Wood
Rob, Sam, and Abi head inside Lings Wood; located within the eastern district of Northampton, England. These woods have been rumoured to home many paranormal stories over the years so it's time to head inside and see if any come true. In 2002, a man was found dead with a shoe lace around his neck. Although inconclusive, it was ruled a suicide but to this day, he has never been identified. Will he show himself?
