View from my room in Sofia Bulgaria
A video taken for posterity. I filmed it to not be public but instead show my family the space I was at but I decided to show others as well.

Cristal's BIRTHDAY in SOFIA BULGARIA!!! | $50 Dollar Penthouse AirBnB
This week is Cristal's birthday week and I asked her to pick anywhere in the world to spend her birthday, she chose Sofia, Bulgaria! At first I was not sure what made her want to travel to Sofia Bulgaria, but soon after our arrival at Our $50 Dollar Penthouse I quickly knew exactly what intrigued my wife to visit Sofia Bulgaria. Aside from the fact that it had the most amazing indoor jacuzzi, you can't beat such an amazing AirBnB deal! We spent Cristal's birthday exploring the street of Sofia and we ate some traditional Bulgarian food! If you are looking for a place to vacation, while keeping your expenses VERY low, Sofia Bulgaria is the place for you! While we did not get to enjoy everything that Sofia has to offer, we hope to come back when Abella is older and take a Hike up to the 7 Rila Lakes in Bulgaria.

THE CAN FAMILY TRAVELS
Things NOT to Do in Bulgaria
When venturing out to the Balkan nation of Bulgaria, you’ll likely be visiting Devil’s Bridge and taking a selfie in front of the Bulgarian State Monument. But, you should take into account these 10 things NOT to do to make your stay in this cultural melting pot more enjoyable.
1. Don’t Splurge on Cheap Liquor
It might be tempting to purchase some inexpensive alcohol during your stay, but cheap liquor can cost you your life. In 2015, four people died of alcohol poisoning after drinking counterfeit alcohol during celebrations. Be cautious...
2. Don’t Spend All Your Time in the Capital
Sofia is a beautiful and vibrant city that you should definitely explore. But there’s so much more to see, like the coastline of the Black Sea, the beautiful beaches, the stunning mountains, the crafts, the traditional dancing, and the streams of the Danube river.
3. Don’t Talk Bad About Their Football Team
Football is the most popular sport in the country. Bulgarians treat their football players like kings, and participating in some unfriendly banter about their favorite past time is a recipe for disaster. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
4. Don’t Trust Hotel Ratings
It's better if you check the traveler's reviews online, just in case you're looking for something different. Anyway, it's always good to know other people's opinions and suggestions.
5. Don’t Pack Too Much
You’ll want to leave some extra room. Bulgaria is full of markets and you’ll definitely want to take home, from handcrafted pottery to handmade jewelry. They also have amazing art galleries by some of the country’s most talented artists.
6. Don’t Confuse the Nod
In Bulgaria, they nod differently. For “yes,” they shake their head from side to side. And for “no,” they nod their head once upward. If you’re not aware of this, you might actually be saying no when you really mean yes!
7. Don’t Criticize Their Food
In Bulgaria, they love their traditional dishes (Visual: Musaka), and they want their guests to enjoy the food, too. If you’re not particularly fond of what’s on your plate, remain courteous, and chow down anyway. You don’t want to turn someone off and come across as an inconsiderate traveler.
8. Don’t Drink in Public in Varna
If you head out to the port city of Varna, be aware that there is a ban on drinking in public. Due to an increase in inebriated tourists, the mayor felt the need to prohibit drinking in gardens, alleyways, and parks.
9. Don’t Stop at Stop Signs
Okay, okay, this is a bit of an old one. Locals of Bulgaria used to take Stop signs very lightly, more of an suggestion than a rule. But times have changed and drivers have improved, although it doesn't hurt to be extra wary when faced with one of these signs.
10. Don’t Visit Without Brushing Up on Their History
They have a lot of pride in their country, and they know the ins and outs of the ancient Bulgarian kings and the discoveries that were made in the country centuries ago. If you want to impress them, brush up on some Bulgarian history beforehand.
Where do you want to know what not to do in next?

Amazing Bulgaria - Balkan Roadtrip
Bulgaria, our first country in our 6 county Balkan Road trip. On our first day, we drove to the Rila Natural Park from Sofia. At the footstep of the Rila mountain, we visited the beautiful Rila Monastery where the remains of St Ivan of Rila can be found. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site in Bulgaria. We stayed overnight at Best Western Premier Sofia Airport Hotel. From airport, they offer shuttle service from/to airport. Before we drove to Greece, we had our dinner at Skaptobara, a restaurant in Sofia known for it's delicious burger. On our last day of the Roadtrip, we came back to Bulgaria stopping at Belogradchik Rock Fortress. It's a beautiful fortress on top of a mountain with amazing rock formations. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Before sunset, we retired at Sofia Hotel Balkan (Sheraton). It's a beautiful classical luxury hotel in the middle of the city close to many tourist attractions of Sofia. our Room had a balkon overlooking the Statue of Sofia and St. Kyriali Cathedral Church. In the evening, we had a dinner at Happy Bar Grill Restaurant. The next day, before we fly back to Amsterdsm, we had a bit of walking tour of the city. We visited the city landmark, Cathedral Saint Aleksandar Nevski, orthodox church.

BEHIND THE SCENES | BULGARIA EXPLORATION 2016
Behind the scenes video footage of the Croatia Infiltration team exploring and traveling all across Bulgaria in 2016. A lot of people asked us about what goes on behind the camera, so this is a small mood piece about our work. For the complete picture and understanding please visit our blog:
Keep in mind, this video was completely unplanned, and our first serious video project. All of the footage was randomly shot so it was quite a feat to edit it properly.

International Ward in Tokuda Hospital Sofia opening ceremony
International Collaboration, Experience Exchange, and Best Practices:
Our International Ward was created in collaboration between Tokuda Hospital Sofia, the Tokushukai Medical Group Japan, and Cambridge University Hospitals Addenbrookes from the UK all whom are on the management board of Tokuda Hospital Sofia to deliver innovative medical service and patient care excellence by global best health care practices from each partner organization.
International Team:
Our International Ward personnel consists of multi-lingual nursing staff and physicians with international professional experience, whom have been additionally trained to provide patient focused medical service based on specific cultural preferences and individualized patient needs.
Comprehensive and Multidisciplinary Diagnostics and Treatment:
Our International Ward provides our patients full access to a wide spectrum of diagnostic and treatment services across our 30 plus medical specialties from cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology, neurology, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, CCSVI diagnostics and treatments, mini-invasive surgery (laparoscopic key-hole procedures), and many others. Our medical teams are dedicated to and routinely deliver multidisciplinary care via teams of specialists from different medical disciplines collaborating together based on the patient case to comprehensively treat complex medical conditions.
Increased Patient Access, Reduced Waiting Times, and International Specialists:
Our International Ward is committed to increase patient access to innovative treatments by providing a platform for guest-doctors to provide treatments in our hospital. Thus patients can choose his/her specialist, can invite his physician from other hospitals, and/or even bring specialists from other countries to perform treatments in Tokuda taking full advantage of our excellent accommodation, assistance, and medical resources.
These features are the cornerstone of our International Ward namely to bring highly sought after specialists directly to patients in need. This approach offers a rapid and convenient solution for patients in countries with long treatment waiting lists, for patients in need of innovative medical treatments not available in their countries, and or medical tourists looking for the best combination of comfort, price, and value. Furthermore due to our convenient location between the Europe and Asia, we can significantly reduce travel time and travel expenses for medical tourists seeking treatment in more distant countries such as India or Thailand.
Hospital of Patient Choice:
Since our hospital began in 2006, we rapidly became the hospital of choice in Bulgaria for local and international patients. In 2011 alone, we delivered medical services to over 8,000 international patients including medical tourists whom traveled to Tokuda from the following countries/regions: 400 from the USA, 800 from Canada, 1,000 from the EU, 350 from Russia and the former Soviet republics, and over 200 from the Middle East.
In direct response to patient choice and the growing demand for our services, we created our International Ward to continue to develop as a preferred medical tourism destination offering high quality medical care and high patient value services at competitive pricing.
Accommodation Features and Comforts
Our International Department hospital rooms were individually designed to resemble hotel rooms each with its own design theme, color palettes, and matching furniture. Each room has been equipped with the following:
Personal dressers and luggage storage areas
Private bathroom with private bath or shower equipped with Japanese heated seat toilets with bidets
Individual room heating and cooling with fully adjustable digital thermostats
Fully electronically adjustable hospital beds
Cable flat screen TVs
Wireless internet access
Spacious patient and visitor lounge with view of Vitosha Mountain
Mini-refrigerators
Patient Meals:
Another aspect of our tailored medical service is custom patient meals. We have a daily patient meal menu, which the patient can choose from international fare for various breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Of course these meal options are designed by a dietitian and designed with the patient's specific treatment, recovery process, and nutritional needs in mind in collaboration with the treating physician. Meals are delivered bedside, and they can also be ordered for patient companions and guests staying with or visiting the patient.
