1976: a visit to Corfe Castle and the model village
The boys spend a day out at Corfe Castle, in the last years of its ownership by the Banks family. After climbing around the Motte, we walk through the village to the main entrance, where we pay 20p entry for adults, 10p for children! Climbing the keep, the same view still greets you from the top now as it did 45 years ago. However, now steam trains run along the Wareham to Swanage line again, as the Swanage Railway has been restored by volunteers. Next, we go to the almost unchanged model village, café and gardens, and have the obligatory photo in the stocks. Driving home we are held up by a herd of cows crossing the road.

Postcard from Goodrich Castle, Herefordshire | England Drone Footage
Surrounded by open countryside, Goodrich Castle in Herefordshire is perhaps one of the finest and best preserved of all English medieval castles.
The castle's fortifications were put to the test by mortar fire in 1646 during the English Civil War. Parliamentarians waged a two-month siege, bombarding the castle using a locally made cannon called Roaring Meg; the only surviving mortar from the period, it is now on display in the castle courtyard.
