How to go to the Great Wall Mutianyu by public bus
This video shows how to get to the Great Wall at Mutianyu in Beijing by public bus.
Here is a summary of how to do it:
- Take the subway line 2 to the Dongzhimen station
- Take exit C and follow signs to the Transport Center
- Enter the transport center (next to the KFC) and look for bus 916 Express
- 916 Express is written as 916块
- bus fare is 12RMB or 6RMB if you have the transportation card (Yikatong)
- The bus takes a little over one hour to reach the village of Huairou. In Huairou you get off at the Huairou Bei Da Jie stop. Stops are announced in Chinese only. Let the driver know that you are getting off at Beijing-based Da Jie.
* **One or two stops before Bed Da Jie, someone will stick their head in the bus and yell Mutianyu Great Wall and wave you out. Do not pay attention to the scammers. The will overcharge you to take you there.***
- At Bei Da Die, cross the street to take bus H23 or H24 (5RMB). The ride will be about 15-20 minutes.
- Near that bus stop there will be some drivers with mini vans who will offer to take you to Mutianyu. It is ok to take these vans but negotiate a rate of 5RMB per person.
- Note that when returning to Beijing, you will take bus 916 at this bus stop.

Beijing to Mutianyu GREAT WALL BY BUS | Cheap and Easy
How to get to Mutianyu Great Wall from Beijing by public transportation (train/bus). Less crowded than Badaling section and it has a toboggan sled ride to get you back down from the Great Wall!
I used the blog below for directions in case you want a written instruction:
Have fun and good luck!
Datong Great Wall
About 400km west of Beijing, the ancient Datong was one of the Nine Frontier Important Towns in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), maintaining the 335km Great Wall within Datong and defending against the Mongol raiders. Datong Great Wall was an important part of the Wall's central section from the Yellow River to the passes leading to Beijing, vital to the defense of both central China and Beijing.

If you want to avoid the crowds at the Great Wall of China we recommend a few things. Firstly don't go to the Great Wall of China on a Weekend, there will be a lot more people there and you will miss out on the sights. Secondly head to Mutianyu Great Wall , although this is quite a developed section of the wall, it gives you a real sense of the size and importance of the Great Wall of China. Thirdly we recommend taking the bus there, although you can take a tour to the Great wall of China it is always recommended to take the bus, Chinese tourists will often take the bus and it is a great way to do China travel on a budget.
The Mutianyu toboggan, the Mutianyu Cable Car and the Mutianyu chairlift are all great ways to get up and down to the wall. But we recommend for the best experience at the great wall of china to go up the chairlift and take the toboggan back down. The China Great Wall sled ride or Mutianyu luge are totally worth it, one of our most fun experiences in China. Just make sure you leave enough space between you and the other guests to give enough speed.

[4K] EXTREMELY Crowded Great Wall of China - The Great Wall at Badaling, Beijing
[4K] An Extremely Packed Great Wall of China. Tip: Avoid visiting the Great Wall of China in Badaling, Beijing during a National Holiday. Even though it may be very crowded, the farther you walk away from the main entrance points, the crowd gets pretty light to nonexistent as you can see in the video. You will also see the Beijing's Forbidden City toward the end of the video.
If you're a tourist, we highly recommend visiting the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu as It never gets crowded during the holidays.
We had a blast hiking the Great Wall and were very happy to be able to cross the Great Wall off our bucket list.

It has a population of approximately 3.11 million. The Yungang Grottoes, or Cloud Ridge Caves (云冈石窟 Yúngāng Shíkū) are a collection of shallow caves located 16 km west of Datong. Simatai Great Wall tour will begin at a historic watched tower called Houchuankou Pass. Following this first pass, you will witness several unique towers throughout your tour. You will be rewarded with amazing, panoramic views of the Wall to gaze at and take pictures of during your Beijing small group tour.
Built on sharp mountain ridges, the remarkable architecture of the Great Wall will leave you feeling exhilarated and amazed at the sheer talent of the workers and engineers who built the Wall hundreds of years ago.
The hike will end at the Zhuandoukou Pass (砖垛口), which is a remarkable architectural feat consisting of three-stories with large wooden, red windows facing the north. As this would be end of your Simatai to JinShanling Great Wall Hike, make sure to take plenty of pictures!
THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA | VLOG 22
The story about the Great Wall of China.
The Bus 877 starts from Deshengmen Bus Station which is located on the north square below Deshengmen Arrow Tower (德胜们箭楼) lying on the mid-way of the northern second ring road.
It is worth getting up earlier to catch an early morning Bus 877 for Badaling Great Wall and avoid a possible snake of people on the wall.
How to get to Deshengmen Bus Terminal:
Several buses can bring you to the Deshengmen Bus Station. But the bus system in Beijing could be daunting even for the local Beijingers. It is advisable to take the Subway Line 2 to reach Deshengmen Bus Station. The the closest subway station to Deshengmen Bus Station is Jishuitan (积水潭) of the loop-type Subway Line 2.
You get off at the station of Jishuitan (积水潭), exit from the Exit A.Then walk along the sideway in the east direction for about 450 meters, soon you will see a high tower – the Deshengmen Arrow Tower. Deshengmen Bus Station is just below the northern side of the tower. The compound of Deshengmen Arrow Tower is within a roundabout.
So you have to cross a road to reach the bus station. You have to be careful crossing the road since the road has no traffic light at the time of my writing. By the way, on your 450-meter walk from the subway station of Jishuitan to the Deshengmen Arrow Tower, you will pass alongside the Deshengmenxi Bus Station (different from Deshengmen Bus Station) and you just ignore it!
You will be also distracted by some privately owned buses or mini-buses operated in the name of official Badaling-bound buses. I strongly suggest you take the official buses within the Deshengmen Bus Station for safety and reasonable price. Don’t be surprised, if you find the queue in front of the bus 877, very long, especially on the weekends or national public holidays.
Bus No.877 (Bus Fare: RMB 12)Between Deshengmen (德胜门)- Badaling (八达岭)
The 877 Bus is a no-stop bus from Deshengmen to Badaling. When the bus arrives at the back hill of Badaling, you still have to take a 20-minute walk to the ticket office and then start your hike up to the Badaling Great Wall.

Camping on the Great Wall of China
Kuinka telttailla Kiinan muurilla?
TÄSSÄ OHJEET:
1. Gubeikou (古北口 Gǔběikǒu) on Beijingistä n. 130 kilometriä pohjoiseen ja n. 3-4 tunnin matkan päässä kaupungin keskustasta. Kiinan muurin nimi on ”Panlongshan” eli ”Coiling Dragon Mountain” (蟠龙山). Osoite: Southeast of Gubeikou Town, Miyun County, Beijing
2. Valitse Pekingissä metrolinja 2 tai 13 (ennen klo 8 aamuruuhkaa) ja saavu Dongzhimen pitkän matkan bussiterminaalille.
3. Nappaa expressbussi numero 980 ja matkusta noin 1.5-2 tuntia Miyun kylään pysäkille ”Miyun changtu chezhan” (密云长途车站). Suosittelemme käyttämään busseissa julkisen liikenteen ladattavaa matkakorttia, sillä matka on tällöin puolet halvempi kuin käteisellä matkustettaessa. Bussikortti pitää leimata bussin sisälle saapuessa ja toisen kerran bussista poistuttaessa. Matka Pekingistä Miyuniin maksaa noin 6 yuania (1 euro).
4. Älä huomioi kalliita minibusseja tai taksikuskeja, jotka hyökkäävät haukan lailla kimppuusi bussista ulos astuessasi. Kävele siihen suuntaan, josta bussi saapui, ylitä risteys oikealle päin ja kadun varresta löydät bussipysäkin Gubeikouhun. Hyppää ensimmäistä bussia pienempään bussiin (bussi numero 25), joka ajaa noin tunnin välein Gubeikouhun reilun 50 kilometrin matkan. Matka maksaa kortilla maksettaessa 4 yuania ja kestää 1,5-2 tuntia.
5. Gubeikoussa lähin bussipysäkki muurin sisäänkäynnin luona on pysäkki juuri ennen suurta Gubeikoun tunnelia ”Yong Jun Road” (拥军路). Jos ajat vahingossa tämän pysäkin ohi kuten me teimme, seuraavapysäkki on muutaman sadan metrin päässä kyläkaupan kohdalla.
6. Pääsymaksu muurille on 25 yuania (4 euroa).
7. Muurille pääsee nopeimmin kylän vasemmalta laidalta ylöspäin lähtevää polkua seuraten.
8. Jos haluat kokea muurilla vaeltamisen päinvastaiseen suuntaan (kuten me teimme), kävele pienen sympaattisen kylän läpi tien vierustaa pitkin noin viiden kilometrin matka, jonka jälkeen saavutat muurille johtavat pitkät portaat. Tämä on lähellä Kiemurtelevan lohikäärmevuoren päätyä: oikealla vastaan tulee armeijablokki ja vasemmalla 13 kilometrin matka muuria pitkin takaisin kylään.
