Molokai, Hawaii
Molokai is the fifth largest of the Hawaiian Islands. With only about 7500 people, a few small villages and limited tourist-oriented facilities, it has a much different atmosphere than the other major islands, very much the opposite of Waikiki. The island is home to Kalaupapa National Historical Park, an isolated peninsula on the north side of the island that once served as a leper colony. Access to the park is quite limited as long as surviving residents from the colony remain. This is also where St. Damien served. The beaches are mostly empty - for most of my beach time I had them to myself.
The Photos (in order)

H06A1447 - Old Kamalo Wharf, along Kamehameha V Highway
H06A1449 - Further east along Kamehameha V Highway
H06A1450 - St. Joseph Church, established by Father Damien; there is a statue of the saint to the right of the church and information about him and his ministry inside
H06A1490 - Halawa Valley, at the east end of Molokai
H06A1371 - View of Kalaupapa NHP from the top of the cliffs above the park
H06A1509 - At 3 miles, Papohaku Beach on the west end of Molokai is the longest white sand beach in Hawaii; even better, it is often completely deserted
H06A1500 - Late day sun hits the palm trees along the beach at my hotel

Haleolono, Molokai, Hawaii for the Na Wahine Kaiwi Channel Outrigger Canoe Race
While the race was cancelled the next day due to a hurricane south of the islands that was causing the Kaiwi Channel to be treacherous, the experience of camping out for two nights on the boat in Molokai was great. What made it sweet was just the experience of being in the quiet harbors of Molokai while just outside the harbor was the very deep Pacific Ocean. Seeing the other boats and meeting their crews like hoaloha Mitch's was also entertaining.
Maunaloa, HI
MOLOKAI RANCH, MAUNALOA, HAWAII
The Island of Molokai, central to the main Hawaiian Islands, has for generations been an oasis for Hawaiian royalty, tycoons and naturalists alike. Comprising approximately 55,575 acres and 35% of the island, Molokai Ranch is the most significant offering in the state of Hawaii. The successful new owner will be among the top five private landowners in the state.
The extensive lands of Molokai Ranch offer a remarkable combination of towering sea cliffs, secluded beaches, prime pastureland and tropical rainforests. In addition to the ranching operations, this extraordinary property consists of agricultural lands, nature preserves, and commercial, residential, golf course, oceanfront resort hotel, and upcountry lodge properties spanning over 300 parcels.
With over 20 miles of coastline property, Molokai Ranch offers a wide variety of ocean activities. Molokai's south shore features Hawaii's most extensive coastal reef system, consisting of over 14,000 acres of pristine reef habitat.
Relaxed, beautiful, and magically unrefined, the privacy and sense of authentic Hawaii are preserved, while world-class amenities are easily accessible. The major urban center of Honolulu and the more populated islands are within 30 minutes via private or commercial air services.
Molokai Ranch presents an incomparable opportunity to acquire the largest collection of privately held real estate assets available in Hawaii.

A'ole GMO - Molokai
A protest of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) took place on Molokai Saturday, March 30. Hundreds of marchers came through Kaunakakai to express their dispute with the growing of GMO crops in Hawaii. It was the last in a series of Saturday marches called March in March that had already taken place in Hale'iwa, Oahu (March 2), Kaua'i (March 9), Big Island (March 16), and Maui (March 23).

I actually never intended to make a video of the paddle, but these caves are too good to keep to myself, so I had to share them.
