A Mexican Cruise: Tendering in To Cabo San Lucas
None of these monstrous ships can dock in Cabo San Lucas and all passengers have to be tendered in. The Norwegian Star runs smooth as silk and in a little more than one hour, we stood on shore.
Run the gauntlet of salespeople offering parasailing, snorkeling, fishing, glass bottom boats and then the sellers of hats, pottery, holding iguanas to pose with. Never ending and vibrant. The nearest beach is lengthy walk away or take a water taxi for $4 U.S. per person. With less than five hours in port, our family crew was content to just shop for souvenirs, tender back to the ship and hang out by the pool.

Mexican Clay Cooking Pots
It's so much fun to learn new methods of cooking, or living, in Mexico. My neighbor Matt took me by the arm and introduced me to Chuy (OK, some armtwisting occurred) but boy am I glad. These pots are an amazing new cooking technique. Primarily for winter with the comfort food factor, but this summer I'll be experimenting. This is use and care for these pots plus one recipe. Hope you enjoy!
Amazing fingerpaint done in Cabo San Lucas
Quick video of a painting I had commissioned while in Cabo San Lucas. Artist is amazing as you can already tell.. total time from blank canvas to finished product was about 10 minutes, oil took about 3 days to fully dry.

Week 2 – Cabo San Lucas & Todos Santos
Cabo – Day 1-6
Arriving in Cabo was pretty awesome as it was the official start of our World Tour! From the moment we touched down, we couldn't contain our excitement and there were smiles all round. Even as we walked out of the airport there were bars either side, blaring the tunes and people were having shots to get into the party mood. I guess thats what Cabo is known for, Spring Break travellers and partying! We had arrived just after Spring break therefore we were hoping for a more quiet time!
We had already arranged car hire from Mex Rent a Car as we knew that we wanted to explore the Baja and having a car would give us that flexibility. It total cost for 10 days in a medium automatic car was £145.
There are quite a few location options, but the most common and nearest to the airport are San Jose or Cabo San Lucas. We opted for Cabo San Lucas and stayed at Hotel Mar De Cortez, about 10min walk from the Marina.
The Hotel was modest but clean, it had a pool, terrace and a restaurant so kids were happy! We spent our time in Cabo, relaxing and exploring.
The Marina
Is a great place and very central, there are lots of different sized boats with restaurants all around the square. There are many shacks offering various excursions and vendors offering to take you to the famous 'Archo' for $10 (£7.20). It is touristy so you will pay more for meals compared to the street restaurants. It is lovely though, especially as you keep walking towards Medano Beach.
Medano Beach
This is the main beach in Cabo. There is the super busy part by the Mango Deck and then the a more quiet end which is easy to access from the bottom of the Marina. We preferred relaxing at that end.
The Cabo Legend
We did an excursion with the Cabo Legends Pirate Ship for a bit of entertainment for the kids, to see the Arco and to do a spot of snorkelling! It was an amazing day out. It cost $45 (£32.50) per adult and included drinks and food (alcoholic and non), our kids aged 2 and 5 were free. We got close to the Arch and the Captain gave us some information along the way, there was a DJ spinning tunes the whole way and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The snorkelling wasn't great as the water was a little rough and visibility was poor but we would still recommend this excursion as it was super fun.
Cabo Restaurant Recommendations
Tacos Guss – cheap hole in the wall spot where you can get all the Mexican favourites for very low prices 25pesos (£1) for a taco.
La Casitas - A more polished restaurant off the beaten track that serves amazing sushi, wood fired pizzas and other items too. We can also vouch for the salads which were fresh and lovely.
Todos Santos – Day 6-7
We planned in a stop to the small arty town of Todos Santos as it was bang in the middle of our route from Cabo to La Paz and thought it would be a good rest stop. Only 1 hour from Cabo, the drive was easy on highway Mexico 19 And very scenic.
We arrived in Todos Santos on a Sunday and as its pretty religious, the town was very quiet and it seemed that everyone was in the Missiones, praying. The town has a lot of art and cute painted pottery on the streets. It has a Hotel named Hotel California and although some people think there is some connection to the Eagles song, I don't believe there is. There are also some nice beaches about 20min drive from Todos Santos named Playa Cerritos and Playa Pescadero, particularly good if you are a surfer.
A Good Feed!
If you want a hearty breakfast, we recommend heading to Cafe Lix who serve a variety of egg breakfasts, bagels and waffles plus you can actually get a good English Breakfast brew!
**NEXT STOP IS LA PAX & MEXICO CITY**

A Taste of San José del Cabo! Day Trip - CaboViVO Style
| A Taste of San José del Cabo
Thanks to its big-time fishing tournaments and boisterous nightlife, Cabo San Lucas is now the more famous of the two cape cities that largely populate the Los Cabos municipality. But this was not always so. Until the advent of the tourist age some 50 years ago, San José del Cabo was far better known.
Before 1960, there was little in Cabo San Lucas save a cannery and about 300 residents. San José del Cabo, by contrast, has been an important regional community for almost 300 years, since the Jesuits first built a mission there in 1730.
Not only is it the current seat of local government, but it boasts the sort of historic architecture unknown in Cabo San Lucas, from a beautiful old Catholic church to a stately City Hall topped with a nearly century-old old clock tower, and a courtyard filled with murals that trace the history of both the region and the country at large.
Outside City Hall, outlined by an enormous flag and the broad central plaza, lies the Jardín de los Cabeños Ilustres. This is the place of honor reserved for busts and plaques detailing the accomplishments of the area’s most famous residents, including Lt. José Antonio Mijares, whose elevated monument was built on the place he died defending his homeland during the Mexican–American War.
Nowhere, however, is this colonial style city’s beauty shown to greater advantage than in its picturesque and cobblestone studded Distrito del Arte, where each Thursday evening during tourist season galleries throw open their doors to celebrate the seasonal Art Walk.
Like Todos Santos, San José del Cabo has long been noted for its thriving arts community. Aficionados will find works both contemporary and classic, including high-quality painting, sculpture, pottery, glassware and jewelry.
An eye for art is hardly a prerequisite to enjoy the weekly event, however, since the Distrito del Arte is also home to a flourishing drinking and dining scene.
The state’s first microbrewery, Baja Brewing Company, is located in the heart of the Art District, as is one of the region’s finest taquerias, La Lupita Tacos & Mezcal.
The region’s burgeoning farm-to-table movement is also centered in San José del Cabo. Beyond the city streets and the sculpture lined marina at Puerto Los Cabos, acclaimed restaurants like Flora’s Field Kitchen, Acre and Huerta Los Tamarindos are returning Mexican cuisine to its roots. Literally.
The chefs at these bucolic eateries source their organic fruits and vegetables from adjoining fields, their seafood fresh from local waters.
| CaboViVO is your video guide to the breathtaking natural beauty, vibrant culture and boisterous nightlife that make Los Cabos one of the most spectacular and exciting places on earth.
