Full Ride (Non-stop from Kingsmere) on Moors Valley Railway in Ashley Heath, Ringwood
As today was an off-peak day, Lakeside station was closed therefore trains only served Kingsmere.
This has got to be one of my most favourite railways I've ever been on, I've known Moors Valley Country Park for my entire life since I would visit here as a child when staying on holiday in The New Forest and going on the Tree Tops Trail (adventure trail with themed play equipment on route including the Tree Top Walk which is a raised walkway of which goes from Ringwood Forest (where this country park is located) and from coming here to go on the cycle paths with my Dad along with enjoying a picnic and then a ride on the railway.
This railway has a huge amount of locomotives and rolling stock including a diesel locomotive which was scheduled to be running today but unfortunately the transmission was having problems (found out after talking to the driver of this train).
Today the train was pulled by the steam locomotive 'Jason' which has had a major rebuild including a re-paint into Southern Railway green. The train itself was formed if of a brown luggage coach at the front & 5 green passenger coaches.
Moors Valley - Through the Forest Full Lap - May 2017
Word to the wise, turn the Volume DOWN as the rattling cables onto the camera casing makes an annoying noise.
Full Lap ride of the Through the Forest Blue Route Loop at Moors Valley. Under Bar mounted POV. More Details Below.
Moors Valley is just outside of Ringwood Hampshire and right on the Dorset/Hampshire border. It's a forestry area, pretty flat really but with an enjoyable Blue Route called Through the Forest. It's not a particularly demanding trail hence why it's a blue route, but you can make it challenging by riding at speed.
This was taken in May 2017 riding at Midday on a Wednesday so fairly quiet about but during the weekends and school holidays it can get pretty busy with families riding it.
Overall I thoroughly enjoy riding this trail and would recommend if you're in the area then give it a try. Plus do a little more exploring as there are a few funky sections, including a jump/pump spot over towards the far right corner near the Ringwood to Verwood road.
Taken using a GoPro Hero 3 Black mounted under the bars with a K Edge mount. Bike used is a Scott Scale 7 series.
The Trip To the New Forest
My Holiday Trip to the New Forest
2x full days, with a little bit of travelling either side.
The holiday home is called Dolly Blue, and is found at Lowlands, new Ringwood. I highly recommend if you can get a booking here, do it. For one or two people, this little place is the perfect getaway.
Some notable excellent things to do or places to see in this video include the pubs The Red Shoot Inn, The Royal Oak, the various cycle routes and tracks around the forest, and the area of Hyde, where you will find most the the New Forest donkey population (it would seem). Also see Fordingbridge, a lovely little town with plenty of handy shops, souvenirs and pubs and cafes.
One tip for anyone visiting the New Forest though - just drive. Go Slow, Don't use sat nav, and just drive. Along many of the roads passing through the area you will find numerous car parks, which lead onto walking routes and cycle paths, all within open heathland with wild horses, donkeys and more.

Wiggle New Forest 100
Much like the Wiggle New Forest Spring sportive, which runs earlier in the year, this event also takes pride in being a ‘must do’ on many cyclists’ tick lists. As a result, this has also sold out long before the day on each of the years it has run, so book now to avoid disappointment.
Taking in different parts of the Forest to its sportive brother, the New Forest 100 will show you around stunningly beautiful parts of the National Park and beyond as autumn begins to unfold. A 20mph limit on most roads and a distinct lack of traffic make this a quiet and scenery-focused event to savour – with the added bonus of its 100-mile length for those that choose to ride it.
You’ll start your ride by crossing the River Avon and soon head into the pretty New Forest village of Ringwood. Threading through country lanes on the outskirts of the Park, you’ll soon head into the Forest itself and through the small communes of Linwood and Fritham before long – where stray ponies and other cyclists will likely be your only company on the road.
Once the village of Wick is reached, Epic riders will head off for a long loop along the sheltered back lanes east of Salisbury, taking in attractive scenery in such areas as Farley, West Winterslow and West Dean. Before long it’s time to rejoin the main route as you’ll skip back to the other side of the River Avon and head through Cranborne, Verwood and Three Legged Cross on the way back to the finish line.
Short and punchy climbs will be a joy for most riders but the route remains a challenging and rewarding sportive. Join thousands of other riders by signing up for your place now.
Somerley House and Gardens are not usually open to the public; however as an added bonus, riders of the Wiggle New Forest Spring Sportive and supporters will have the chance to view some of the State rooms within the House and access to the Gardens on the event day.
