Mount Glorious Queensland 2019
Welcome to Mt Glorious, a truly magical little village in the heart of some absolutely breathtaking rainforest situated in the D'Aguilar Range north-west of Brisbane City. The main National Park area is Maiala that means 'quiet place' in the dialect of the original aboriginal Kamilaroi people who were the earliest know settlers to the region.
Most visitors are surprised to find the stands of native rainforest so close to Brisbane; tall trees with huge buttresses, palms and ferns as well as the ever-present array of tropical birds and parrots; quite an unbelievable place!
The regular motorcyclists all know the wonder of the fantastic roadside splendour of towering rainforest trees, the accompanying mist and cooler crisp climate.
Mount Glorious is a beautiful natural hilltop that offers four small cafes, some spectacular forest walks as well as several BBQ areas set in rolling parkland. Quite a remarkable destination that is only 45 minutes from the Brisbane CBD!
Once you have visited you may just want to stay a little bit longer there are some wonderful B&B's on the mountain.
You'll find it all up here in the hills behind Brisbane at Mount Glorious; a lovely twisty drive from Samford or The Gap.

Cycling up Mount Glorious with a Mt Nebo descent, one of the best climbs in Brisbane
A few weeks ago I rode Mt Nebo and Mt Glorious out and back from The Gap. It's a fair climb with some good views and a great descent just North West of Brisbane.
Climbing from The Gap, direct to Mt Glorious via Mt Nebo for 30.5 km at an average of 2% with undulations and pinches of above 20% closer to the top it is challenging. However, there are numerous points to stop and check out the view while you catch your breath.

The Westridge Outlook, Mount Glorious 2019
The Westridge Outlook, Mount Glorious 2019
By Mary Mageau · · From My Back Roads
A small rural village in Queensland’s Samford Valley marks the site of our home. Here on Australia’s east coast, surrounded by two state forests and four rugged mountains, we enjoy exploring ways to engage with the beauty of our natural surroundings.
One favourite destination is Mount Glorious. It rises to a height of 600 metres above sea level. In the oppressive heat of our high summer, we often head to its crest and cooler temperature, where we spend a comfortable day. Driving through the mountain’s splendid scenery we are always amazed at its abundance of native rain forest cover—mighty trees, tall palms, and numerous ferns. Flocks of tropical birds, white cockatoos, and brilliant parrots fill the skies.
On a recent visit, a signpost entitled, The Westridge Outlook, caught our eye. Exiting into a dirt road we followed this to a car park. Here a wide boardwalk, enclosed by a fence of metal railings stretched ahead. This walkway was built to encircle an immense rocky outcrop.
Strolling along we admired a mixed forest of grey gums, spotted gums and tall tallowwoods. Long ago these original timber forests were harvested by timber cutters using only axes and cross-cut saws. The fallen trees were loaded onto wooden carts and pulled by a team of oxen to the nearest sawmill. Thankfully this deforestation ceased, and today its remains are protected as a reserve for public enjoyment.
Reaching the half-way mark, the boardwalk expanded into a large viewing area, to expose an open outlook. The rims of distant mountain ranges, shrouded in a blue haze, framed the horizon. We stood in awe at the view of Lake Wivenhoe, our main dam and water catchment area. The upper reaches of the Brisbane River snaked through the landscape, as the D’Aguilar State Forest spread its abundant natural beauty beneath us. It was a breathtaking sight.
We walked further around the ancient rocky escarpment, to end at the point of our beginning. Hopefully, other visitors will also discover this hidden treasure and the magnificent views on offer at the Westridge Outlook.
Beautiful Rainforest on Brisbane City's Doorstep”

It takes just half an hour to drive from Ashgrove to Mount Glorious – a natural hilltop that is part of the D’Aguilar Range and sits on the national park called Maiala.
Maiala means ‘quiet place’ (derived from the Aboriginal Kamilaroi people, who were the earliest known settlers to the region), and it certainly is a quiet and special place.
The Westridge Outlook is my favourite lookout at Mount Glorious. It has views over Lake Wivenhoe and the Great Dividing Range and is home to a forest of eucalyptus trees, grey gums, tallowwoods and spotted gums. And as you can see from the photos, it’s beautiful.
Besides gorgeous nature, Mount Glorious (and neighbouring Mount Nebo) offers a few other lookouts and parks (including the popular Jolly’s Lookout), a range of cafes, and a winery – Brisbane’s Vineyard.
