Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge
The Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge is part of a corridor of land and water stretching nearly 70 miles along the Minnesota River, from Bloomington to Henderson, Minnesota. Comprised of more than 14,000 acres, the refuge offers a variety of free outdoor recreational experiences for individuals and families. The refuge ranges from urban to rural, providing unique opportunities to enjoy the outdoors in the shadows of skyscrapers, grain elevators, malls, and airports. Established in 1976, the refuge provides habitat for a large number of migratory waterfowl, fish, and other wildlife species threatened by commercial and industrial development, and provides environmental education for the surrounding communities. The refuge will be marking its 40th anniversary in October 2016.

Percy Quin State Park RV Campsites
A walk through of the Percy Quin State Park campsites in McComb, MS. A very enjoyable stay - would prefer to go back at a cooler time of year & walk the trails around Lake Tangipahoa. Quiet park, reasonable rates, pet friendly! There are two golf courses, tennis courts, swimming pool, cabins for rent & primitive sites as well. A very nice bathhouse too. The pool & tennis courts are near the entrance of the park, away from the camping areas, thus, creating a quiet atmosphere for campers.

2 Minnesota Rivers Named Among 'Most Endangered'
Two Minnesota rivers made it onto a list that supporters would rather avoid, Jennifer Mayerle reports (2:06). WCCO 4 News at 6 - April 10, 2018
Flagstone Online for Sale
call us at 215 651 8329 for Bluestone Video Display of Flagstone From Pennsylvania We are Highland Hill Farm Our most favorite plant the Green Giant The original Green Giant got its name not from ancient lore, but from unusually extra large, hence giant, green peas. These Green Giant Peas were introduced by the Minnesota Valley Canning Company in 1925, in contrast to their previously marketed LeSueur baby peas, early-picked in June. Founded in 1903, this pea company was located in the valley of the Minnesota River, the Dakota Sioux name for cloudy water, just southwest of Minneapolis and St. Paul, the state capital. This is where there's a confluence with the even cloudier and muddier Mississippi River giving the whole area, including the surrounding towns like LeSueur, the title of the Minnesota Valley. Lesueur is the name of the original explorer of the area, a Frenchmen of the early 1700's. By 1950, the Jolly Green Giant was so popular, such an icon as we say today, with a cartoon character created, etc., he became the basis of the company's new name. So that is where Green Giant comes from, modern marketing, not ancient lore...
The Green Giant Arborvitae is more properly named by tree scientists the Thuja Plicata, with the other common historic names being, giant cedar, also western cedar, and red cedar. There's only one other Arborvitae specie in all of North America, the eastern cedar, or white cedar, with Thuja Occidentalis, as the tree scientist's Latin name, the botanist's name. This short tree is actually what we usually think of when the genus juniper is mentioned.
Funny that the eastern cedar was given the Latin name for west which is occidental. You see? As I have observed before, what's in a name? Highland Hill Farm is not located in a town called Highland Hills, or, on Highland Hill Road, etc. Scottish Highland Hills cows that we grazed on our first property provided our company with a distinctive name when we sold our first trees in 1978.

Viral Plumber Who Dove Into Sewer to Fix Pipe Gets Free Jeans For a Year
More from Inside Edition:
A photo of a hard-working plumber who went above and beyond the call of duty to fix a broken pipe is going viral. A homeowner snapped this shot of Jimmie Cox diving into murky water to try and fix the problem. Inside Edition connected Cox with Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs, who commended the plumber for his dedication to his dirty job. Bernadotte Dam and Bridge
The unincorporated village of Bernadotte, Illinois, lies four miles north of Ipava on the Spoon River at the northeast corner of old U.S. Army Camp Ellis.
The two noted landmarks at Bernadotte are the dam, the only dam on Spoon River, and the iron bridge which was constructed in 1910 replacing the old wood covered bridge which had served many years as a crossing over Spoon River and along the Underground Railroad in Illinois.
The dam was erected by U.S. Army Engineers to impound water for Camp Ellis and replaced an earlier mill and mill dam. The dam is still a fishing site for area fishermen.
Bernadotte has the distinction of having once been considered as the site for the capital of Illinois, prior to the capital being located at Vandalia in 1820. Vandalia was selected over Bernadotte by the difference of one vote in the state legislature.
Until the early 1940s, Bernadotte had a population of about four hundred people when it was razed, with the exception of one building, to become part of the Camp Ellis prisoner of war and training camp during World War II. The population of Bernadotte is well under one hundred persons and was not recorded on the 2000 U.S. Census.
The Bernadotte Bridge is one of the few iron bridges still standing in Illinois and has been closed to vehicular traffic for a number of years, but still remains a major attraction for residents and visitors to Spoon River country.
The Bernadotte Bridge is one of nine metal highway bridges in Fulton County, Illinois listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This particular one along Illinois Route 2 as it passes in and around Smithfield, Illinois. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 29, 1980, along with the eight other bridges, as one of the Metal Highway Bridges of Fulton County. The bridge is one of three near Smithfield listed on the Register, the others are the Buckeye Bridge (now demolished) and the Tartar's Ferry Bridge. The Bernadotte Bridge is one of the few remaining; five of the nine have been destroyed.

How No Swimmers Noticed Toddler Drowning At Crowded Water Park Wave Pool
A heroic, eagle-eyed lifeguard came to the rescue of a 3-year-old swimmer that was drowning - and no one around the child even noticed what was happening. At Whirlin' Waters Adventure Park, a wave pool in North Charleston, South Carolina, a little girl was struggling and a lifeguard sprung to action. In a video of the rescue, people were swimming next to the girl, but don't appear to notice what's happening to her.
Finding Good Crappie Fishing Spots
Jason made a point in the fall and winter to look for new crappie fishing spots with his electronics. He started in some productive arms of the lake and idled along break lines looking for brush piles with fish.
These creek channel edges are often where fishermen like to drop their brush piles. So Jason scanned with Lowrance HDS 3D Structure Scan for likely looking spots and brush piles until he found schools of crappie holding on them.
Once he saw a good school of fish on a brush pile, he stopped and fished it. He would cast a jig over the top, when they quit biting that, he would pitch to the piles from a closer distance, and finally he would get right on top of them and fish vertically on the pile.
He had one of the best fall/winter periods for crappie fishing in recent years by getting out and hunting for fish more with his electronics.

Crisis of Faith | Tennessee Civil War 150 | NPT
The vast majority of Americans in the first half of the 19th Century were highly religious, overwhelmingly Christian, and believed America was destined for greatness, in part because of their belief in God. This conviction was put to the ultimate test by The Civil War. Watch Crisis of Faith | Tennessee Civil War 150 | NPT from Nashville Public Television.

SUMMARY
=======
Minneapolis ( (listen)) is the county seat of Hennepin County and the larger of the Twin Cities, the 16th-largest metropolitan area in the United States. As of 2017, Minneapolis is the largest city in the state of Minnesota and 45th-largest in the United States, with an estimated population of 422,331. The Twin Cities metropolitan area consists of Minneapolis, its neighbor Saint Paul, and suburbs which altogether contain about 3.6 million people, and is the third-largest economic center in the Midwest.Minneapolis lies on both banks of the Mississippi River, just north of the river's confluence with the Minnesota River, and adjoins Saint Paul, the state's capital. The city is abundantly rich in water, with 13 lakes, wetlands, the Mississippi River, creeks and waterfalls; many connected by parkways in the Chain of Lakes and the Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway. It was once the world's flour milling capital and a hub for timber. The city and surrounding region is the primary business center between Chicago and Seattle. In 2011, Minneapolis proper was home to the fifth-highest number of Fortune 500 headquarters in the United States. As an integral link to the global economy, Minneapolis is categorized as a global city.Minneapolis has one of the largest LGBT populations in the U.S. proportional to its overall population. Noted for its strong music and performing arts scenes, Minneapolis is home to both the award-winning Guthrie Theater and the historic First Avenue nightclub. Reflecting the region's status as an epicenter of folk, funk, and alternative rock music, the city served as the launching pad for several of the 20th century's most influential musicians, including Bob Dylan and Prince. More recently, Minneapolis has become noted for its underground and independent hip-hop and rap scenes, producing artists such as Brother Ali, Atmosphere, and Dessa. The name Minneapolis is attributed to Charles Hoag, the city's first schoolmaster, who combined mni, a Dakota Sioux word for water, and polis, the Greek word for city.
