Monteverde Cloud Forest Costa Rica (2019) | Must see Costa Rica
Monteverde Cloud Forest Costa Rica (2019) | Must see Costa Rica
One of the things Costa Rica is famous for is it's cloud forests and we couldn't visit Monteverde without spending a day exploring the cloud forest in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.
Despite being budget travellers sometime we just have to splash out and this is one of those times. A short bus ride from our hostel in Santa Elena we arrived at the cloud forest reserve. We spent the day hiking though the forest and we were not disappointed, great views of the cloud forest, wonderful nature with awesome birds and animals.
The Monteverde cloud forest is definitely one of our must see sites in Costa Rica.

Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve Costa Rica
July 2019 Nancy and I spent the day at national park. We hiked about 3 miles and climed an equal elevaion of 24 floors. Got to see the amazing natural beauty. At about 5000 feet above sea level the rain forest is blanketed in clouds most days providing moisture for the plants. We spotted the two toed sloth and pack of coati's with no fear of humans. Not many birds on this day.

CLOUD FOREST IN MONTEVERDE - COSTA RICA VLOG PART 4
In part four of my Costa Rica vlog series, we travel by bus to Monteverde. This mountain town is well-known for its awesome cloud forests and wildlife sightings. We got to see a sloth up close during another night hike and we explored the tree tops in one of the cloud forests in the region. Monteverde was like no other area we visited in Costa Rica. It felt like stepping into another country for a few days, the climate was different to the rain forest tropics and the mountainous region was as windy as Cape Town! I recommend checking this area out if you're ever visiting Costa Rica.

Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve in Costa Rica
Footage from Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve in Costa Rica. The high mountaintop range is almost constantly wet and sometimes very windy and the air over the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans moves back and forth. The Cloud Forest is famous for its bird diversity including hummingbirds and other species. Mammal species include coati, agouti, and others. Monteverde Costa Rica Night Walk and Tour at Valle Escondido
For our night hike / tour, we were shuttled to Valle Escondido Preserve about 5:00pm straight from our lodge. The area of Monteverde, during our stay, was really windy and the location of the night hike was no different, super windy.
When we arrived we were greeted by our guide and were given our flashlights. We still had a few minutes until the night hike started so I ran down and got a time lapse of the sunset... stunning!
Once we got down into the jungle / forest a bit, the wind wasn't as bad but you could still see and hear it blowing fiercely above us. Our guide showed us everything he could find but apparently the strong winds kept a lot of the night life out of the trees.
We saw several types of birds, spiders, and ants but that was about it. A bit disappointing, but to no fault of our tour guide or the establishment. You can't make animals appear on demand unless you're at a zoo or Disneyland :)
Overall, just being in the forest, in central america, in Costa Rica, in Monteverde... in the middle of nowhere was really awesome. Although we didn't see much, just being out in nature was awesome. Highly recommend the night tour and walk at Valle Escondido Preserve.
On a technical note, I tried shooting this footage with my GoPro Hero4 Silver in low light mode at 1080p / 60fps and think it turned out pretty good.
Comment if you've had better luck with other settings in low light situations.
Monteverde Cloud Forest in Costa Rica! [You Need to Come Here!]
We were not sure if it was worth it to go to Monteverde knowing for a fact that it is mostly cloudy, and it receives a lot of rain. However, just on our way there the sights blew us away! We took Interbus from San Jose to Monteverde, and we were so glad we did, as the drive up the mountain wouldn’t have been easy for us at all!
Monteverde, Costa Rica is beautiful! It is so lush, scenic, the air is so fresh and crisp! We only stayed for 2 nights and it surely was not enough. We really wish we stayed at least 2 more nights!
When we arrived, we went to Monteverde Cloud Forest, we were so busy trying to look for wildlife, and we did not find a lot because our eyes aren’t trained to do so! The hike was relaxing, it was like walking in that perfect climate with perfect air freshness, perfect dense healthy cloud forest as our backdrop!
We did lose our drone here ???? It was pretty sad.
Anyway, we hope that you stuck through the end of this video! And we hope that it has encouraged you to go to Monteverde, Costa Rica.
We also highly recommend Rainbow Valley Lodge, as we had such an amazing stay here! The owner Christian really made our stay that homey!

Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve Tours Costa Rica | Day Trips to Monte Verde Jaco Beach
Monteverde National Park Tours Costa Rica.
Monteverde Biological Reserve and Arenal Volcano Tours
Departure 7:00am from Jaco.
Let's first do the tour with the tour guide of the park, go to sleep later in the villas on the first day in the center of the city of Monte Verde.
Second day of the tour, after breakfast we go to the Arenal Volcano, where we will find the Arenal Lake.
Where you can take a lots of pictures, we are going to enjoy at baldi resort in fortuna hot springs.
Between the tour of Monteverde to Tilaran it is a proximity 1:40 duration we are going to enjoy the mountain, hills and valley landscape.
Monteverde, is an environmental playground where nature rules and conservation is part of everyday life.
Eco-tourism was born in the Monteverde Cloud forest, as well as innovative ways to experience the wonders of the area, such as canopy tours through the trees and hanging bridges connecting mountains.
Monteverde, which means Green Mountain sits on top of a 3500 foot plateau just above the Cordillera de Tilaran, a bumpy offshoot from the Inter-American Highway.
A typical Costa Rican dirt road winds in and around the hills, ridges and valleys of the Tilaran Mountain Range, leading into the yellowish grasslands, speckled with a few surviving strands of tropical dry forest.
The forest is made up of mangoes, espaves, mayflowers, coyol palms, bastard cedars, gumbo-limbos and wild cottons. Climbing higher the vegetation becomes more underdeveloped and mangled, confirmation of the brutal winds that rage in this area.
At the peak, the road is shrouded with fog and mist, even during the dry season, but the cloud forest of this biological reserve only begins after reaching the town of Monteverde.
Monteverde forms part of the Arenal Conservation Area and encompasses approximately 26,000 acres of rainforest divided between the Caribbean and Pacific sides of the Tilaran Mountain Range.
Cloud forests are a mountaintop phenomenon. Moist, warm air sweeping in off the ocean is forced upward by mountain slopes, and as this moist air rises, it cools, forming clouds.
The Monteverde mountaintops are covered on an almost daily basis in dense clouds, and when the clouds blanket the mountain slopes, moisture condenses on forest trees and other vegetation.
This constant and consistent moisture creates an incredible diversity of life forms in an area where nearly every space is occupied with some sort of plant and tree growth.
The limbs and branches of huge trees are covered with epiphytic plants: orchids, ferns, and bromeliads to be precise and subsequently there's an equally diverse population of insects, birds, and other wildlife.
With over 400 kinds of bird species, jaguars, ocelots, and tapirs, over 2,500 species of plants as well as approximately 1,200 reptilian and amphibian species, it is no wonder this a must see for any enthusiastic eco-tourist.
With that many bird species, be sure and bring your binoculars because the forest is filled with seeds and fruit that feed thousands of emerald toucanets, collared redstarts, blue-crowned motmots and black guans just to name a few.
Monteverde Biological Reserve was originally founded in 1951. Founded by a group of U.S. Quakers, who were pacifists seeking refuge from the draft, relocated there because of Costa Ricas political neutrality.
To sustain themselves, the Quakers began making cheese from milk brought to their primitive processing plant each morning by Tico dairy farmers.

Costa Rica Herping + Birding Part 3 - Monteverde Cloud Forest
In our final installment we visit the Monteverde cloud forest in northwestern Costa Rica. While we hoped to see both birds and herps, it was pretty slow herp-wise, but we still had a very awesome time.
Visiting Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, Costa Rica
A very popular reserve area in Costa Rica. The Monteverde Reserve is located up in the mountains and an amazing place to spend a day hiking among the trees, seeing many unique birds and taking in the natural wonder of Costa Rica. Easily accessible by a shuttle bus from Santa Elena town for a few dollars. Entrance fee is $20 USD
Horse riding in Monteverde, Costa Rica
We used one of our free afternoons to go horse riding in Monteverde. We rode through shaded woodland to open grasslands, spotting owls, coatis and other wildlife en route. An unexpected rainbow and stunning sunset were an appropriate end to a lovely day, almost as if they were conjured there.

EXPLORING THE CLOUD FOREST IN MONTEVERDE | COSTA RICA
Costa Rica 2017: Episode 5 of 5
Last summer, I spent two weeks travelling around Costa Rica with Contiki. In the final episode of this Costa Rica series, we visit a butterfly garden and a hummingbird garden in Monteverde, before heading to the park's iconic Cloud Forest Reserve to walk along the hanging bridges through the clouds. We then travel back to the Pacific coast to the ocean-side village of Manuel Antonio. There, we see wild monkeys, raccoons and coatis, before saying our final farewell to Costa Rica.
