Russia: Fans put jumper on monument to iconic Russian singer Vladimir Vysotski
Fans of singer-songwriter and poet Vladimir Vysotski marked the 79th anniversary of his birthday, in Voronezh, on Wednesday, by placing a huge red sweater on a statue of the artist.
SOT, Viktor Kaysin, Musician (Russian): We found a good photo of Vladimir Semyonovich's [Vysotski] in the same red sweater. I think it's a kind of iconic sweater like in the 1960's, an image of that time. If all goes well, I hope to God, if we get good press, then next year we will start an all-city contest for a new sweater design, it will be a citywide movement. If it happens, I will be happy.

Excerpt from the press release:
Press release:
This year the Museum Tinguely in Basel is dedicating its large summer exhibition to one of the most important figures of the Russian avant-garde: Vladimir Tatlin (1885--1953). It is now almost twenty years since the last comprehen-sive retrospective to be devoted to this radically innovative artist. The presented works will include early paintings, counter-reliefs that reach out into the surrounding space, reconstructions of his revolutionary tower, and the flying machine Letatlin. The exhibition is rounded off with examples of his work for the theatre. The œuvre of this outstanding artist from the watershed period at the beginning of the twentieth century will be represented in over one hundred masterpieces, mostly on loan from major collections in Moscow and St Petersburg.
Vladimir Tatlin began his career as a seaman. Until 1913 his artistic activities were limited exclusively to painting and drawing. Interested in the traditional fields of icon-painting and folk art, he later transferred his attention to the most modern avant-garde trends in Russia and Western Europe, more precisely Paris. His entire later work is founded on painting. The exhibition will show a comprehensive selection of his early paintings with their bold expanses of colour, rhythmic curves, and striking use of dark and light outlines. In these eye-catching works Tatlin achieved a highly original synthesis of the Russian tradition and the French avant-garde.

Russian President Vladimir Putin attended an unveiling ceremony for a monument to Tsar Alexander I near the Moscow Kremlin's Borovitsky Gate on Thursday.
The statue, which stands in the Alexander Gardens, was commissioned to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Alexander's troops marching into Paris following their triumph over Napolean's Grand Armée's attempt to invade Russia in 1812, known in Russia as the Patriotic War of 1812. Assisted by Prussian and Austrian forces, the capture of Paris led to Napolean's abdication in the Treaty of Fontainebleau in April of 1814.
During his speech, Putin spoke of how winning the war became a worldwide triumph of Russia.
Also present at the unveiling ceremony were Moscow Mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky and Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, who blessed the statue. The monument was designed by renown sculptor Salavat Shcherbakov, who is a recognised People’s Artist of Russia.

Saint Vladimir's Statue Unveiled By Putin In Russia...
???? MUZEON PARK of Arts, Fallen Monument Park, COMMUNIST Statues (Budget Travel Russia){Moscow RUSSIA}
Budget Travel Russia #17
Muzeon Park of Arts, or Fallen Monument Park, contains hundreds of symbols and sculptures, many of which were created during the Soviet era glorifying the leaders of the USSR. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, these icons were decommissioned and then later displayed for public view in the park.
Matt passes through Muzeon for an overview of the art, including the Communist statues of Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin and the hammer and sickle, all the while observing Moscovites relaxing and at play in the comfort of a decent autumn afternoon.

Lenin watches on over increasingly indifferent Russians
To reach the gigantic statue of Vladimir Lenin that overlooks Moscow's October Square, pedestrians can stroll down streets named after the Bolshevik revolutionary's wife or mother, or cross Lenin Avenue that intersects with a road named after his brother. More than a quarter of a century has passed since the fall of Communism but reminders of the Soviet Union's founding father Lenin -- who died on January 21, 1924 -- are still easy to find.

Siberian city erects Minecraft-style Lenin monument
Siberian city erects Minecraft-style Lenin monument
A monument of former Russian communist leader Vladimir Lenin in the style of the Minecraft video game has been erected in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk.
The pixelated cardboard statue was unveiled last week as part of an art project and stands on top of a platform at the entrance to the Krasnoyarsk Museum Center, which was named after Lenin until the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991.
It depicts the Soviet founder, dressed in a black suit and red tie, striking his signature pose of an outstretched arm pointing into the distance.
The creator of the Minecraft Lenin, local artist Aleksandr Zakirov, told Russian media that the monument was meant as a tribute to Lenin’s “visual image”.
He added that he expects it to disappear within a month, as the cardboard structure gets softened by the snow.
Images shared on social media showed people rushing to snap photos of the Russian revolutionary, and posing alongside him.
However, not everyone has embraced the statue.
The leader of Krasnoyarsk’s Communist Party told Govorit Moskva radio station he would demolish the monument, describing it as a mockery of the mastermind of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution.
“This, of course, is a nightmare,” Pyotr Medvedev said. “It’s blasphemy.”
Lenin served as head of government of Soviet Russia between 1917 and 1924, and of the Soviet Union from 1922 to 1924.
Under his administration, the Soviet Union became a one-party communist state.
