Cape Town-The Mother City
2nd Installment of my GoPro videos. Jenna and I headed up to Cape Town to explore 1 of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World, and visit friends while back in South Africa. Filmed on my GoPro Hero 4 Silver and edited by me.
Kloof Corner, Cape Town, South Africa
Kloof Corner is the most spectacular hike up the front of Table Mountain. It's even better with good friends, a beautiful sunset and warm weather.

South Africa - Amazing CAPE TOWN! (1080p HD) | Magda T
Here is another video from our trip to South Africa and this time is The Mother City - Cape Town!
The city is probably one of the most beautiful places in the world we have visited so far. The best way to get around is by Uber and the food is simply outstanding and so cheap when compared to London or Hong Kong.
When it comes to fun and entertainment, Cape Town is the mother of all cities, and there’s no such thing as a dull moment when you’re there. There are truly amazing and breath-taking sights to see. Here are a few that we got a chance to visit.
• CLIFTON 0:58
Exclusive residential area with the most expensive real estate in South Africa. The main attractions are secluded beaches but be warned the water is absolutely freezing!
• VICTORIA & ALFRED WATERFRONT 1:37
The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in the historic heart of Cape Town's working harbour is South Africa's most-visited destination, having the highest rate of foreign tourists of any attraction in the country. It offers a variety of shopping, restaurants and entertainment options for visitors.
• BO-KAAP 1:49
A little gem in Cape Town, which attracts many tourists who are trying to snap a picture of its brightly painted houses and cobbled streets.
• TABLE MOUNTAIN 2:17
Table Mountain is one of the official New Seven Wonders of Nature. You can get to the top of Cape Town’s most famous icon either by the cable car or hike. We hiked up there and took the aerial cableway down – experience not to be missed. From the top of Table Mountain, there are magnificent views of the Cape Town city centre, surrounding suburbs and the Atlantic Ocean. Landmarks in view include Cape Town Stadium, Robben Island and Camps Bay beach. And if you are lucky you can spot a Cape Dassie or two. (FYI - it's a rock badger)
• CAMPS BAY 4:22
With fine white sand beach and amazing views of the Twelve Apostles mountains the area draws crowds of tourist as well as locals. Behind the beach there many restaurants, cafes and cocktail bars overlooking the promenade.
My recommendation for food in the area is a seafood restaurant called ‘Codfather’ – you will need to make a reservation in advance though -
• KIRSTENBOSCH NATIONAL BOTANICAL GARDENS 4:58
Kirstenbosch is the name of the famous botanical garden nestled at the foot of Table Mountain. There is a variety of plant life to see, and trails that lead off into the mountain slopes.
If relaxation and taking in the nature is more your thing, then a picnic basket and blanket is another option. Plus in the summer months concerts are held in this beautiful setting. Don’t miss the CentenaryTree Canopy Walkway!
• LION’S HEAD 6:08
It’s an amazing hike, relatively easy (if you aren’t afraid of heights) and not too long, and the view from the top is breath-taking. You can also experience paragliding which looked like so much fun!
• CHAPMAN’S PEAK DRIVE 7:26
Chapman’s Peak Drive is regarded as one of the world’s most scenic road trips, running 5.5 miles between Hout Bay and Noordhoek on Cape Town's western coast. With mountains rising up on one side and the Atlantic Ocean crashing below on the other, there is an incredible view at every curve—all 114 of them!
• BOULDERS BEACH 7:36
This sheltered beach is located in the Cape Peninsula. It is a popular attraction because of a colony of African Penguins (called Jackass Penguins) that settled there in 1982. These penguins can be observed at close range, and is definitely an experience to take back home. It is situated close to Simon’s Town and you can take a bus from Cape Town to get there or drive if you have a car.
• CAPE POINT 8:32
At the tip of the Cape Peninsula 60 km south-west of Cape Town, lies Cape Point, a nature reserve within the Table Mountain National Park - a declared Natural World Heritage Site. We drove there after visiting the Boulders Beach - beautiful coastline - you will not be let down!
• THE WINELANDS
A trip to these spectacular winelands is a must. I have posted another video about exploring the wine estates of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek -

Hiking Table Mountain is a rite of passage for visitors to Cape Town. The iconic behemoth defines the ‘Mother City’ in the same way Rio has a harbour, New York has a statue and San Francisco has a bridge.

Table Mountain Aerial Cableway in Cape Town Central, South Africa
Table Mountain Aerial Cableway in Cape Town Central, South Africa
A visit to Cape Town would be incomplete without a trip up the famous Table Mountain which reaches a height of 1085 m at its highest point and had a broad flat surface allowing it to appear as a 'table' from certain angles, inspiring its name.
The glorious views over the Mother City starts the minute you step into the state of the art cableway (one of only three in the world). The floor of the 65 passenger cablecar rotates 360 degrees on the ascent/descent which takes 5-10 minutes to reach the summit/base travelling at a speed of up to 10m per second. Undeniably the best views over the Cape are to be taken in from this natural landmark mountain which allows all parts of Cape Town to be seen at once in all magnificence.
The mountain itself serves as a nature reserve home to many indigenous plants and animals. On the top there are a selection of viewpoints over the peninsula and the paths suitable for all ranges of the explorer from the handicapped to the avid hiker, maps are available on site. There is a curio shop and full cafe for refreshments and meals on the top. The weather can change without notice so be sure to have sunscreen and hats as well as warm clothing and of course remember to take your camera.
The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway is a cable car transportation system offering visitors a five-minute ride to the top of Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa. It is one of Cape Town's most popular tourist attractions with approximately 900,000 people a year using the Cableway. In February 2016, the Cableway welcomed its 25 millionth visitor.
The upper cable station is on the westernmost end of the Table Mountain plateau, at an elevation of 1,067 metres. The upper cable station offers views over Cape Town, Table Bay and Robben Island to the north, and the Atlantic seaboard to the west and south. Amenities at the upper station include free guided walking tours, an audio tour, meal options at a café and a wi-fi lounge.
The Rotair cableway was installed by Garaventa (Doppelmayr Garaventa Group) from Switzerland in 1997, the design being based on the Titlis Rotair cableway in Engelberg, Switzerland. Each car carries 65 passengers (compared to 25 for the old cars), and runs on a double cable making them more stable in high winds, giving a faster journey of 4–5 minutes to the summit. The floors of the cars rotate through 360 degrees during the ascent or descent, giving passengers a panoramic view.

Table Mountain Hike & City Tour | Things to do in Cape Town
More info here:
Hiking Table Mountain is the best way (well atleast we think so) to get to know the Mother City intimately! The walk begins at the upper cable station and traverses the entire front table to Maclears Beacon (the highest point 1087m). The walk returns via a different route providing a variety of vistas. The entire walk takes about 2 hours. Note: If the cable car is not operational on the day, and depending on clients’ fitness levels, the walk would be adapted accordingly. After lunch (to own account), explore the history, architecture and culture which makes Cape Town the colourful and vibrant city it is today. Visit the Malay Quarter, Company Gardens, The SA Museum and the Castle of Good Hope.

Skydiving, Table Mountain, & the REAL South Africa 2019: CIEE Vlog 3
The last two weeks have been jam packed, and so this VLOG is a rollercoaster! Skydiving was definitely the peak, but so was climbing up and across Table Mountain with some amazing people, seeing Nelson Mandela's cell at Robben Island, visiting local museums, and spending time at Clifton Beach!
For a REAL dose of REALITY though, we had the opportunity to protest in solidarity with UCT students and women from all around South Africa, urging the Government for stronger protection against gender based violence after the rape and murder of UCT student, Uyinenene Mrwetyana ❤️
