Finally some good weather in Wellington, it's been winter for the past couple of months and we haven't had any days over 20 degrees... rest of the country has been having a stunner of a summer - South East winds, 10-20kmp/h today easy to fly in, and a spectacular sunset.

From Mt Kaukau in Wellington you can literally see 360 degrees in all directions towards mountains, the ocean, suburbs. The play of light on top of the mountain is sublime especially in the evening or early morning.

I just love reggae and NZ is the land of roots reggae and dancehall music, it seemed very appropriate to use this kind of uplifting music given the recent events in Christchurch. This video about majestic Mt Kaukau in Wellington is a great reminder of why New Zealand is a special and beautiful country.

Mount Kaukau is in Wellington, New Zealand on the western side of Wellington harbour near Johnsonville and Khandallah. The summit is 445 metres above sea level and is the most visible high point in the Wellington landscape further accentuated by Wellington's main television transmitter tower the Kordia TV transmitter mast, which stands a little over 100m tall. There is also a compass pedestal placed at the top. Spectacular views of the city, harbour and the Rimutaka and Tararua Ranges can be experienced from the summit. On a clear day Mt. Tapuaeoenuku and the Bryant Range in the South Island may be seen, whilst northwest is the Porirua Basin and the broad expanse of the Tasman Sea.

I really enjoy the cattle I often see around Mt Kaukau. I can never get close enough to pat them, for they are shy ... but they are also very curious.

Skyline Walkway - Wellington, New Zealand | Hiking the Windiest Trail
The Skyline Walkway is a ridge-line trail on the outskirts of New Zealand's capital city, Wellington. It is very exposed and was extremely windy when my sister and I hiked it. The views are spectacular. We could see the suburbs of Johnsonville, Khandallah, Ngaio, Wilton and Karori. In the distance we could see rolling hills, wind turbines and across Cook Strait, even see the Kaikoura Ranges of the South Island.
Along the trail we encountered sheep, rabbits and cows. We began the hike at Old Coach Road, climbed up to Mount Kaukau and followed the ridge-line past Johnson Hill, finishing at Makara Peak.

Truly INSPIRING Views in New Zealand - Mount Kaukau
My first proper hike in New Zealand - Mount Kaukau in the Wellington area. It was so windy that half of the shots with me narrating couldn't be used, I lost my hat :D and the remaining footage was quite shaky. Nevertheless this was an absolutely pleasure and I can't wait to get back up there.

Me and my uncle's family decided to go trekking to Mt. Kaukau, which ended up with us doing jump shots on the top, with Wellington and the bay as our background.
