Book Store Vlog and Best Coffee Alternative in Victoria B.C. - Vlog101
For show notes click on the link above
This week I am going to take you to my favourite bookstore and my favourite cafe in Victoria BC. As a non-coffee drinker I am looking for fabulous coffee alternatives when I go to a cafe as well as a comfortable sit down experience. As for bookstores, I do own a kindle, so I am also looking for an incredible in-store experience as well as books that work better in a hard-copy format than in electric format. I do feel that many yoga books as well as poetry books (which I love) and cookbooks fit that bill.
My favourite bookstore in Victoria BC is Munro’s books. The in store experience is incredible. It is an old heritage building with lots of character. You can hear the wood floor creak when you talk on it. The shelves are made of wood and the ceilings are high. The bookstore was originally owned by Alice Munro, yes the author Alice Munro. Alice Munro is a critically acclaimed Canadian short-story writer who won the Man Booker International Prize in 2009 and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2013. In 2014 the Alice and her husband Jim retired and turned ownership of the store over to 4 longtime staff members.
My favourite place to go for a coffee alternative with friends in Victoria is Nourish. Most people know nourish for it’s seasonal, organic, vegan, dairy free and farm to table delicious food. But did you know they have a cafe too? For those of us locals looking for a place to have a delicious healthy coffee alternative Nourish is my place of choice. I love the lounge upstairs for hanging out with friends over a cup of bone broth, matcha, tumeric latte, chai latte, dandy blend latte, or london fog. There are so many choices. In the summer you can sit on their outdoor patio under umbrellas.

24 Hours in Victoria, British Columbia. High Tea at the Empress.
We took a quick ferry to Victoria from Washington for a short getaway. We very much enjoyed this beautiful city. We tried seafood at a local restaurant, admired the architecture, got lost in Munro's Books and capped the experience by having high tea at the iconic Empress.
Thanks for the music:

Ruby Princess Cruise - Victoria BC - September 2018 - 3 Princess Ships
The last port on the Ruby Princess Pacific Northwest Cruise in September 2018 is Victoria, BC. On this day, there were 3 Princess Cruises ships, with the Grand Princess and the Star Princess also being in port. Also, both the European and the Norwegian Bliss has port visits. It was a really busy day for ships in Victoria.
The shuttle ticket to downtown from the ship was $12.95 US when pre-purchased from shore excursions, and $13 US in cash at the bus. Although you can get off at the beautiful Fairmont Empress hotel, the other drop off (and where you get the return) is up the street at Government & Fort, across from the Bay Centre (where the Hudson’s Bay department is located).
Also nearby is Munro’s Books, founded by Jim Munro, who when was married to Alice Munro (they subsequently divorced) when the store opened. Alice Munro went in to win a Nobel Prize in Literature.
A visit to Canada would not be complete without visiting Tims Hortons for a coffee and donuts, or in my case, Timbits (similar to Dunkin Donuts munchkins).

Ride Along to the San Juans
A ride-along flight in a beautifully refurbished 1968 Kenmore Air de Havilland DHC-2 Mark 3 Turbine Beaver floatplane to Friday Harbor at San Juan Island and Rosario on Orcas Island. Watch the arrival of the Kenmore Air fleet at the Seattle Lake Union base, depart north up the Puget Sound and enjoy great scenery flying between island ridges at about 500 feet MSL. Not anything like a normal airline flight.

It is the one year anniversary of this vlog. To celebrate we decided to show you around some of our favourite things to do in the city we live, Victoria B.C. I started the vlog in the Inner Harbour. You will see a busker behind me on the busker stage doing some juggling. There are always lots of artists sharing their talents in Victoria :)
The first thing we did was go to Oak Bay Marina to feed the seals. The end of January on a Tuesday afternoon is a good time to feed them. They are good and ready for some frozen herring then!
We did a little mailtime. Thanks Nicci for your care package for Dressember. The other thing that came was a hard drive. We need a lot of hard drive space to backup our videos. We received a 6 terabyte hard drive. Thank you for your donations, they help us to back up our videos. During mailtime there were a family of otters.
I love going shopping on Lower Johnson street in Victoria and supporting the local shops. I also love Davids Tea. Government street is also a great place to go shopping. We recommend Murchies and Munros on Government Street. Rogers chocolates is great for samples. We love Rocky Mountain chocolate factory for the chocolate apples. We always get them for birthday gift. Today we got one for Trinity’s fifteenth birthday.
Trounce Alley is another great little alley to check out off of Government street. There is a store down that alley that just sells buttons. Instinct art and gifts is where we get our incense. When you come through Trounce Alley, you come to Broad street and I show you The Vitamin Shop and that is where I buy my vitamins.
On Friday morning we went for a hike. My number one reason for moving to the West coast was the hiking. Our tactic for finding a place to hike was to drive past Langford, looked for cars parked on the side of the road and walked into the woods. The ground was so lush in the forest.
Annemarie asked me what my biggest fear was, how I overcame it and how it transformed it. I thought it was a good question. I answer this question in the vlog at around 13 mins.
Saturday morning we went to some of our favourite bakeries in Victoria. This was a unanimous vote when we asked you what you wanted us to do!
I think Crust Bakery is one of the most irresistible bakeries in Victoria B.C.
Next up was Fol Epi. This bakery is stunning!
My favourite bakery is Origins Gluten Free Bakery. This bakery has a wide assortment of gluten free options. I love their pastry.
Thank you for watching our vlog over the past year. We appreciate your support. Give this video a thumbs up if you liked it. Subscribe.
