Climb Mount Warning - Virtually!
World Heritage listed Mount Warning (Wollumbin), situated in far north-eastern New South Wales in the Tweed Valley, is one of Australia's most biodiverse regions.
Wollumbin is so unique that it supports an ecosystem unto its own - no other forest of its kind exists anywhere in the world. It is the last refuge of ancient rainforest from a time when Australia was part of the pre-historic super-continent, Gondwanaland. Wollumbin is a sacred place of great significance to the people of the Bundjalung Nation. It is a traditional place of cultural law, initiation and spiritual education. Out of respect for their law and culture, the
Bundjalung ask that you consider choosing not to climb Wollumbin.
This Virtual Walkabout of Wollumbin may serve to reduce the number of people who choose to actually impose themselves upon the mountain and its fragile ecosystem. Wollumbin has been identified as having high erosion hazards for both top soil and sub soil structures.

Mount Warning Lookout Timelapse - NSW - Australia
Mount Warning (Aboriginal: Wollumbin), is a mountain in the Tweed Range in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia, was formed from a volcanic plug of the now-gone Tweed Volcano. The mountain is located 14 kilometres west-south-west of Murwillumbah, near the border between New South Wales and Queensland. Due to Mount Warning's proximity to Cape Byron, the Australian continent's easternmost point, it is the first place on mainland Australia to receive the sun's rays each day.
Mount Warning is the central volcanic remnant of an ancient shield volcano, the Tweed Volcano, which would have been about 1,900 m (6,200 ft) above sea level or just under twice the height of the current mountain. This volcano erupted around 23 million years ago. As the mountain's central vent cooled it shrank, forming a depression at the top that has greatly eroded.
Today the vast areas that were part of the volcano include many mountains and ranges at some distance from Mount Warning, and include the Border Ranges, Tamborine Mountain, the McPherson Range and both the Lamington Plateau and Springbrook Plateaus. The erosion caldera formed since this eruption is easily visible around the summit and forms the rim of the Tweed Valley.
During the last stages of eruption, different and more resistant forms of lava that were cooler than those flows that created the shield volcano remained to form the current peak. The whole central Mount Warning massif was also pushed up by forces that remained active after lava eruptions had stopped.

Mt. Warning, NSW, Australia
We climbed Mt. Warning, the Eastern-most mountain in Australia. It was an overcast but hot day and we were literally hiking among the clouds, but at the top we still got to enjoy a view.
The top of Mt. Warning is actually the point of Australia that is first touched by the sun every morning. Byron Bay, the Eastern-most point of the country, can be seen from the top, but due to the height difference the sun reaches Mt. Warning before Byron Bay.
Gold Coast, the popular tourist destination, is located near the mountain.

A spectacular day to climb Mt Warning in NSW Australia. A tough climb particularly the last 100m from the summit. But well worth the effort.
