Mount Taranaki Summit Route: Alpine Tramping (Hiking) Series | New Zealand
One of the most challenging tracks in the Egmont National Park, the summit route takes you high above the clouds for a truly breath-taking view. The Taranaki Summit Route climbs 6.3km up the northern ridge of Mt Taranaki. While this might appear to be a simple day walk, this is definitely NOT the case. In this video, we take you through the required preparations and explore some of the alpine hazards along the way, so you can prepare for the climb ahead and make it home safely.

Did the Tahurangi Translator Tower Trek on Mount Taranaki. Although it was a beautiful day, clouds covered the top of the mountain so I still haven't seen the top. Next time Taranaki, Next time.

It’s Day 54 of New Zealand’s Biggest Gap Year where we’re doing 365 days: 365 activities! Today’s activity is walking the Enchanted Track in Egmont National Park on the slopes of Mt Taranaki!
We drive from Stratford to the forests surrounding the lower slopes of Mt Taranaki, covered in winding dense forests that look like something from a fairy tale. We find out soon enough why they call the walk we go on the Enchanted Track.
The Enchanted Track in Egmont National Park goes through the beautiful forests in a loop joining to other tracks along the way. We are amazed by this awesome wilderness environment right here in the Egmont National Park.
It’s back to the Stratford Holiday Park after doing the Enchated Track of Egmont National Park.

Enjoying some gorgeous hikes in and around Egmont National park. We took the basic trek from the car park up to what would be the ski lodge in the winter. This was my first fairly big hike since my achilles surgery this summer. We also enjoyed some hikes in lower elevations checking out Dawson Falls and a long footbridge.
On a different full day, we enjoyed the sea version of Taranaki, driving the full length of the coastal highway from New Plymouth, to Cape Egmonth Lighthouse, local beaches, and through some historic small towns before returning to New Plymouth. This is surely one hell of a unique and picturesque region of New Zealand and should not be missed. :)

The Circle Visible From Space
Mount Taranaki, on the North Island of New Zealand, is a large-scale circle that's visible from space: a stratovolcano with six miles of forest around it. But that didn't happen naturally. Oh, and there's a good chance that, in the next fifty years or so, it might explode.
