My Hermann Park Visit #hermannpark #houston
This time I visited one of biggest and most beautiful Park of Houston.
Hermann Park has a bountiful assortment of entertainment: a golf course, an outdoor theater, a jogging track, a beautiful rose garden, picnic spaces, a butterfly exhibit, and even a museum.
Hermann Park, presented to the City of Houston by George Hermann in 1914, is Houston's most historically significant public green space. Over the years, the Houston Zoo, Miller Outdoor Theatre, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, Japanese Garden, Rose Garden and Hermann Park Golf Course, one of the first desegregated public golf courses in the United States, all have added to the Park's importance as a recreational destination.
Hermann Park, located minutes from downtown Houston, is a cultural and recreational hub surrounded by the Texas Medical Center, Rice University, the Museum District, and various residential neighborhoods. The entrance to the park is at the intersection of Main St. and Montrose Blvd. Upon arriving at Hermann Park the visitor is greeted by a statue of one of Houston's founders, General Sam Houston. He points in, towards the park, leading the park visitor in the direction of it's many amenities.
McGovern Centennial Gardens and the Cherie Flores Garden Pavilion:
Renovated in 2015, the Centennial Garden has completely transformed the original 15-acre Garden Center site into a stunning attraction for Park visitors. The Gardens feature a Family Garden, Centennial Green, 30’ Garden Mount, Celebration Garden, Rose Garden, and the Cherie Flores Garden Pavilion. As you explore the Gardens you will come across 490+ new trees of over 50 different species, 760 hedge shrubs, 350 new roses in the Rose Garden, 106,875 other shrubs and perennials of 199 varieties, 115 new camellias and 650 new azaleas in the Woodland Garden and so much more.
Japanese Garden:
An island of serenity nestled in a pine grove near the Sam Houston Monument, the garden was designed by world-renowned Japanese landscape architect Ken Nakajima and built to symbolize the friendship between the U.S. and Japan. Recognizing Houston's thriving Japanese community, the garden is built on 5 acres and combines a traditional Japanese Garden design with a touch of Texas.
Miller Outdoor Theatre:
A free, open-air theatre, host to a variety of multi-cultural events, allows visitors to catch a concert or play while picnicking in one of Houston’s most popular parks. Rain or shine, a wide variety of family-friendly performances include Cinco de Mayo, Fourth of July festivities, Shakespeare in the Park, the Houston Ballet, and the Houston Grand Opera performances.
Houston Zoo:
Founded in 1922, this recreational destination serves 1.4 million guests annually and is set in a lush 55-acre landscape right in the middle of Hermann Park. The Houston Zoo is home to more than 3,100 exotic animals representing more than 500 species. It is one of the largest collections in the nation and is considered one of the best-maintained zoos in the country.
Hermann Park Golf Course:
In 1922, the lush and scenic 18-hole Hermann Park Golf Course was built, starting a rich tradition of golfing excellence that has prospered for more than 70 years. The golf course was the first public golf course in America to welcome all races. Play golf under the majestic emerald canopy of stately oak trees and its manicured, plush Bermuda greens. Unwind on the airy veranda of the historic clubhouse, and satisfy your appetite with delicious food, combined with impeccable service.
McGovern Lake:
This 8-acre masterpiece is newly restored and expanded, creating two new islands for migratory birds, and a third island that the miniature train travels. Pedal boats are available to rent at the boathouse and catch-and-release fishing available for children under 12 and senior citizens over 65 at Bob's Fishing Pier.
Activities:

Mitotiani @ Miller Outdoor Theater Oct 17, 2009
Mitotiani Aztec Dancers consists of Mexica/Aztec Dancers from different groups around Texas. The term Aztec means 'person of Aztlan', the place where the Mexica came from, but was not commonly used until 18th and 19th century historians adopted it. The Aztec people called themselves Mexica after the southern migration and this was how they came to be known to the Spaniards, hence the name Mexico. The dancers are Indigenous people born in the Mexico or in the United States but are of Mexican Descent. These dances originated in Tenochtitlan, known as today as Mexico City.
We have dedicated our lives to the preservation of traditional ways that have been lost or misinterpreted in the last 500 years. We offer our songs and movement, IN CUICATL IN XOCHITL which literally translates as Song and Flower. These offerings of our heart are how our Ancestors were in contact with the natural manifestations of Mother Earth. The dance is considered a way of concentration in motion of these ideas.
Through this discipline we focus very hard on honoring these traditions. The footsteps and whirling movements represent the fertility of the earth and the crops. The spinning motions represent wind/air and creative flow of the human psyche, the steps back and forth show the fire and zigzag steps the water. We honor the four sacred elements, earth, wind, fire and water in these songs and movement.
Each dancer prepares his/her own regalia according to the character they wish to portray or give homage to during the presentation. The copillis (headdresses) are adorned with fine pheasant, macaw, turkey and rooster feathers according to years of experience. ·
Members of the group are committed to the difficult task of expressing an idea and developing the creation of a thought which is of the highest philosophical and traditional order in these Ancient ways. In order to do this, it is necessary that the dance incorporate its duality which is music. This way keeping the sacred order of all life.
It is performed with these sacred instruments over 2,000 years in existence on this continent but forbidden by the Spaniards to be played for centuries. The way to create and play these instruments was kept hidden away from the Spanish rule for generations and has recently re-emerged into our culture, fulfilling ancient prophesies our Ancestors left behind for us.

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.
From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.
Celebrated on June 19, the term is a portmanteau of June and nineteenth,[1] and is recognized as a state holiday or state holiday observance in 41 states of the United States. This is part of a celebration held at Hermann Park in Miller Outdoor Theatre.

JAPANESE GARDEN
With its waterfalls, bridges, and stone paths that wander among crepe myrtles, azaleas, Japanese maples, dogwoods, and cherry trees, the Japanese Garden is a peaceful hideaway in Hermann Park. The garden was designed by world-renowned landscape architect, Ken Nakajima. Natural materials are used, such as rock, wood, and plants, to give a feeling of serenity. The Japanese Garden features a teahouse and winding paths to explore the lush gardens. On October 19, 2012, 20 cherry trees were planted in the garden to commemorate the original gift of cherry trees to the United States by Japan in 1912.
LAKE PLAZA
Scenic Lake Plaza, renovated in 2008, is situated along the eastern edge of McGovern Lake and is adjacent to the main entrance to the Houston Zoo. The scenic, eight-acre lake offers Park visitors a beautiful spot to relax and watch birds or take a pedal boat ride. Major improvements to the lake were started in 1999 when the old lake was drained, enlarged, and concrete edges were added for safety. The lake now includes three islands, with two islands set aside for migratory birds. Catch-and-release fishing is permitted for children under 12 and senior citizens over 65 at Bob's Fishing Pier. Pedal boats are available for rental in Lake Plaza.

Every Trane system is tested in some of the most extreme conditions found in nature. We freeze, broil, stress, drop, shock, expose, listen and finally take ‘em home with us to ensure they’re truly unstoppable. Trane Reliability Engineers know exactly how hard it is to stop a Trane. They make them that way. And while they've put our products up against the most extreme conditions in our SEET lab, they always want to see how far they can take it. At the SEET (Systems Extreme Environmental Test) lab in Tyler, Texas, Trane products are put through 16 weeks of bone-chilling cold and blistering heat, in repeating two-week sessions. Jackson Air & Heat has been serving Sugar Land and surrounding areas since 1982. As a family owned and operated business, we're proud of the fact that over 80% of our new customers are referred by their satisfied neighbors, family and friends. From homes to workplaces, from basic maintenance to complicated repairs and installations, our technicians possess the professional training and passion for details to make sure every job is done right. We like to say we have a License to Chill. Our customers like to savor the comfort that shows how well we keep our word. The Trane brand is the most recognized, most preferred and most highly rated brand of residential heating, cooling and ventilation. Trane has long been the world's largest producer of the massive chillers in commercial air conditioning systems. But our industry leadership today is based on the comprehensive systems we design to accommodate the specific needs of our customers' buildings, complete with sophisticated controls as well as chillers, all supported with Trane parts and services. Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning is the technology of indoor and vehicular environmental comfort. Its goal is to provide thermal comfort and acceptable indoor air quality. At Trane, we're all about air – cool air, warm air, clean air. For more than a century the Trane name has identified products and technology that stretched the world's idea of what was possible – a tradition that's still very much with us. In many ways Trane is a classic American success story that grew into a global one. It began with our founder, James Trane, a Norwegian immigrant who opened his own plumbing shop in La Crosse, WI, in 1885.
