8 days budget family trip for 7 to Vietnam
We visited Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Lan Ha Bay & Sapa in 8 days. We slept in Hotels, Trains and a ship. Prices described in the video are in SGD or Singapore currency. All food are halal. Gia Huy Hotel in HCMC has halal breakfast with halal street just below. Cosiana hotel has halal restaurant and just next to railway station to Sapa. Only 1 halal restaurant in Sapa - Cosiana. No halal food on cruise and Utopia Eco Lodge - we requested for seafood diet as well as no pork in the food. BBQ at UEL is a special request. Hanoi night market is only from Friday to Sunday. Wet market is only on Monday in Sapa but there's another one on Tuesday. Plan your holiday properly to coincide. You are expected to bargain at Ben Thanh Market - you can go below 50% than original quote or walk away. We booked our own flights and some tours online. We try to coincide the tour with airport pickup. eg, when we arrrive in HCMC at 8.30 am, we started the Cu Chi Tunnel tour which ends at 3pm where they send us too our hotel. We mostly booked a 12 - 16 seater car to accommodate our luggage which cost USD15-20 one way. We also kept our big luggage at Cosiana Hanoi when we went to Lan Ha Bay and Sapa. They were nice enough to keep for us for up to 3 nights when we went to Sapa, even though we've already booked out. If you're coming from another hotel, there is a luggage keeping service at the train station. Take note that travel from Hanoi to Lan Ha Bay (Ha Long Bay), which is included in the price of the cruise, is about 3 hours. Take note that Vietjet airlines is very very stringent on luggage allowance, weigh your bags faithfully. There is only 1 train to Sapa, but different companies, each with a few cars. We took Chapa train with SapaO'chau. Go with Chapa cause they have a very nice lounge at the station in Lao Cai with shower facilities cause we had to wait a few hours for train back to Hanoi. There's food and hot drinks & wifi at the lounge. In Sapa, book the tours under SapaO'chau cause they use local minorities to uplift their livelihood & you get an authentic local to interact with. Don't stay in Sapa town throughout your stay in Sapa, try to spend at least one night at the countryside. Warning for Muslim travelers - there's lots and lots of dogs. Pigs also ply the road sometimes in the rural areas. Also, bring winter clothes, we were ill prepared in Sapa but fret not cause many shops selling winter clothes like North Face, Pantagonia etc very very cheap like SGD20. I should have bought more. The cruise included Lunch, Dinner, Breakfast and another Lunch. Activity wise, swimming (goggles, snorkel, lifejacket provided), Kayaking, Springroll lesson and tasting, squid fishing, karaoke, cycling to nearby village & jungle trekking. We enjoyed our trip and hope you do too. Vietnamese are very nice people. They are not only punctual, but early, so, beware. They are also very accepting of tourist.

The Mekong Delta in south-east Vietnam is one of the world’s greatest river regions. The delta is a hive of activity and serves as a crucial transport and agricultural hub. Known as the ‘rice bowl of Vietnam’, this lush and fertile region produces more than enough rice to feed the whole country and also harvests a bountiful supply of sugar cane, coconut and fruit. With verdant rice paddy fields, colourful fruit orchards, enchanting villages and bustling floating markets, it is also an area of incredible beauty. Life thrives on the delta, which is home to hundreds of species of animals and fish, not to mention its human inhabitants. The region is divided by an endless web of streams, rivers and canals and the locals have adapted well to life on the water; travelling, fishing, trading and even sleeping on their sampans and boats, they maintain a very traditional way of life.
The gateway to the Mekong Delta is My Tho which is a market town, famous for its floating market and the largest city in the region is Can Tho.
Those short on time can enjoy a day trip to the Mekong Delta from Ho Chi Minh City and discover the magic of life along the riverbanks aboard a traditional sampan boat, stopping to explore remote villages and islands, learn about local trade and barter for goods at Cai Be floating market. Alternatively see more of this magical region on an overnight cruise or spend a night at a homestay around Vinh Long, to gain a unique insight into local life.

From Hoa Ninh to Can Tho (Mekong Delta) - Vietnam 4K Travel Channel
From Hoa Ninh, we continue by boat for about 2 km. Just before we reach another big branch of the Mekong. Our first stop is Út Thủy Homestay. It is an accommodation with adjoining restaurant. Small pavilions with dining tables line above the shore of a small lake. Our bicycle group arrives and we go for lunch.
But before, I do some film shots of the area and surroundings. Everything leaves a very relaxed impression. Some people lie in hammocks and surf on their laptop or read a book. Others come together to have a joint cup of coffee or a refreshment.
Suddenly a man approaches us and asks us what we are doing here. I tell him that we want to capture the beauty of the location in the video. We learned that he is an American who came to Vietnam with the Office of Strategic Services, in the 1960s. After the war, he returned to the United States. But after retiring from active service, he came back to Vietnam. He likes this place so much that he wants to stay and lets just transferred his boat from the USA. We talk for a while and I film him as a reminder. Then we have to go back to our group.
Our next destination is just a few meters away, so we set out on foot. Here, Út Thủy Homestay runs a company for the production of confectionery.
First, one shows us a small snake. We will learn later what it is used for. Then we experience the production of rice snacks. With simple means, but professional and with skillful hands, the staff bakes, rolls out, cuts, and packages the sweets. They use some devices for rasping coconut and to press for syrup.
A woman makes extremely thin edible rice paper. We noticed it already in the garden, where one puts it to dry. In a different place, a lady packages homemade candies.
In the rear of the farm, you can buy various food. We discover several glass containers filled with liquor in which cobras and other snakes are preserved. Well, it does not meet our taste. Our boat trip continues since we have 3 more hours ahead of us.
