Liminal Teaser
Canadian choreographer Constance Cooke incorporates projections, paper and fans in her upcoming, new, full-length work, Liminal.
The hauntingly ephemeral interdisciplinary work premieres in Victoria at the Metro Studio Theatre on February 20 and 21. Tickets are $20, available online through Ticket Rocket or at the door.
Cooke created the piece with dancers from across Canada: Jung-ah Chung, Kayla Henry, Mark Sawh Medrano, Brett Owen and Renee Sigouin. The performers occupy, explore and transform the performance space in their search for meaning, cohesion and their own personal mythology.
Cooke collaborated with multiple artists to create Liminal’s mixed-media setting, including Pamela Millar, Shirley Grierson, Jenny Farkas, and James Insell.
Cooke’s professional career has spanned over two decades, and her works for stage and screen have been presented in Canada, the U.S., England and Germany. Many consider her work to be provoking, challenging and innovative.
Cooke is the artistic director of the Victoria School of Contemporary Dance and a frequent guest teacher/choreographer for professional training programs and youth companies throughout Canada. Cooke is Head of Contemporary for Victoria Academy Of Ballet. Her former students have gone on to establish their own companies and independent careers and dance with professional companies throughout Canada, the U.S. and Europe.
Liminal received support from the Canada Council for the Arts, the British Columbia Arts Council and Dance Victoria.
